I have a baby and a toddler. I have been referred to cmht but it will take at least 2 weeks to hear about them. My HV is just brushing it off and is no help. I can manage at home just even though I feel awful. I can't go to baby/toddler groups anymore, because how I feel. Is there any places one could get support?

I dont know so am partly bumping for you.

Do you want to talk a bit more about it on here?
Someone else might be or have been in slightly the same boat as you.

I have had counselling and it has been suggested. At the moment I am waiting for referral to go through. I am not sure if I can wait any longer.
I have been feeling really bad today. I am getting suicidal.
I could go to GP's and see what she thinks.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish elvis. Why not go back to your GP and see if she can speed things up a bit. Do you have Home Start in your area? I found my volunteer a massive help for stopping me feeling isolated, might be worth looking into. The Samaritans are good if you just want to talk to someone about how you feel.

I tried ADs and had bad reactions. I then tried counselling which didn't work for me. Just finished a course of CBT which I'd really recommend if you don't get on with ADs or counselling. I had to push for it on the NHS but it was worth the effort.

Aside from what other people have suggested, do try the podcasts on the Mental Health Foundation; go for a walk; try themindgym.com or livelifewell.com; eat well;also, there are usually groups locally which offer support, I was really surprised when I saw my local zoo offered one.

Hope you start to feel better soon :) I felt awful for a few months recently and I never thought anything would get better, but it does. The one thing I wished about that time is that I'd leaned on my friends more.

i went finally to gp's. she was nice and contacted them I was supposed to called by someone yesterday or today. I haven't heard anything. It is now just over a month I went to gp's and got first referred. I think I will give up nhs and look for something else.

Has anyone actually got any help in a reasonable time frame?

I can really empathise elvis. It's awful when it's so hard.

Has anyone actually got any help in a reasonable time frame?

Yes once, through IAPT. While you still care about getting help I'd advise pestering your gp to push along referral. I hope you can access some help. Your post hit raw nerve because I've just been refused help from both IAPT and CMHT (although did see CMHT for assessmemt) with 10 days of being referred). Unfortunately I suspect it's due to the funding cuts combined with more people struggling and seeking help. Very hard times Sad

Poor you, AlteredState. It does not sound promising. What does IATP stand for?

I am stuck. GP can't prescribe me any medication atm. I have to see a psychiatrist, because diagnosis is unclear.

IAPT stands for Improving Access to Psychological Therapies so not medication- based. I think it depends where in the UK you are but England definitely does although think can be patchy.

Hope today is going better for you. Does you gp know that you were getting suicidal? I only ask because I've been asked whether I'm suicidal sooooo many times this week by medical staff! I'm not but can't help but wonder whether it actually would make any difference to them if I was. It does seem to miss the point that actually I don't want to get to the point of being suicidal Confused.

Just remembered that I did get a very quick med change by a psych years ago through a&e. Probably a long wait there but not as long as a month Shock

No call so far. I was better in the morning despite waking up at 4 and stressing about the situation. Now I feel tired.

If you say you are suicidal, they ask if you have started to put things ready for it, like bought a rope etc. I think you only get help here where I live if you actually have tried to commit suicide. This is the second time I have not been contacted as promised.
