Reasons not to jump off a bridge.

I need some reasons why I don't go and jump off a bridge.
I know I am not thinking rationally, but its blocking everything else out.
thoughts are go to the GP and sit in the waiting room which may be a good idea but I would look pretty strange
called my CPN yesterday but other than crisis they can't stop my head.
I have tried every distration known to man including effing about being silly on MN.
Still want to jump off a bridge.
I sound like an arse, but try spending a day where you can't concentrate on what anyone is saying to you as your head is going on and on about bridges. Took me 20 mins to get a row of figures right and it only added up to 50.

Can you go to a GP?

There are many reasons why you shouldn't. I think you know them. Can you have 5 minutes peace to get your concentration back?

I cant add up figures even when concentrating so you are already better than me!

Are they specific reasons for these thoughts?

Ok.
It would either hurt lots or kill you.

Some poor sod would need to fish you out.

Don't you think your family would be really really sad?

Who'd feed the cat/dog/fish?

You can fix this, but you can't fix being dead.

Please don't think about it anymore. Maybe think about food or something you do enjoy. Or can you throw yourself into a mindless task? Listen to some crappy pop music and sing/dance along?

Come on, tell me what's going on...

I can think of lots of reasons. Including the reaction of people who see it (someone I used to know had someone jump and land in front of her car - shaken just doesn't cover it)

Nowt strange about sitting and waiting for your GP to slot you in. Take something to keep you busy. It'll be worth it.

I bake or clean things to keep busy busy.
Try to focus on something in the future.

Go sit in that GP's waiting room because as someone else said, you cannot fix being dead. Would telling some faceless souls on the internet help while you wait?

I was where you are now 3 weeks ago only it was a very high multi story car park (had already dismissed the local one as not high enough). I phoned my DH and he told me to go straight home and he also came home from work. I'm telling you this so that you can see that it is possible to feel as bad as you do and come out the other side.

Proper reasons not to jump: unless its very high you're more likely to be seriously injured than die which will make your life infinitely worse than it seems right now.

Get yourself somewhere safe and preferably have someone with you.

I remember reading an article about a bridge in the US which is well used by jumpers. The fact was that of those who survived, a big majority of these guys thought 'oh f*! I don't want to do thisssssssss' as they fell.

Look - the fact is that most people have been on this same road. Some further along than others, and some to the point of no return.

In 100 years time, when nothing current in our lives will matter all tht much, how do you want your descendents to think of you - the jumper or the one who...

Because tomorrow/next week/next month you might discover a great book or song or picture or play; or you might stumble on a new talent (how can you know you wouldn't be a great downhill skier or crocheter?); or you might meet a new friend or come up with a filthy joke that makes even the most prim person laugh; or you might discover a new place or a new taste that you love so much you want to tell the world about it. And none of that will happen if you are dead.

There's a Robert Louis Stevenson line that's something like 'so long as we love we serve, if we are loved I would almost say we are indispensible, and no man is useless if he has a friend.'

What is the reason you want to jump off the bridge? Go and get help for that.

Go and read the thread about the best and worst things that have happened to Mumsnetters. Read the very brief stories of the awful pasts, abuses, rapes, and personal tragedies that have happened to your fellow MNers, and be awed and inspired by how strong they are - we all are - to be able to come through many many kinds of pain and sorrow.

Will you check in later on and let us know how you're doing? Vitrual tea and biccie for now.

The reason is: because it won't always be this bad.

Because it WILL get better.
I speak as someone who spent weeks trying decide whether it was better that I went or my child.

I promise you it will get better. You are not alone.

Because it won't always be this bad and you will look back on this day and feel so proud for how far you have come.

I'm Ok. Still skating on the edge a bit, but OK.
