Copper coil after pregnancy - less cramping??

Having first baby in April and don't want any more!! Can't take hormonal contraceptives as they make me bonkers and suicidal.
I had a copper coil for a year or so a few years ago, but had it taken out because I had a lot of cramping and discomfort with it the whole time. The doc said it was probably because my uterus was a bit too small as I hadn't had any kids. Just wondering if anyone's had the coil fitted after having kids and how your experience was?

Nothing helpful to tell you because I have exactly the same question! Watching with interest...

I had mine removed after having contraction-like cramping for a year. Couldn't take it anymore.

I didn't have one before DC but I've had one for four+ years and I love it. Period pains are worse than before (very sharp contractions down into my thighs) but they are very very short, just a moment or two. Periods are heavier but shorter, and actually since I've started using a Mooncup they aren't even that heavy.

I had one in the summer after my second DC and although periods are much heavier I have no bonkers hormones and it's not so heavy I can't cope.

I'm very happy with it!

Hi - yes, I had it put in when ds was 5 months old. Every time I bent over to pick him up etc I got a contraction cramp. It was checked twice and they said it was placed correctly so I asked it to be removed in the end. Shame really as it was a good non-hormonal solution for me, and my periods weren't affected

I've had it since dd, haven't had any cramping of note but also haven't had a proper period (because I'm bfing I think)

Everyone has v different experiences of it. My friend is childless and has had if for years and no problems. I really wish it had worked for me as I can't take hormones.

I think I'll give it another go and keep my fingers crossed... There really aren't any great alternatives if you can't have hormones apart from condoms which I hate!
