Morning after pill confusion!

I took the morning after pill Levonelle on the 12th January 25 hours after having unprotected sex, my last period was the 28th of December. I had the usual ovulation cramp in my left side on the 11th (day of unprotected), I also had unprotected on the 10th but used the withdrawal method.

  1. Does the morning after pill work after ovulation?
  2. What are the chances of me being pregnant?
  3. Has anybody gotten pregnant despite taking the morning after pill?
  4. If yes, what were your symptoms?

I'm 12dpo and from about 7dpo I've had waves of sickness which have since began to subside, I have been getting quite strange and unusual cramp mostly in my lower sides (not like AF cramp), I'm absolutely exhausted and have some of the worst lower back pain I've experienced.. I've also had a few sharp pinching feelings in my back. I'm yet to bleed after taking the pill and am supposedly due my period on the 25th but am aware that the MAP can change that, when can I test for an accurate result?

Not sure if it makes a difference but i had unprotected sex on the 14th January too, twice, however we used the withdrawal method. I also had unprotected sex on the 21st January, this time without the withdrawal method. Obviously as you can tell the pregnancy wouldn't be completely unnecessary, the MAP was just a general precaution!

Well, it only fails when ovulation has taken place.

One of its main action is disrupting ovulation, but it has secondary action in terms of making uterine lining less receptive to implantation, so it's not totally clear cut.

It can give you all sorts of symptoms like PMT or early pregnancy, and throw out your cycle. Best advice is to test from 14 days after unprotected intercourse, when AF is due, and periodically after that if AF does not turn up on time. If period is 14 days late but tests still say BFN, see you GP.

That's quite a long time to chew your fingernails, so I hope you get a clear answer (one way or another, but ideally the way you' like) well before that.

Yes currently think I am also pregnant!

Had Ovulation pain on the Fri evening had sex that night, condom failed.
MAP 13 hours later and now late. Done a test today and there is a faint line.

Thank you both for your replies! Feeona how long ago did you take the MAP? I'm just wondering when I can test for an accurate result! Sorry that the pill didn't work for you, I hope you get the result you're after in the end!

I don't really know how it works but I took the morning after pill towards the end of the 72 hours given and I'm 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow. My midwife also told me a friend of hers found herself to be pregnant after taking the morning after pill, as has a friend of mine since. My advice would be to take a test when your period would be due.
Best of luck Flowers
