Out if curiosity is there a reason he's learning on a C clarinet which is quite rare fir beginners?

DS2 did G1 with ABRSM in March. He has a B flat clarinet. He played the pieces as written and they sounded fine; he got a distinction (non-stealth boast).

pictures it's not rare to start on a clarineo - they are designed for smaller/younger players. Bizarrely they need more puff though! A clarineo is acceptable for grades 1-3, the pupil plays as written but you need to transpose the accompaniment parts.
