Where is my period?!

n/c for this.
I forgot to pack my pill when we went on holiday in August, so decided to keep off it and use condoms instead. My periods were getting heavier and more uncomfortable so wanted to see if coming off the pill would improve that.

I haven't really taken notice of how often my periods came, until my last one because I was on for a significant date.

It's been 6 and half weeks since my period. I did a pregnancy test on Sunday which was negative and have spent the last 10 days feeling like I'm about to start but, nothing. I have also spent the last 10 days panicking that I might be pregnant. We have had sex 4 or 5 times since my last period, using a condom and not noticed or felt any problems.

I had been on the pill since I was 18 (now 42), apart from a 2 year break when we had ds.
I equate not having a period with being pregnant as it's ingrained from sex ed at school, but it just doesn't make sense - have I really been that unlucky that unbeknowst to us something went wrong with a condom and it just happened to be when i was ovulating? Or is there another explanation?
Any advice or information much appreciated.

Hi

I have been on the pill for a very large number of years. When I have stopped taking it, my period has always arrived after 4 weeks (this never happened before I went on the pill - it was all over the place then!).

It could be that you are perimenopausal, as you won't notice many changes whilst you are on the pill, so might be worth seeing the doctor for FSH test, and looking on the perimenopause threads. I am in the same position, but with no sign that there will ever be a period, so the menopause may have passed me by unnoticed............it is a strange limbo to be in.

We have a thread on the "Conception" board that is similar: a group of us who have had regular periods since coming off the pill and all of a sudden our period doesn't seem to be showing up (it's 7 weeks since I last had mine).

A few people have mentioned that it's normal to have an "off" cycle every now and again (especially if you're used to the pill that makes everything work like clockwork), so I wouldn't necessarily worry about being perimenopausal (I'm 32 and certainly hope that's not what it means!!!), it might just be a blip.

Thank you whiz and purple.
I did another test this evening as I was feeling sick at times during the day but still negative. I assume the sick feeling is anxiety...!
My next step was going to be seeing my GP to get some advice.
It's reassuring to know it's not unusual. I'll find the board Smile
