Help, don't have piano accompaniment for exam.

My DS is doing Grade 6 trumpet with Trinity in a couple of weeks and we discovered at the weekend that he doesn't have the piano accompaniment for his second piece. (The Enchanted Trumpet, Vizzutti.)

It didn't occur to me that the book would not include the piano accompaniment - I bought exactly what the teacher told me to buy.

I have called the Trinity shop and they don't have any copies of the piano accompaniment in stock. They have them on order, but they might not arrive in time for the rehearsal or exam. I have called a couple of other sheet music suppliers and they are also out of stock and have it on order. I have ordered it from one of them said that I will come and collect it when they get it in, but again, it might not be in time.

Is there anything else I can do? Or even better (very long shot) does anyone here have it and could I borrow it?

Try the publishers direct.

Is it this ? although you may want to check if it has an accompaniment, not all pieces do.

Dh is a trumpet teacher. He doesn't have it. I spent half an hour trying to look through his music. He walks in the door and I ask him if he has this piece and he says no...he must have his music catalogue memorised!

He will ask amongst his colleagues. Bit naughty of the teacher. He/she should have told you the piano accompaniment comes separately.

Any Examiners? They have a full set given by the board.

The publisher might agree to give you an authorised photocopy while you wait for a proper copy to arrive?

While you are waiting to get hold it, I would recommend that your DS listens to some recordings so that he is at least familiar with the sound of the accompaniment, and could perhaps try playing along.

I am slightly baffled - has the teacher not been doing the piano part with him? Who was meant to be playing the piano? Has the teacher not got the accompaniment book?

Is he taught privately or through LEA.

If LEA you could ask for any local teachers/ students having taken the exam already.
I would call them its worth a try.
My dh keeps all his pupils old pieces if they don't want them. Unfortunately wrong instrument.
I found accompaniment for several of dds pieces on youtube, also worth a try until you get the hard copy.

Thank you everyone.

My son is taught by a private teacher at his secondary school, so I don't really see the teacher, just get messages from my son, emails and texts as needed. I'm not sure if the teacher has been doing the accompaniment with him or not. He's sent my son home with a photocopy but unfortunately he will need the real thing for the rehearsal and exam. The rehearsal will be with an accompanist provided by the school and I've been told that he'll need a proper copy (not photocopy) for the rehearsal and exam.

A CD came with the trumpet music so my son can listen to the accompaniment. To be honest my exasperation is with the exam board (Trinity) which has their own on-line shop with each exam piece listed under the syllabus for each instrument and grade so that you can just click on the chosen pieces and get them sent to you. It seems mad to me that they would send you just the trumpet music and then say that they don't have any copies of the accompaniment when they require people taking their exam to bring it with them.

I have ordered it on ebay as suggested, although the estimated delivery date (having paid extra for first class) is 4 December and I also have it on order with another sheet music supplier.

Thanks for the advice to try the publisher. I shall do that next. (I shall probably end up with multiple copies now)! I'm also going to see if the music department at my son's school have a proper copy lying around.

I'd try the music department at the school, and then I'd ring the county/LEA music service to get the names of other local trumpet teachers and ask them.

Providing music without the accompaniment was actually seen as a Good Thing when it began. It was seen as a way to make things cheaper for people. I agree it all falls apart if the teacher hasn't invested in one copy of the accompaniment.

The sheet music supplier have emailed me to say that they don't have it but "the item is on order from the publisher".

I have asked the music department at my son's school if they can see if they have a copy.

I have now ordered a copy direct from the publisher (I think they are German?) I now have three copies on order and an SOS out at the music department so must surely get something soon?

Hopefully you will. :)

I found out last night the DD1 lost her part for one of her grade 8 pieces months ago and she has been 'working' from the piano score ever since (in fact she knows it off by heart). She didn't bother to tell me because she knows it off by heart. Which isn't the point because she should still have her music JUST IN CASE. I would have been a whole lot more furious (the exams next week) if I didn't also, as it happens, have the relevant piece in my own music store.
