Fasting / 5:2 diet

Is this ok for a fast day?

Youcanringmybell · 12/08/2013 12:41

Today is my first fast day...
Please tell me if I have gone wrong somewhere.

Black Filter coffee
(20 mins jogging)

Small pot of onion hummous (176cals)
6 cherry tomatoes and an inch of cucumer

later I am having white fish fillet (80cals) and tablespoon of sweetcorn and 2 tablespoons of petit pois.

Probably another filter coffee..does this sound ok or too much? Confused
Other fast days are going to included veggie soups, veggie curry and clear chicken noodle soup.

Sounds fine, I don't think you will have gone over the 500 cals.

Hi Bell - It's my first day too, can we hold hands? You are doing so much better than me.

45kg porridge with water
Diet coke
Pret roasted veg and feta salad
Another diet coke
A banana
Herbal tea

Later I will have a bowl of roasted veg and lentil soup

That lot amounts to about 550 - so I'll be over.

45 kg of porridge!!! Wow. Just that. Wow Wink

..and yes, waaaaaay over 550 calories. More like 265,000 calories. or actually 265,000 kcal (everyone usually calls those simply calories) which is 265 million calories.

I am bloody starving Angry Only because I know I need to be strong.

You sound like you have some good meals there - tastier than mine.
I will invest in buying the stuff for some other recipes on here though.

I need to lose 2 stone...how about you?

Thanks voiceofraisin - how long have you been at this for? Weight loss??? Thanks

Sounds fine.

Don't forget to drink some water. and have a herbal tea if you start to feel peckish mid-afternoon.

good luck :)

I was ravenous before lunch - breakfast was 7am - but the banana and diet coke have worked since. I'm at work so I have to keep going. A friend tipped me off on Pret salads - she recommends the duck at under 200 calories.

I want to lose a stone and I'm aiming for 12 weeks. I usually exercise at lunchtime - pilates or yoga at the gym - but I wasn't convinced it would be a good idea on a first fast day.

Next fast day is Thursday - how about you? Are you 4:3?

Ah, I am lurking really. I keep meaning to do it but always have some excuse or other for it not being a good time to start.....

Go on, Raisin. How hard can it be?

Probably stating the flaming obvious but it's worth noting that the Pret salad calorie counts - the ones given on the shelf label - are without the dressing. So for example the tuna nicoise is about 175 cals without the dressing. The dressing alone is over 200 cals. Nicer with the dressing though!

youcanringmybell I do 5:2. I've been doing it nearly a year now. It gets easier.

Well done for doing it for so long Frenchfancy - is this now part of your everyday habits now? I hope I can just take it on as 'normal' now. I will sometimes have to swap a day overall but I should always now do 5:2

I also am eating low gi on my five days at the moment because weight loss is important to me for now. i have a target of 10st 10 (puts me at a size 12) but I have a wedding on the 24th August and my dress is ever so slightly too tonight on my tummy so I will be exercising (5k) three times a week just so I can shift about 5-7 pounds before then Sad

So what kind of responses does everyone get about them doing 5:2 and have they noticed weight loss? Smile

Thanks Awkward. I just dabbed the odd broccoli stem in the dressing in a pitiful way.

I've been hearing loads about this and about health benefits. Do you do 2 days with just 500 calls and then 5 normal or do you split the 2 days?

Bit worried how I will cope on 500!

Report
Lizzabadger · 13/08/2013 07:54

Split the two days (although I don't think it really matters - easier that way though).

Yes - I have lost around 12lb doing mainly 4:3 since 27th june. I haven't really told anyone (am embarrassed to be dieting tbh) except one friend who immediately tried to get me to share his piece of cake on a fast day Angry.

Hen After a grand total of one day's fasting, I found it a challenge, but certainly not impossible. Though I did eat slightly more than 500 calories, I've reasoned that for a first attempt, it's not bad. I'm encouraged and pressing on.

Those at work - do you tell colleagues? Or is it best to keep it to yourself?

Can I just add - diet coke is not your friend. Read up on sweeteners and what they do to your appetite besides the adverse side effects to your health.
Dh is doing 5:2, I'm not as bfing. Quorn is a good low cal option and miso soup is a great mid afternoon resolve strengthener.

Hi all just gate crashing to ask, how many calories do you have on non fasting days?

Report
KandyBarr · 13/08/2013 09:51

stainesmassif I'm sure you're right about Diet Coke. I don't normally touch the stuff, but I figured I needed to start with a boost. I'll aim to drop it from the menu as I adjust.

I have changed my mind a bit for this week and am doing 4:3 for next two weeks as I have a dress to fit into...pressure!

My next fast day is tomorrow and then Friday. I hope I manage it Shock

I bought some falafel for tomorrow to tide me over.
