Family planning

Does anyone use a diaphragm or cap for contraception any more?

Currently using condoms but want something that doesn't interrupt play so much (ahem). I can't have any hormonal contraception and I'm not sure the copper coil is for me, the first couple of days of my period are so heavy that I'm not sure I could cope with increased flow.

That basically leaves natural family planning which I'm not sure id be confident enough to trust because my cycle is not 100% regular or a diaphragm, which I think would be the ideal solution. I already use a mooncup so the insertion aspect wouldn't faze me. But do doctors even prescribe them these days or are they relics from the 1970s?!

I'm almost 40, two children both CS births, not planning any more but if an accident happened would be happy if that makes sense!

Yes it's available and combined with some Nfp might give you enough protection against pregnancy. You'll probably have to find. Family planning specialist Gp, or and older one though!

Just be aware that you may be setting yourself up for seriously worrying accidental pregnancy though- misc and other complications are more common after age 40 and you won't have been on folic acid etc.

Do you actually really want another child ? I'm wondering if really maybe that's where things are heading. After all vasectomy would be your obvious choice...

No definitely don't want another one (awful pregnancies, terrible births) but would be happy just to go with the flow if an accident happened. My other half is younger than me by a few years so personally I wouldn't want to close that door for him in case something happened to me (I know, fatalistic much?). I'm not sure why I don't like the idea of being sterilised myself though!

Thanks for the reply, very helpful, I think I'll see if there's anyone locally who can fit one and give it a go.
