It can be pretty straight forward, my experience of it was not - bled for weeks and for much of that time the blood loss was astonishingly heavy, huge clots too. Found the clinic pretty unhelpful too (Marie Stopes Ealing) I was very freaked out.

That's probably not the norm though, but if I were ever to be in that position again I'd have surgical procedure. I think chemical termination is often wrongly considered the easier of the two.

oh crap. Its the Ealing Marie Stopes clinic. They are doing a scan monday but we're pretty sure its maybe 2-4 weeks along. (its not me by the way but dd, she's in a right old state and is flying to the US in 2 weeks). We are all freaking out.

Your poor DD (and you!).

I've had a MMC and had medical management for it - it's the same pill I think. It wasn't a very good experience at all - very painful and traumatic.

Additionally before any abortion can be carried out the clinic will need to see that the sac is in the womb (rather than ectopic) so she'll have to be about 5 weeks along, I think, before that can be seen so she may have to go back for another scan.

Hope all goes ok for you.

Oh no, I don't want to paint a terrible picture - I mean even though my experience wasn't great it was temporary and most importantly left me unpregnant!

I just wanted to mention what happened with me in case the reason for only asking about the pill was because you thought it more straight forward that's all.

I can't help with the pills, but in my case (5weeks) I opted for the surgical procedure as I just wanted it done and out if the way. The pill requires two visits and I couldn't get childcare for both. I also didn't want to waiting for it all to start, I left the clinic knowing I was no longer pregnant and already bleeding.

I didn't have any problems, had it without sedation - about ten seconds of discomfort and it was over.

Whatever she chooses make sure she looks after herself afterwards, I got quite run down afterwards and ended up picking up everything going around.

sounds like the surgical option is better. Thanks for all the advice. She is going to the clinic with good friends and I'm gutted I cant be with her but one of my others is having surgery next week (problems are like fucking buses arent they!)

They won't do a surgical abortion before about - not sure how many weeks but it's at least 5 and I think more like 7/9? Sorry, not much help but they have to be able to see that the baby has gone, on the scan iyswim?
Hope you are all Ok soon x

Your poor DD.

I've not had a termination but chose surgical management for a MMC and it really was fine and over quickly. Bleeding afterwards was ok and I was fine to get on with life as normal by the next day. This was at west mid so close to you? I chose this as my BFF had a medical termination not long before and found it very traumatic.

Thinking of your DD and hope it's all over quickly and she can get on with her life xxx

You have to be 5 + something for the tablets. 2 visits to clinic
My pain was horrendous, continuous contraction pain for 90 mins but stopped as sac passed. Bled v v heavily
However my friend found it ok... So it's individual

I had abortion pills to treat a MMC at about 8 weeks. 2 doses on 2 consecutive weeks, lots of bleeding and horribly painful contractions, failed to get all the "remains of conception" out and had D&C later anyway.

I would advise her to have sympathetic company stay with her on the day(s) she takes the pills, to help her through any contraction pains, and any emotional pain of course.

I also wanted to say that it is great that your DD is talking to you about this, and great that she thought to take MAP after whatever contraception failure took place.
