Fasting / 5:2 diet

Breastfeeding?

Apologies if this is obvious - have only just started browsing these 5:2 threads. Don't usually do diets but quite like the idea of this!

Am breastfeeding a three month old - however it doesn't seem to be having the magic fat sucking effect that it did with my first baby! Also, it only made me feel more hungry for the first few weeks, feel normal now.
Would fast days be ok do you think?

Also, I am going for two runs a week at the moment, I assume it would be best NOT to do the fast days on running days?

Thanks!

I'm not an expert on nutrition or dieting but I would imagine that fasting whilst breast feeding is not a good idea.

Fwiw, I didn't lose any weight until I stopped bfing my dcs, and your dc is only 3 months old, give yourself a break, it's ok not to snap back to your pre pregnancy weight!

I don't know the official position on bf and fasting but if you do decide to do it I'd add on an extra 1 or 2 hundred cals to the fast days to allow for the bf.

Thanks both. Have now spotted another thread on this, oops. But most people were advised the poster that it wasn't recommended and could affect her milk supply. My milk supply will be well established by now though. Hmmm.

I know bdbfan but I snapped back last time, am frustrated it's taking longer this time ... lost 2.5 stone about 4 years ago (before dc) and always worried I'll creep back up..

I'd suggest waiting till baby is six months old? How about the virtual gastric band hypnosis to help you lose a few pounds?

Countess Dr M did advise that 5:2 wasn't suitable for BF mums, but I think he was just covering his back. I've seen quite a few mums over the last few months on these threads finding it quite doable.

There was a conversation yesterday on the new main thread on the subject. Look for sauceforthegander's posts.

I'm bf a 3-month old and have been 5:2 -ing for 6 weeks. If anything my milk supply increased and baby was choking on fast let down, reflux, milk everywhere.

But I also felt starved, so starved every meal on nfds felt like an emergency. So had to take a break. Lost 4lb in 6 weeks.

I wouldn't fast when breastfeeding unless your baby is sleeping through the night because of the double whammy of stress on your body. This is a pro IF article but the end describes about cortisol being too high if fasting when stressed or not sleeping enough benefits of IF

Yup my baby is sleeping through.

somewhere I guess maybe the fact you were rested helped with milk production. Do you think the urgency to eat could have been related to blood sugar problems - maybe lower carb would suit you better with or without fasting (I am very pro lowering grains and increasing good fats and and veg at the mo ;) )
