Any mothers with bpd?

Ive got borderline personality disorder and have a 2 month old.

Ive been seeing various psychologists since I was 15 (now 23) and last saw one a month before I got pregnant. I was always thought to have bipolar disorder but the psychologist who did my last assessment rang me a month into my pregnancy to tell me she thinks I have BPD. I had no further treatment and I dont think it went any further than the phonecall so I have no idea if its in any doctors notes - I request copies of any letters to doctors and didnt get one about bpd. I do know the doctors know of my old diagnosis of bipolar and needing anti-psychotics in the past.

Obviously since having a baby they check up on me alot as they do with everyone. Im starting to think if I start to struggle with my bpd that there's a risk dd will be taken away. I dont know whether Ive been officially diagnosed with bpd and affraid that if Im not honest it will cause problems if it is in fact on my records. Everything Ive found on the internet about parents with bpd has been horrible and scared me somewhat.

Those of you that are mothers with bpd - how were you treated by doctors and health visitors?

That is my diagnosis, with a baby too (my first). I haven't seen lots of psychologists and had no treatment for it other than medication for anxiety or when I also have depression. I have been "checked up" on by the midwife, health visitor, gp etc - all medical professionals have the same duty of care. You don't necessarily know they are checking up on you, they just see you and that is that. I would have thought the fact that you had bipolar and been under various psychologists would have caused as much if not more alertness to your medical team than this diagnosis as you are not receiving treatment or intervention for it.

With health visitors, you see a lot of them in first 3 months of babies life, then as I have found I only get 2 appointments in my area with a health visitor when baby is 6mths and 12 months old and I am asked to get the baby weighed once a month as long as baby putting weight on ok from 3mths old.

well, that is my experience. I was very worried when pregnant also, but I now realise no need to have been.

Re: declaring your diagnosis, you can tell people who ask what you have been told and what medication you are on and what intervention you need and then it is up to medical people to take it further, But remember they know about your bipolar and haven't reacted.

I'm also a mum to a 17 month old and I was diagnosed ten years ago. I'm seeking more treatment currently and I was terrified DS might be taken away, but I've been reassured by people saying that because I have a partner, there'd be no reason to remove a child.
