Fasting / 5:2 diet

Done 5:2 since Feb: cholesterol results

Hi all
My total cholesterol was 5.4, which I reduced to 4.6 by using plant sterols (benecol drinks) but I stopped using any benecol when I started doing 5:2 in Feb. I have to say I have lost very little weight but have changed shape a little.

Just had my new fasting cholesterol (done annually because of a yellow cholesterol deposit on my eyelid and family history of heart disease) and it's now total cholesterol 3.9 !! HDL is 1.5 which is good, I got confused by the other info though and haven't written it all down properly.

So my cholesterol has significantly reduced with this WOE and I will be keeping on going :)

Thanks, I thought so! Has spurred me to keep going despite no weight loss.

Ooh, I like that. I had my fasting cholesterol done last year as part of a study and it was 5.4 as well, which I thought was a bit high. Can you just ask your GP to do a fasting blood test? I'd love to know if I've improved mine after 11 months of 5:2 but haven't got round to asking at the docs if they will do this!

betsy not sure, I get mine done annually due to family history of heart disease and yellow cholesterol deposit on my eyelid (think it's called a xanthilasma?). Wouldn't hurt to ask, I guess?

Thanks for the reply - there's family history so I could probably swing it on that basis. I'll post up the results here if/when I do it!
