Hi all

I am thinking of starting this WOE as opposed to high protein, low carb but am interested to know how much people have been losing each week as i know i can lose 3 llb per week on my traditional methods! Thanks.

Thats a bit like asking how long is a piece of string! A lot of it depends on how much you have to lose. The average is around one pound a week, though some people with more to lose find that the early weight losses are more than that. But I wouldn't do it if you're just after a quick fix, or expecting magical results.

Why don't you try it for a few weeks and see how it goes? You don't need any gym memberships, class fees, fancy shakes or bars, or any special food.

5:2 is not a quick fix or a crash diet. It is a long term shift in the way you eat. Average weight loss is 1lb per week, but some weeks you might lose 3, then have 3 weeks of losing nothing.

You may be able to lose 3lb per week using traditional weight loss, but can you keep them off forever?

I've lost 29lbs doing this, and I don't think I'm the biggest loser.

5:2 is not a weight loss programme
its a healthey eating method that happens to reduce the weight of those carrying excess

I lost 3.5lbs in my first week, it then slowed down. Some weeks I lose very little but on average since the end of Jan I have lost 1lb a week. I'd echo what others have said, this isn't a diet it is a shift of how you eat long term, otherwise the weight will go back on. What's so good about it is I can see this working for the long term as unlike traditional weight loss methods I don't have to deprive myself 7 days a week, I really don't feel like I'm on a diet. I have been on diets before and lasted a month at the month.
