Hi newbies! Wasn't so long ago I was dipping my toe in 5:2. Now I'm (hopefully!) a lifer!

Good luck and keep us posted with how you get on. Monday is a great day to fast as there are loads of other fasters who do Mondays.

Pop over to the main thread too, we're a very friendly bunch.

Thanks mazzle, will do, is it the thread 40 one? I plan to use mfp too. Bit anxious whether I will cope as not good at being hungry, get a bit shaky and a bit (alot?!) moody but hope to get used to it. Many friends have had real success! good luck all!

How is everyone doing? This is my tough time when the dc are home from school and getting a snack. Its all I can do not to dive into the biscuit jar. So far I've had a banana and a chocolate rice cake - Im trying to save calories for tea time but it seems ages away

Well not a bad day for me. Had an egg mid morning, A banana and cup a soup for lunch and a fishcake with toms and cucumber for tea (eat early as with kids). I think I will find evenings difficult as I tend to pick then but luckily out tutoring tonight which will keep my mind of it. How many calories would be about right for the non-fast days anyone? Looking forward to breakfast already! How did it go for everyone?

So far so good. Veg soup for lunch and stir fry for tea later. Should come in at just under 500 calories for the day. Pretty hungry but coping ok ( just cleaned the bathroom to take my mind off it). Not as bad as I thought it would be.

2 days fasting (500 calories in total), allow a decent fast in that time (I managed 15 hours today). 5 days eating fairly sensibly- not going mad!

I think that's it.

So today I had black coffee and water for breakfast. A 10 calorie jelly at 11am. Lunch was veggie soup and pomegranate. Dinner was Tom yum soup, popcorn and pineapple pieces (yeah, I know- an odd combination).

A bit hungry by 6pm, but not too bad. Almost all out of calories now, but enough for a cup of tea with milk!

Hello fellow Newbies. It sounds like you did well yesterday! Suddenly I'm craving pineapple QueenofLouisiana, Phlox well done on cleaning the bathroom, mine will have to become self cleaning on fast days. cuggles you
can get the calculated number of advised calories from here
mine is 1750, which is what I think I managed today for my non fast day- i'm guestimating the calories in this evening's turkey Bolognese.

I'm not sure if winging it will work for me herladyshipsoap as I think that is all too easy to slip above the 500: of course the mfp helps keep track.

I had my first fast day yesterday, didnt get home till 830 last night. I made the mistake of carbs for 6am brekkie: oatabix, yoghurt, touch of honey =150 calories. was famished by 12 0'clock had 2 cups of miso soup and faltered in "accidentally" eating a chocolate finger. Why they keep the chocolate fingers with the post-it notes is beyond me: should have just have eaten the paper.

Felt groggy from the lack of caffeine, I cant stomach black tea or coffee. Must have drank around 2.5 litres in herbal tea and water. I didnt really feel hungary till half an hour before dinner.

Dinner was over 500 calories as it was mackerel, half pack of beluga lentils, green beans and cucumber salad. The mackerel was over 300 cal for around 150grammes, but i savoured it, will get some trout in next week

So first fast was nearly 800 calories, next fast day is thursday but I'm planning on buying those egg white cartons to do a veggie omelette for breakfast and bring almonds and carrot to work in case I run out of post-it notes again.

I may even let myself have a nominally milky tea. Will aim to keep it under 600 calories. I normally have pilates on thursday so hope to manage that.

Will try to get down to 500 like you fab fasters next week.

Second fast day today. Already feel hungry! Planning soup for lunch and large chicken salad for tea. need to do small tesco shop at some point today which might be tricky if I'm hungry. Since I started this diet I have become completely obsessed with food ALL the time!

Well I got through it! Managed to go longer today before I ate..lunchtime rather than mid morning. Had a banana, egg and a bowl of porridge (with sugar..I know!) and a few crisps. Was harder to eat well today as out and rushing but at least it is another fast done. Off to bed now though as hungry and ready to pick! Good luck anyone going tomorrow..friday..surely not!

Hello fellow fasters. I did my 16th fast yesterday so I'm pretty new too. Sounds like you are all managing fine.

One thing I have found is that its not hunger that makes me moody and irritable, it's low blood sugar. So if I eat something made of simple carbs for breakfast I get grumpy and starving before lunch. I find it easier on fast days to not eat at all until after work. That way my tummy grumbles but my blood sugar stays stable so I feel fine.

I also found that I was ravenous and eating too much on non fast days for the first month or so but that has completely settled down now so I can eat more healthily on non fast days. A wholemeal and protein breakfast the morning after a fast is really satisfying and stops me from stuffing my face too.

xx

Hello all < waves nervously > I think I am ready to start! I will say hello to the big scary main thread soon but thought I would dip my toe in with you guys first.

I have read lots and like the idea of the fasting. What I am NOT so clear about is calorie counting - I have never done it before and it's kind of alien to me. I gather that it gets easier with time, and I don't have an issue with the >500 cal days themselves....what I am unsure about is the other days. I did the maths bit last night and think I need 458 on a fast day and I have 1835 on other days..? Does that sound right? It doesn't seem like much, so I am not sure if I have misunderstood?
