Family planning

Can I just get it all ripped out?

I'm sick of being a fertile woman. I have two kids, I 100% don't want any more, my hormones give me all sorts of trouble, periods are irregular and painful, my sex drive has gone as I am so scared of pregnancy, and we have early menopause in my family anyway.

Is there some way of bringing on the menopause? I thought that sterilisation could be an option, but apparently you still have periods, which would be utterly pointless - at least now I can console myself by being sure that I'm not pregnant.

Condoms break, the pill gets forgotten, implants would give me the heebie jeebies and DH getting the snip would still leave me with horrible periods. I have wanted to just get it all removed since I was 13, but I held back because I wanted kids, but seriously now, what is my reproductive system for, apart from making me petrified and causing me pain?

Have you spoken to your doctor? I know that if you are young they can be very reluctant to 'whip it all out'.

I've always had very heavy/painful periods and was really looking forward to the menopause too! Now that I am in peri-menopause I realise that it aint all it's cracked up to be, so be careful what you wish for.

I have hot flushes, night sweats, severe nausea, dry skin, odd hairs sprouting on my chin etc. To add insult to injury I am still getting periods. Heavy ones. Ones that go on for 3 weeks at a time. The only reason I'm still up at this time of night is because of insomnia caused by all the night sweats.

I hope your GP is able to offer you some help x

I was in a similar position.

Have you tried the mirena coil? I know some people have a total nightmare with it.
The first one I had was dire, v heavy periods, lots of pain etc, until it dislodged and I had to remove it myself.
A couple of years later I tried it again (after accidently having ds3) and it has been fantastic, I don't really have periods at all so no pain. It may have made me put on a little weight but given how much cake I eat it is hard to tell.
