Right you lot - a thread to see if exercise can help us. Who's in?

I'm off out for a run. And i'm going to go out for 30 mins minimum EVERY DAY. Who is going to buddy up and check I've done it?

If there is even a chance it can get me out of this fucking weird and awful hole I've sunk into then it's worth a shot.

Anyone else?

mouses please don't feel you have to go. Tell us if you've managed any pilates - its v good isn't it - I was actually prescribed a six week course after suffering from back pain when ds was little - and it sorted it completely.

Welcome colouringinqueen! Yay! Do you find that it does help boost you?

Mouses. I do know the feeling. It's horrendous. But you can't give up the fight. At least when we're fighting it's a shred of hope. Even if the whole day is a blur or varying levels of anxiety and depression that one moment where you think 'come on! I can do this' makes it worth it.

Mind if i join, ladies? This thread's a great idea! My goal will be to do 30 mins swimming or exercise bike 5 days out of 7. And i have no excuse as i have gym membership and the gym is approx 5 minutes from my house!

I tried kettlebells last week but have done my back in so no weights for this wimp for a while!

Thanks striped Yes it does give me a boost plus a sense of achievement. But finding the motivation has only been a recent thing after six months recovering from depression. Keep reading about the shred but after feeling knackered after only the first aerobics session of my elle dvd I think I need to get my fitness levels up first!

Stripedmum Sun 21-Jul-13 08:30:21

Well! My back is feeling a lot better this morning...maybe the yoga? I'm going to get our for a good brisk walk with the pram today as we're having friends around tonight.

Welcome Estelle!

Your fitness levels will go up quickly Colouring smile

What 30 mins is everyone doing today?

Thanks striped and yoga is v good for backs. ..

Sunday is usually my day off unless a family activity planned. Visiting dh Bro so will see if any energy when we get back - poss bit of yoga. Really tired this morn - only just got up, but feeling better for lie in.

Enjoy your walk.

Morning. Mouses, please stay.

I did Shred this morning and off to park later. No chance for formal exercise now till weds though. Will report back then!

Yippee! Feeling rather smug. DH home from work early so have been out for a run. 5.5k. Yay! Mood lifted. Have felt generally well today but did have a very strange two hour dip where I thought I'd lost my mind. Very muddled, scary thinking. Does anyone else get this?

Well done striped! Glad you felt the benefit. I can have peaks and troughs in a day too. Have you any idea if anything triggered it? It's very unsettling. Did you manage to get yourself out of it or did it just fade?

Well I managed a game of croquet but I'm not sure that counts wink

Am meeting a friend and her toddler at a local wood tomorrow for a stroll. I think I will try and get there early and get a brisk 20 mins in first.

Stripedmum Mon 22-Jul-13 16:07:33

Right you lot (I daren't say ladies after a thread was started about it saying MNetters disliked it!). Who's up to what today?

Stripedmum Mon 22-Jul-13 18:08:31

5k done! Found it tough as I'm a t1 diabetic and my sugars were plummeting when I was out which makes me panic so it can feel counterproductive. But it's done!

I did a one mile walk, good pace, then ended up doing a couple more pushing a buggy so a good session this morning. Fortunately it was in the forest. ..

Stripedmum Mon 22-Jul-13 18:44:03

Good lass! How are you today?

Good thanks. I am really benefitting from the sun and trying not to get too sad when I look at weather forecast changing just in time for DCs school hol angry

How about you?

Stripedmum Mon 22-Jul-13 19:06:36

Medium thanks. Panicky and strange but determined to crack this.

Hi OP, sorry I've been away..well done for getting some quality workouts done this weekend. You did much better than me, I failed to do any, just running around with domestics and mum's taxi service. How is your back? I find yoga really useful to stretch out in the days after a really big workout, plus you are benefiting from the strength, flexibility and balance components. If you are interested I can recommend a really go (and cheap) app which can direct you though a series a great classes.

I did get out today...I managed 30min of yoga, 40 min spinning and 30min body weight strength training. Feeling good, proud of myself and very positive.

As for the 30min of CV required to lift mood, I am going to look into the research and see what the evidence is. My personal experience makes me think the 30 min is about the minimum I would do to feel a lift in mood, but I will get a lift from any form of exercise.

Looking forward to tomorrow and hearing how everyone has done and how they are feeling...

Hi only I'd be really interested in that app and any dvd recommendations - my dh bought me an intensive body yoga one recently but I found the first sequence too repetitious - 80% sun salutation, prefer a bit more variety. I have a tame Barbara Curry one which is good if you're starting out but not so much after that.

Not doing so good today so its going to be a challenge - may resort to a long walk to and from counselling session.

Morning striped

Good idea! Working exercise in somehow always makes me feel better as I've done it despite being busy!

Stripedmum Tue 23-Jul-13 17:16:45

Oh I feel pretty low today. My health anxiety has flared up and I'm certain I've got some kind of throat cancer (I have a raspy voice). It's be funny if it wasn't such a big fear.

Sooo...I'm off out. I can't really be bothered but I'm trying to make it something I do EVERY day for some kind of positive foucs, focusing on things I can control rather than on what I can't (random cancers).

Will report back.

Did you get out Colouring?

Stripedmum Tue 23-Jul-13 18:14:49

5.5k done. Thank God.

Hi striped sorry you're having a rubbish day. Health anxiety sounds so horrible. Have you ever had any cbt? I have a friend who had it badly for a while and I think that helped her a bit.

Good for you getting out. Hope you get on OK.

I did get out for 15 min walk to counselling and back, but not massively taxing. Also not having a good day tbh. Out socialising last night with school mums and I do not find it easy. Related nightmares all night and feeling s**t this morn. Picking up a bit now tho.

Stripedmum Wed 24-Jul-13 17:02:32

Another terrible day here. Just feeling very low, confused and anxious and wondering when my life is going to get any better. I'm going to get out for my run as it's a commitment I've made to myself but at the moment I am struggling to see how it's helping or if it's giving me any hope.

(((Hugs))) striped. How long have you been on treatment/feeling so bad? I found 5pm bad til I realised it was a low blood sugar thing. Having a nap after lunch also helps me.

Hope you managed to get out for your run. I have failed to do much today as I ran out of time this morn and dcs broke up at lunchtime. Demobbed to do aerobics tomorrow though s this week has been less good than last exercise wise.

Stripedmum Wed 24-Jul-13 20:31:31

Thank you. It's done. No energy to say any more tonight. X
