Sterilisation with ELCS

Forward planning I know, as ttc dc2. Late 30s and definitely don't want anymore pregnancies after this one as first was by no means straightforward - HG, pre-eclampsia, PUPPS & induction.

I have heard that it's possible to have tubes tied during ELCS and, as I'll be pushing for an ELCS anyway was wondering about whether this would be a good option.

Had anyone done this and if so, what was your experience like? Thanks!

A friend of mine has this done during her third section, in fact it was suggested by the hospital. It didn't add anything to her recovery & think she was just pleased it was all done in one go. Think she said it only added about 10mins extra on to the op. Hope you get the birth/procedures you want.

Thank you, isisisis. That's what I was wondering - would it make recovery more complex.

Sounds like a success story!

No, it'll make no noticeble difference to recovery.

There a slightly higher fail rate, as clips seem to wander more easily if placed when everything is still distended/out of place.

And you need to be sure that you really do mean that this is your last pg, come what may (eg baby being rushed off to NICU, prognosis unknown, just as your procedure begins). I know that's a bit grim, and no-one ever wants to contemplate rainbows. But it is a factor on which to be sure of your own thoughts before deciding.

That happened to me, ds2 was rushed off just as they finished the sterilisation. It nearly destroyed me. Huge mistake.

I have spoken to others though who had it done at time of elcs and they said it was much easier all being done at the same time, recovery time same as with just a cs so for some it is a good option as long as the decision was well thought out (unlike mine where i made it last minute Sad)

I had this done almost 8 weeks ago Wink.
My second c section and it only took about 10 mins longer than the first one.
Recovery was just the same (Infact I was discharged after 23 hours).Wink
And feel great that there will be no more babies lol( this one was a pleasant surprise)

I was sterilized at the same time as ELCS for dc3.

I HUGELY regret it. Hormones do funny things to you!

But, absolutely, for some people it's the right thing to do.

Good luck!
