I gave birth 3 weeks ago and was told I couldn't get pregnant in the first 3 weeks post-birth and as I'm breast feeding it was unlikely after that. DH and I have had sex a couple of times this week and now I'm asking Dr. google and scaring myself that I could be pregnant again. As I say - the leaflet they have me after delivery says you can't get pregnant for the first 3 weeks not does anyone have any reassuring words?!!

I was told your chances of getting pregnant is higher in the first 6 weeks after birth. Also you should not rely on breast feeding as contraception, as you may conceive (sp?) first time you ovulate (sp?)

I'm at my gp tomorrow to sort out contraception but when I was told I couldn't get pregnant within the first 3 weeks I got a bit complacent. Confused was never planning on relying on BF for contraception

There has been a couple of threads here, where people have used bf as a form of contraception and got shouted at.

Discuss with doctor. But I've been told by doc, mw and Hv that your chances are higher in first six weeks. I ff so not sure if that makes a difference, maybe risk isn't as high when you bf. but your doc can tell you that.

Out if nosiness (sp?) what contraception are you thinking of going on? My son will be 9 weeks tomorrow and I'm still not on any as I don't know what to go on?

Thanks for your advice. :) I'm kicking myself as i was planning on waiting till i'd sorted contraception and after speaking to MW and HV who gave me leaflets which say, and who told me,we were safe till 21 days after birth we gave in and had sex and it wasn't till afterwards i started stressing and googling and finding that that might not be the case. Oh heck, i'm barely dealing with 1, i better not be having another just yet!

I'm planning on going on the mini-pill - i'd rather be on the combined pill tbh but the POP(mini) is better when BF.If not BF afaik you're fine with combined pill.

Well if your Mw and Hv said it was fine then you should hopefully be. I don't see why they would say otherwise.

www.askdrsears.com/topics/breastfeeding/faqs/breastfeeding-fertility .. on this website it says as long as you follow the guidelines right then you should be fine. Fingers crossed for you :)

I met someone at twins group who got pregnant again and had a second set 10 months later. No idea how she managed it!

Whiz that's crazy. Wonder how she coped, one set would be hard enough I'd say

Not sure she did TBH - husband had to give up his job and they could not afford a big enough car. They had a 5 yr old too.
