Horse Riding in London

Can anyone advise me please? Do you know a not very expensive riding school in or near London. We have used Westway Riding Stables, but my daughter, 9 is now more advanced for the classes they offer. Hyde Park Stables are prohibitively expensive for us.

I don't know where you live, but you could try Ridgway Riding Stables in Wimbledon, or Wimbledon Village Stables. Alternatively, there's the Kingston Riding Centre in Richmond.

dd (8) rides at Ridgway in Wimbledon - they have a pony club on Saturdays which dd loves - an hour's hack on the common followed by an hour's grooming and mucking out - they also do courses during half-terms and holidays which are heavily subsidised by Merton council

there's also a riding school at Deen City Farm in Colliers Wood, but I've never managed to get through to them - their lessons are very cheap for London but consequently the waiting list is about a mile long

We ride at Trent Park (note my nickname) and really love it. Accessible by tube. All levels of horses and ponies. Very friendly instructors. Lessons and hacking with no roadwork plus pony days. Find out when they are least busy for lessons on the weekends as it is very popular. Rightly so.

Akiko what did you and your daughter think of Westway? I was thinking of taking my son as its local to us, but the website has no info, prices or anything!

Westway is very handy and good for younger children. Very competitive prices: £ 19 for half an hour. I am not sure about the more advanced as the space is quite small and no park nearby for hacking. Its worth checking if you are nearby, sometimes you may just turn up and get in without booking or paying for a course.

Willow Tree Riding Stables near Hither Green South London charge £10 per 1/2 hour group lesson, but also have a club for older kids - only ride in a menage though. V. good value and teaching for the money.

Reigniting an old thread - I took my ds for what I thought was a half hour lesson at westway last week. £28 to ride the horse on residential roads - no teaching whatsoever, the helper barely spoke to ds.

I must admit I didn't book it myself so my mum may have made an error when booking and asked for a pony ride rather than a lesson, but £28 for half an hour's pootling on roads - I was unimpressed.
