To cut a long story short, I think I've basically lost the plot. There's been so much going on that its probably not surprising and I've had health problems which combined with other stress and today I've just cracked.

I've been struggling with physical symptoms, fatigue, palpitations but tests back show no iron deficiency or other problems. Yesterday I apparently left the iron on, the back door unlocked and the garage door wide open with the keys in- for the whole day. My job requires attention to detail and mine's gone. I'm going to take the rest of the week off, but what do I tell my boss that doesn't make me look like a total nutcase/nightmare employee? Do I have to say that I'm basically having mental health problems? Please help, need to let them know asap. Sad

Go to your GP, they will sign you off, tell your boss that you are struggling with your state of mind, you needn't tell them any more than that, or even that if you dont want to.

Ive been signed off since the end of oct, my sick notes say "Stress Related Problem", and mine is because I have an unpleasant job and am going on ML soon, so im sure in your case your boss wouldnt think any less of you.

Ive felt much better with being off work, you have to prioritise you x

Hi ThatBintAgain, have you spoken with your Dr as this can help you explain things to your managers. When I had to let work know I was really ill because of my Eating DIsorder, I asked if she had a few minutes to spare (via email). When she did I tried to explain things as clearly as I could. You will be surprised how understanding people can be.

Thank you both of you. I have an appointment tomorrow at 5pm, I couldn't get one sooner unfortunately but I'm due back at work first thing tomorrow. I was going to speak to my boss tonight but I basically bottled it as I'm not sure how to phrase it. I'm also mindful of the fact that the only other person who works in my department is away until next week and there are several deadlines mounting up, so I feel like shit because I'm basically leaving them in the lurch. I can barely function normally as it is (and if you take into account the fact that I managed to leave the house wide open - and nearly burnt it down!) and I just cant deal with any of the work issues as well as the various other things that are collapsing around my ears. Sad I just feel like my boss might be angry and I'll find myself promising to help and then end up getting dragged into working.

I hope you're feeling alright now Strawberries and I'm glad your work were good with you yummy.

Just tell your boss that you need to see your gp and will give him an update later then.

Im ok as long as I dont think of work, which with DS2s imminent arrival, christmas and a wedding is quite easy Grin

You are clearly under strain and if your boss cares for your well being they should realise that it isn't something anyone takes lightly! Hope you are soon feeling better too
