Depression and hormones

Since around November time I have been feeling down on and off. Initially I was convinced it was all hormone related and kept a diary which linked things 28 days apart. One of the main problems was suffering from bad ?morning sickness? (vomiting and diarrhoea) despite def not being pregnant. When I saw my gp she said there was very little you could test hormonally apart from seeing if you have started the menopause. She did do some blood test to see if hormone levels appeared correct which they did, alongside many other blood tests
After many tearful appointments I was prescribed ADs which I have now been taking for 2 weeks. Some days are better than others, but I still feel tired and sickly every morning. Today has been worse than many, I have a very bad headache too and just want to curl up and go to sleep. I have looked in my diary and again, the same symptoms were there 28 days ago.
Has anyone else got a similar story that I could then ask the GP to check out? In my mind I still think there is an underlying problem with my hormones, though not denying that I am a bit depressed too.

ihbg Hello,My grammar may be bad so I apologise now!
I think that it is vital you return to a GP or ask to see another.Anti- depressants may mask an underlying concern--or may not.But the issue is to rule out the reasons for the nausea, have you been for any other tests? Have you had a referral for example to speak to a nurse in a well woman clinic/gynae or similar resource at your local surgery?Sometimes this is a far more productive and less stressful way than talking to busy GPs and often starts investigative measures from the nurses input. It is a case of doing what none of us enjoy and that is returning again until it is to your satisfaction and anything serious eliminated before anyone finally decides it is a depressive period. Please pluck up courage again and voice your concerns that you would be happier to exclude a physical cause first before taking what could be unnecessary drugs.best wishes and don't feel down it can be sorted!

Sorry, in a bit of a rush, but do you feel low all of the time, or just alongside these physical symptoms (that sound like they only come every 4 weeks)? I would have thought it's possible that these are symptoms of depression that are linked to your monthly cycle. Perhaps someone else will be along soon who can help more than me. I'd say that you should give the AD's more time to work - 6 weeks or so. You may also need to increase the dose. You'll usually start off on a low dose to see how things go.

Yes scissors they are definitely worse at some points in my cycle, though everybody has good and bad days so it's hard to prove that they are linked?
