grin

Are any of your dcs doing an audition for the National Children's orchestra this month?

Dd (9) is trying for the under 11s orchestra. It is her first audition and she is violinist.

She is desperate to get in and I am hoping for the best for her! smile

Yes, my ds is also auditioning for the first time. He is the same age as your dd and same instrument! Good luck!

Good luck to you both, my dd is the same age and instrument and isn't auditioning.
It's supposed to be really good.
I'm not sure my dd would like the residential and it all seems to be about this when I looked at the website and she prefers weekly rehearsals and concerts.

A lovely pupil of mine plays in the NCO, she loves it!smile Good luck to all!!smile

Yes dd (8) auditioned yesterday on cello - lovely people and very efficient set up. Think it's a very long shot for dd esp as she played hard (for her) pieces but she was so keen to do it - at the very least a very good experience and the feedback is supposed to be very helpful. Good luck to everyone smile

Gampy, if it's her first audition and she's 9 she's eligible for training orchestra as well.

Good luck!

Maggie - she turns 10 before Dec. I don't know if that means she could get a place in either orchestra?

I too thought the audition process was excellent - we arrived, she went up, 15 mins later she arrived back looking happy!

Good luck everyone - mine has just re-auditioned for next year, she had a great time at the residential in the Summer and is desperate to get in again for next year.

Dd is auditioning next week. She's been an associate member this year and has absolutely loved the regional rehearsals.

She's desperate to get in again as she has loved the experience, let's hope her audition goes well, I find it very nerve wracking! smile

What pieces did your DD play Gampy?

DarkHorse2013 Mon 14-Oct-13 07:00:23

My DD is re auditioning this week. Has been in since she was 9 and loved it! Auditioning for the last time now - quite sad.
Good luck to everyone - fingers crossed!

La Folia, Corelli (not all of it!) and an old grade 6 piece. What about yours?

noteventhebestdrummer Tue 15-Oct-13 07:13:06

Wow those sound like big pieces! Guessing from the Corelli she's done Suzuki?

GampyWabbit Tue 15-Oct-13 20:38:12

Yes Suzuki! Is yours Suzuki trained too?

noteventhebestdrummer Tue 15-Oct-13 20:54:45

A long time ago, yes! I have 5 sons who played violin with NCO but these days they are all grown up, youngest is 16 now, plays violin with Hallé Youth as well as doing other musical things.

maggiethecat Tue 15-Oct-13 22:51:30

Gampy, not sure - she may be under 11 then.
Love La Folia, beautiful piece - best wishes to your dd.

GampyWabbit Tue 15-Oct-13 23:30:41

Me too Maggie grin. I am mighty proud of her, whatever the outcome of this audition smile

maggiethecat Wed 16-Oct-13 22:24:37

Dd had hers today - she was not happy with her sightreading. Think she took it for granted since last year was a breeze for her but she perhaps overlooked fact that it's a higher lever orchestra (under 11's) this year.
Now that I think of it, the performance by the Under 11's at the gala concert this year was stunning for children of their age.
I've told her that she has done good work and she can be pleased with that.

DS enjoyed his audition earlier this week and came home buzzing from the experience. However he is a bit daunted by the thought of a residential course without knowing anyone...will cross that bridge as and when needed. Good luck all!

maggiethecat Sun 27-Oct-13 18:12:07

Popcorn, as long as he is not too daunted about being away from home he should be fine. It seems as if it's a great social experience and staff are good at the pastoral aspects. Dd only knew one person on the course and shared a room with 3 other girls and came back telling us of the things they got up to. It was clear that everyone had a very strong interest in music.

GampyWabbit Mon 28-Oct-13 16:02:04

Will it definitely be dec that we hear the outcome of the audition?

maggiethecat Tue 29-Oct-13 09:37:04

Yes Gampy. Probably about first week.

GampyWabbit Fri 06-Dec-13 22:48:21

Dd got a place in under 11s orchestra with violin grin. Very happy for her!!

Anyone else had results?

DarkHorse2013 Fri 06-Dec-13 22:57:53

GampyWabbit Congratulations to your daughter - I hope she really enjoys it! My daughter has to wait until next week to find out as she's currently in U13s and auditioned for Main, and they don't get to find out until after this weekend's concert! Stress!

PopcornPizza Fri 06-Dec-13 23:13:20

Well done Gampy's dd! Ds got into Training Orchestra and is thrilled with no signs of nerves about the course yet. Has anyone's dc experience of Regional orchestra?

GampyWabbit Fri 06-Dec-13 23:34:02

Yay, well done to him!

Any info about the regional rehearsals and residential course would be greatly appreciated!

maggiethecat Sun 08-Dec-13 21:56:31

Darkhorse, I imagine that you attended the concert, how was it? The excerpt that I heard (Sibellius) sounded amazing!

DarkHorse2013 Mon 09-Dec-13 00:14:17

Only just got home, and the concert was amazing, hard to believe they are all so young and yet produce that standard of music! Sounds like they all had a wonderful weekend too - now we just need a good week with a nice YES for Main - fingers crossed......

maggiethecat Mon 09-Dec-13 01:03:09

Definitely fingers (and toes) crossed for you! Dd played in another orchestra and they played Finlandia this year and while it was haunting, joyful, rousing etc, the excerpt of the NCO version on the website sounded AMAZING.
Agree -it is difficult to remember how young these children are.
Glad you enjoyed it, shame we do not live down south anymore or else I would have been at southbank.

Grayt1234 Mon 09-Dec-13 11:43:00

Do you know if all under 11s letters went out last week? My dd auditioned and we haven't heard anything yet. She's 9. Hope this doesn't mean it's bad news...

maggiethecat Mon 09-Dec-13 11:51:56

don't know but would think it depends on post - we got ours on saturday morning so your letter could be on its way this morning if you haven't already got your post today.
good luck!

Grayt1234 Mon 09-Dec-13 13:00:22

Thanks, maggiethecat! Nothing in today's post so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

GampyWabbit Mon 09-Dec-13 14:14:55

We got our offer for under 11 on Friday, but others at our music school (who are more advanced than dd, hadn't yet heard). Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news for you.

Lilly2013 Thu 11-Dec-14 00:49:08

My daughter auditioned for the first time and got into the under 10 Orchestra. Can you do the course and be non residential?

Wafflenose Fri 12-Dec-14 12:13:11

The FAQs on the website say no, as a rule. But they will consider it in the case of complex medical issues or similar.

My DD will be there. Nearer the time, we could get them to look out for each other, if that will be helpful?

janet41 Mon 15-Dec-14 08:53:51

Lilly - dd also under 10s and happy to join up. Wafflenose - I think you are I SW from you other posts re swms? We spend most of the holidays in Devon (near exeter)if you ever want a coffee meet up ahead of the summer

Wafflenose Mon 15-Dec-14 14:34:35

Excellent janet - I will message you.
