Grace's 800 Calorie Blood Sugar Diet, Part 2

Hello again. After losing around two and half stone in eight weeks before the summer I took a couple of months off. Mainly low carbed, walked a lot but more calories.

Surprisingly I've only put a couple of pounds back on, I thought it would be lots more. I want to lose another couple of stone so I'm starting again today, 800 calories a day with photos of food, logging on MFP etc.

Today I had Greek yogurt with cherries, apple, and chopped nuts for breakfast. Salad for lunch with some extra pumpkin seeds.

Dinner was sweet chilli chicken with cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower with cheese, a bit of sweet potato, a tiny bit of cous cous and red cabbage. Bit carby but not terribly so.

Thank you Poppycat! I hope I can stick to it again. I've managed to stay off bread over the summer but can't say the same for chocolate.

Today, usual breakfast (I have the same every day). Lunch I had four turkey bacon slices with watercress and houmous.

I had a friend here for tea who is weight lifting and always hungry, I love feeding her. I roasted chicken breasts with deep slashes in them, with sweet potato (again), mushroom, cauliflower, homemade coleslaw and salad. For the last ten minutes I poured a sauce made of peanut butter, soy sauce and chilli over the chicken and it browned nicely. I've been eating pumpkin seeds too. Probably a bit over 800 today but all good stuff.

Dinners are usually meat or fish with lots of veg and some kind of nutty sauce. I'm not that adventurous and know what I like.

Looks yummy! Can I ask what you normally have for breakfast? I really love this food- looks so healthy and nourishing. In the past when I just calorie counter (without going low carb) I woul eat half my calories on rubbish!

I make it the night before as follows

I use a small glass and dollop in some Greek yogurt, a spoonful of chopped mixed nuts, a small amount of chopped apple . Sometimes other fruit, or a spoonful of peanut butter. Stir it well. If you leave it all night the nuts soak up the yogurt and it's lovely and filling too. And quick, as a childminder I need a fast breakfast!

Wanting snacks today and trying not to give in. Lunch was ham, cheese and salad with humous. Dinner was chicken and sweet potato (again, I DO eat other things but these need using). I made a sauce with double cream and mushrooms, added a few prawns and some watercress. Low calorie jelly afterwards.

I forgot to add to my breakfast post that I put several frozen cherries in it too.

Thanks- your breakfast sounds lovely- like a low carb Bircher muesli! Is sweet potato fine then on BSD? That would go down well with my DH, who is gamely going along with me for at least the evening meals.

Some people cut sweet potato out completely but I've always been ok with small amounts of it. And yes, I wanted to make a low carb Bircher as that's what I would have had before this way of eating. It's delicious.

Looks like you've found your way with this diet. I am going to watch out for inspiration here.

I think the key is planning and now you know the calories of individual parts of your meals you are able to stick with this diet.

And well done on your weight loss!

Thanks gildee I'll read that later. Can I quickly ask, did you get hungry when you first started and if so how long did that last. I HATE being hungry Sad

You can be hungry until you work out how much protein, fat etc you need to fill you up. I'd figured it out in a week I think. If you eat more cheese and meat with your meals you'll be fuller. Have you read the book?

Food today, prawn salad at lunchtime. I made lamb meatballs for tea with lamb mince, garlic, rocket, nuts and blitzed it all in the food processor. Rolled into balls and baked it. Had this with some stir fry and roasted veg.

Hello, can I hop on this thread?

I have been hopeless lately - totally out of my routine, job hunting and permanently stressed about that, and had a ton of nights out / weekends away, plus a broken arm to contend with (now healed thankfully!) Really need to get back into BSD and lose weight - and also want to cook healthier meals for my family while I am at home, so starting properly on Saturday. This thread and your earlier one are fantastic - huge inspirations - so I'm going to read through tonight and make a shopping list (I have the MM book but not keen on his recipes).

One thing though, can you buy Lavash bread anywhere but from Joseph's shop on Amazon? Can just about stand the £3.95 price point, but then an extra £1.75 postage PER PACKET is a bit of a joke. Do any health food shops stock it? Or online shops with a better postage deal (am an Amazon Prime customer so get doubly enranged when having to pay for any postage, ever Grin )

Thanks so much for this thread by the way.Flowers I love your ideas and have a feeling it is going to keep me going.... I'm basically a prawn / chicken / salmon plus veggies low carber, but always get stuck with breakfasts so going to try your bircher idea. I am also a person who eats bread for convenience but once I stop eating it for a week or so I lose the cravings. Not so good at avoiding red wine, but I will try to stand firm on that one as after Friday have no nights out planned until 30 September!

You can get Lavash bread from the Muscle Food website - and lots of other fab things too - still isn't cheap though....

I've only seen Lavash on Amazon and Muscle food. I cut it in half and freeze it and lasts a while as I don't have it every day.

I have completely forgotten to take photos today as I've had a busy day. Took the mindees for a picnic. My lunchbox had a roast chicken breast with salad, some frozen cherries and cheese. I made a big jam jar of peanut butter dressing earlier this week and used some of that on the chicken.

For dinner I got the Tesco gammon steaks with pineapple, parsley and cheese and made that with salad and fried mushrooms and onions. Really nice. I am determined to get into the next stone band next week, which will be a real psychological boost.

So which book to get? The 8 week diet, the fast diet or fast diet recipes?

Report
whatsonyourplate · 19/09/2016 09:28

Crepe either the 8 week blood sugar diet, or the 8 week blood sugar diet recipe book. The first one has more info on the science, then has recipes and 4 weeks of meal plans. The second still tells you the basics but has more recipes and photos and 8 weeks of meal plans.

I have locked myself away all weekend to update my files (Ofsted are coming soon) and have emerged today. Nearly into the next stone band, on the 0 today. I haven't been making lovely meals all weekend but I've stuck to the 800 cals.

Peanut butter sauce is basically peanut butter, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, some garlic and ginger and various other bits from the fridge. Put it all in a jam jar and shake. I use it for salad dressing and roasting meat.

I recommend the 800 Calorie Blood Sugar Diet book, not read the others. I think you really have to be in the right frame of mind to do this, there have been times when I've started and stopped over and over.

Things that keep me going:

I am two, nearly three sizes smaller than I was, my clothes are smaller, my belly has shrunk. People who haven't seen me for a while are surprised when they do. My blood sugar is lower. I have more energy on less calories and I don't feel bloated like I used to. Posting on here really really helps and planning what I'm going to eat. The first week is hard. Drink lots of water, take psyllium husk for constipation. This does work!
