How the Hell do you cope ???
I'm only on day 4 and I'm climbing the sodding walls
WiFi is non-existent and so is mobile internet most of the time
I feel much worse than before they dragged me in Sad
I struggle really badly with people so am more or less sat in my room all day - which of course the drs don't like Sad
I just want to go home Xmas Sad

It is crap isn't it.

This is what helped me so I hope it helps you!

  • 3g dongle so I could go on the internet
  • colouring in books and pens/pencils
  • finding staff/patients who would play Scrabble or Monopoly with me
  • films/music on my laptop
  • painting my finger nails and toe nails
  • smoking (i know i know but it did help)
  • cross stitch

Are you on a section?

(((( FreezingFingers ))))

It takes some getting through.

Even if you don't smoke, going outside with them can help to break things up, and people tend to talk because the staff aren't there.

Have they changed your meds?

It is hard. Boring. Nothing to do all day. Not like it is on the movies that is to be sure! I read and slept and got out as soon as possible!! Can you have time off the ward. I was able to for a few hours a day, just went for a coffee and a magazine etc!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions - they are very helpful
Section 2 following a bit of a police chase & a 136 Blush so I wasn't prepared & didn't have the chance to pack or bring anything useful
My boys brought some stuff yesterday but you could tell it was packed by men - bless 'em Grin
They want me to come out & mix but I really just can't do it - I see people & wanna run as fast as possible in the opposite direction
I might get my laptop brought in - you have to get the staff to do the charging tho cos they won't let you have the chargers in your room
I can't concentrate long enough to read but colouring sounds a good idea & cross-stitch - if they'll let me
No change in meds - took them 3 days to get hold of thyroxine & escitalopram so I had none !
Oh I lie - they've changed my quetiapine to the slow release one
Dr says it shouldn't be the full 28 days so I'm sure it'll be before Christmas Xmas Smile
Hugs Juney & to everyone who replied Thanks

I know its boring, had an hour out with my husband today but back to the same old thing now. It's annoying me having to ask for my phone to be charged. Played some scrabble but same as you ive no concentration to read or watch tv for any longer than a couple of mins. Xx

Def get your laptop brought in, I used to time it so I used it for an hour or so and as it charged I would sit in a communal area and watch TV etc.

I sympathise on having things brought in, I used to draw pictures and write incredibly detailed descriptions of the clothes I wanted.

Hopefully you will get home soon :)

Is there any therapy available (art or group or anything?) When I was in MH hospital I only really started getting better when I forced myself to start taking part. Incredibly incredibly hard (trust me I know!!!!) but the mantra was "doing better leads to feeling better". Plus i made some amazing friends eventually who, several years on, are still there for me and understand when other people don't. Big hugs to you Thanks

Hope you're hanging in there Juney
It's been so much better since I got my laptop & jigsaw, colouring & puzzle books - even managed to sneak the charger into my room & I can charge my phone via the laptop Wink
Got my review meeting on Friday so fingers crossed I'll be going home - I'm 99% sure I will but my consultant doesn't give anything away so we not to give me false hope
I"m in a dilemma whether to say the right things to get home or risk being kept in by telling the truth
Hope everyone else is well
I can't read much cos the internet signal here is so bad - takes 20mins to load 1 page Angry

I've survived it
Hopefully going home today Grin
Section has been discharged & I've been voluntary over the weekend (apparently) although whenever I tried to leave I was told no & threatened with a 5.4 (whatever that means) Hmm
Bit scared about going home now if I'm honest ..... I feel safe in here even though I'm desperate to go home Confused

Freezing, a 5-4 is known as nurses holding powers. Just means that if you try to leave and they don't think you're safe to do so, they can keep you in hospital for up to 6 hours until they can round up a consultant to assess you. Very rarely used in my experience. Good luck with your journey to recovery, glad to see it's well underway.

FreezingFingers · 07/01/2014 18:08

Thanks everyone
Discharge is planned for tomorrow Grin
Don't really feel any different to when I was admitted but they've finally agreed that locking me up in here isn't going to help
Hope everyone else is doing well
xx
