Hi. I'm new to this kind of diet, but really need a o lose weight, so giving 5:2 a try and logging everything on mfp. Anyway, I planned for 500 cals and spent 58 on exercise (I'm writing a grant application so on my huge arse all day). Anyway mfp told me I had 558 cals and then I managed to go over that by about 73 (rice cakes). Does this matter or have I ballsed up on my first day?

You're aiming to have a calorie deficit over a week. I wouldn't worry about being 73 over at all.

I think that most people say don't eat your exercise calories though.

Thank you. So I could make it up by having a bit less tomorrow then?

Zeezeek, come over here where there's lots of tips and support. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/2593674-5-2-Thread-number-62-If-God-wanted-me-to-touch-my-toes-she-d-have-put-chocolate-on-the-floor-There-s-a-more-scientific-approach-to-nutrition-fitness-in-our-friendly-support-group
Anything under 1000 is a minifast and 631 is a damn good first fast. Give yourself a normal NFD or non fast day tomorrow and have another go the next day. This is no crash diet, it's a way of eating. Slow but sure.

Hi, zeezeek No worry. Many folk take a couple of weeks or more to manage 500 cal FDs.
Just approach each FD with a fresh sheet and don't bother trying to go below 500 next time - noone does that.
Your are very welcome to join us on 5:2 thread #62
