DS1 (7) has shown an interest in learning the piano, but as I used to play I'm planning on starting him off at home myself. I wasn't a brilliant player (peaked at grade 5) but know enough, I think, to help a complete beginner.
We're currently working through John Thompson's piano course book 1 and I've said we'll sort out lessons if he still likes it (and practices most days) after we've finished the second book.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan, or could I be teaching him bad habits?
It seems to be going well so far. I'm making sure he is using the correct fingers for each note as marked in the book, and am encouraging him to sit up straight, with wrists up and shoulders down. Other than that, I'm just sticking getting the rights notes in the right order and the right timing!
If there are any piano teachers out there, I'd be grateful for any helpful tips! I will pay a teacher at some point, honest.....
Thank you!
