Periods After Baby

Hi, I had a baby 8 weeks ago (my second boy), I bled for 3 weeks after the birth, and as of yet haven't had my period. The doctor has prescribed the pill for me until I can get the coil put in, but I've been waiting for the start of my period to take it.
I'm slightly worried that my period hasn't started yet, although there is hardly any chance I'm pregnant again (been using condoms since). My question is do I take the pill anyway without waiting for my period?? And how long has anyone waited for their period after having a baby?? Mine returned as normal the first time so this is new. TIA x

With both DC I didn't get my period until 10 months after they were born! Basically, if I breastfeed more than a tiny amount I don't get my period. Varies hugely person to person though. I don't get on with the pill so can't advise about that, but I'd definitely use something before your periods come back- no periods is not a guarantee that you're not fertile.

DS2 is 13 months and still no sign. Ds1 was exactly 12 months when my period started again.

Around eight months both times. Id start taking the pill or use condoms.

Wow so I could be waiting a while then?? I have my appointment today to discuss having the coil, I have so many questions about it. I'm so confused as to whether to have it or the injection. I still haven't taken the pill yet but will ask the doctors advice on that today.
It sounds silly but I hope I get a period soon just so I know everything is getting back to something normal, if that makes sense. X
