Never ending period

I've just had my second period since the birth of my 3rd child 9 months ago. I started the pill on day 1. I am now on day 14! After about day 9 there hasn't been a flow but (tmi sorry) I lose a blood clot every time I have a bowel movement and /or there is blood when I wipe.

My periods have always been all over the place, very irregular. There were about 3 months between the last one and this one and I'm not breastfeeding anymore.

The last one was so unbelievably heavy, going through a super plus tampon and a pad an hour for the first 2 days. It only lasted a week though. This one was also heavy but not so extreme.

Any ideas what could be causing the clotting? Could it be the pill? An infection? I did have bacterial vaginosis after the birth of my child. I also have PCOS but my symtoms aside from irregular periods are v mild. I have become pregnanct easily.

It's not normal to lose blood clots for two weeks is it?
Sorry for the essay! I'm interested in any opinions Smile

I'm away at the mo but do intend to visit my doctor when I get back. I am finding bleeding for two weeks an extremely effective form of contraception so that's something Confused

Well, in the aftermath of childbirth periods can go seriously haywire, and this might be just one of those unexplained things. But if it keeps happening, then you need a proper gynae check up.

Conditions such as adenomyosis can cause heavy, clotty periods, but I don't know if that would crop up so quickly after childbirth (it's like endometriosis, but when it grows into uterine wall rather than in random places). Also fibroids can cause heavy periods, but again I don't know if that ever happens so soon after a baby.
