Sunday NYRO playing day in Brum?

The youngest is going ( and auditioning for the summer). Should be fun!

No, it's too far away for us, but we went to the South West one a couple of months ago, and had a great time. DD wanted me to buy her the hoodie, and I told her I might think about it if she ever gets in! Right now, she is Grade 4 and far too young, but wants to audition in a few years, so we might even get to meet you one day! Good luck to your DD.

DD1 going to one of the others, will be her first one. Not auditioning for summer as bad timing.

Well it was a great day! DS is probably a teeny bit jealous he didn't go....

Small numbers but bigger group playing with 2 or 3 to a part was good. 3 beginners did some " red hot recorder" bits (aww!) and the older, better 4 players did several quite hard stuff really well including some of the staeps seiben flutentanze etc. I'd say the better players were all 14-16 maybe?

Audition " OK" sight reading fiendish apparently.

Fingers crossed for your DD. How long before they let them know?

They normally let you know within a couple of days.

We are seriously considering giving up Dd1s place though, having checked out the train times and costs. It was Bad (with a very capital B) last year, but this year it appears to be almost impossible, logistically and financially. Dd1 is far too young to travel on her own from one end of the country to the other, with multiple changes, so I would have to go with her to at least Crewe (and coming back, I'd have to go all the way to Rhyl, and bring her back). The cost of the trains is significantly more than last year. Significantly more. And timetable changes mean that it will be impossible to get home on the final day unless she skips some or all ofthe concert (and our experience of the trains last year, with missed connections and cancelled trains, makes me very wary of relying on that 'last possible train' option anyway). So - I don't know. If she doesn't pull out we will probably end up spending as much again on trains and a hotel room in London on the Saturday night. I don't have that sort of money spare, really. And if I did I think I might be spending it on a new instrument for her (she needs upgraded treble, tenor and bass, and we need a new piano too - obviously c£400 would cover all that but on the other hand it's not scotch mist either). :(

Russians it's stupidly placed location isn't it! We are at least midlands based so driving over is fine.

Have you asked if there is anyone else ( or even a tutor) travelling from your area? When DD1 did NYRO back in the mists of time ( 2005?) it was at Gateshead and I took her on the train to somewhere and there was a grioup of them travelling onwards.

Theas - the getting back is the real issue. Getting there, I could dump her at Crewe or indeed at Euston. that would be fine, there would be a group of them, they are being met at Rhyl, she's done the journey before so she's confident. Coming back? Different story. The trains just aren't there. Literally - the last train that gets you back here goes from Rhyll at 5:12. And last year, when there was a later train and we were staying overnight in London anyway, that trian was subject to horrendous delays and SNAFUS. Imagine if that happened this year? Missing the connection in somewhere sordid like Crewe doesn't bear thinking about, it really doesn't. :(

Well she got into NYRO which is great in it's self but also something/somewhere that isn't in the shadow of the elder 2. Go small one!
