Easy piano book recommendation

Dd3 started piano a few months ago, she loves it and is making very good progress. Just finishing off Book 2 of the beginners book then she is doing the Prep test with her teacher this term and possibly Grade 1 next summer.

Can anyone recommend some good books with easy pieces she could play now? Preferably with some familiar tunes she will know. Thanks.

We have 'met' before on a few of your threads!

I'll have a think, and come back in a few days.

I know a lot of people say don't bother with the Prep test, but I guess it does build confidence.

As it's coming up to Christmas why not try her on Piano Time Carols which is roughly equivalent to Piano Time Pieces Book 1 which I'd also recommend.

Upgrade 0-1 (Pam Wedgwood) is a good lead up to grade 1. Not familiar tunes though but my students enjoy playing them.

At a slightly more advanced level Grade 1 Piano Solos is part of a new series by Chester Music and has music from classical to Disney and the Beatles.

You could also, look at buying the Trinity Initial Grade books from the current syllabus or past ones as these have many charming pieces at slightly harder than Prep Test level.

I like the Kenneth Baker Piano books - there are several 'teaching' books, but also repertoire books of most styles and genres. Try and search the whole range, to see what DD might like.

This is a site I came across recently, and is worth exploring:

After she has done her practice, she might like to relax with this:

(How are your older DDs getting on? Is one learning violin now?)

I am impressed with your memory ferguson Smile

Yes, middle dd has started violin, found a lovely teacher who comes to our home. She's making steady progress and seems to be enjoying it. Think it will take a while though to get a really good sound.

Back to piano, not keen on carols, dd doesn't really know them. I was thinking more along the lines of Disney.

Memory not really THAT good, but I cheat - doing MN 'Search' with both our names!

Here's one Disney piano book, but there are plenty more if you Google:

And depending on how 'purist' regarding their music you are, they can try to 'play along' with CD or DVDs of shows; once they locate the key for a piece they can play notes that fit in - it doesn't have to the the original melody.

No advice on books but well done, such a quick progress at such a tender age!
