Fasting / 5:2 diet

Anyone else feel awful if they don't fast?

I've been 5:2 for the last 3 months or so. I have found it much harder to fast during the school holidays because we're out socialising/having treat days out more often.

I've had a couple of really rough days and I'm starting to wonder if it's linked to how long it's been since my last fast day. Had a really lovely but pretty unhealthy week last week and felt horrible yesterday - very tired and really irritable.

Fasting today and already feel better. Am I imagining there's a connection or does anyone else feel the same?

Yes, I feel similar.

I suffer from an ever so slight wheat intolerance, which flares up occasionally but is only linked to certain products like couscous or those part baked baguettes to name a few. I don't eat any bread or pasta on fast days and since I started this WOE I feel that I react more strongly to things I used to be fine with, or at least thought I was fine with.

I tend to have my three fast days close together (Mon-Wed-Fri) and it's almost as if my body gets cleared from the stuff it doesn't like and rebels when I eat chips, pasta and wine certain foods during the weekend.

In a way it's quite nice as it teaches you what to avoid in a natural way.

Yes! On the Fbi plan page they refer to it as a food hangover, I totally get why! Ive found that as time has gone on ive started to subconsciously pick healthier stuff cos I want the bad stuff less and less :)

Thanks. That all makes a lot of sense, especially the bit about food hangovers and intolerances.

I'm also craving unhealthy stuff much less than I was before and enjoying eating better. I've also found I only want to eat if I'm really hungry. Happily declined pudding at a restaurant the other day because I was full and that has never happened before. Grin
