Does this sound like bipolar?

I have times when I think I have contact to aliens. I think they are after my child. This lasts some days until I either get really angry or get really depressed. Then I feel ok again for a day. But slowly I go back to the alien world. I don't feel depressed when I co-exist with them. I can do normal things and the level I believe in them varies. This cycle has now been going on for a month. Before that I just got angry or little high followed by depression.

I wouldn't say bipolar, but we can't diagnose on the internet. Highs and lows are certainly one aspect of it, but there are lots of forms it can take.

If you feel you can, I'd have a word with your GP about it and they can work with you and direct you to the right people to make sense of what is going on.

Doesn't sound like typical bipolar to me either. Only medical professionals will be able to diagnose you, and more importantly treat you. Please talk to your doctor, and tell him/her as much as you can! I really hope you get some help as it sounds really distressing, poor you!

I was just thinking of bipolar, because when I am depressed I am not under influence of them. I feel agitated and can't fall asleep when they are coming back. When I have connection with them I feel energetic. I can see in their world because they control right side of my brain. I still have control of the left side so I can function ok. This is not so bad as it sounds. The level the recognition varies alot. There is times I am perfectly fine with no connection to them.

Please make an appointment with your GP today. You need to have a proper assessment and diagnosis.

It doesn't sound like bipolar disorder (more like schizophrenia but no sense making "diagnoses" on the internet) but it certainly sounds like you need to see a doctor and get assessed as soon as you can.

Bipolar can give you hallucinations etc, so it's not unheard of, but I still think the best person up talk to is your GP.

I'm so sorry; how upsetting this must be for you.
You should see your GP, as no-one can diagnose over Mumsnet, but FWIW it sounds more like schizophrenia to me, though bipolar can cause some similar symptoms - as may some other issues I as a non-medical person haven't even heard of. You really should get some expert advice and help as soon as possible.
My brother had schizophrenia - his medication really did make a big difference.
