I trotted off to GP today & was given the Minipill but I've got 3 months worth to cover me while BF then she suggests I go for the coil but I'm scared about it being fitted

I've had 3. The last time the clinic said they were now using local anaesthetic which made a big difference, it was hardly painful at all just similar to having a smear a bit unpleasant that's all. I love them. The first one I had when I was 19 and it lasted 10 years no problem at all. I think it's a really easy method of birth control. HTH

Yes it's similar to having a smear but they need to wiggle about a little bit more and if it hurts (did for me, not terrible but knew it didnt need to) they can can put some local anaesthetic gel on. Again, highly recommend.

this explains the procedure

this has an animation showing the fitting of a mirena coil

I found the first part a bit uncomfortable (when using the sound to get the right depth) but the actual fitting was ok. I took pain relief beforehand which may have helped too
