I would like dd to join but except for the first aid element, what do they do?

I used to go when I was younger (although talking 20yrs ago now when I joined cadets and then carried on for a while in the adult division). We did first aid courses which lasted several weeks to cover all the topics. We did a 'nursing' kind of course where we learnt about taking care of someone ill and it included things like how to change bed sheets with someone lying in bed, how to bed bath etc. We had a uniform and sometimes had a uniform parade. The local ambulance service was involved in the group and we would take part in activities with them and sometimes the fire service as well - doing things like fire safety and simulated accident scenes where we all took turns to be the casualty.
Aside from this the group used to go to local events to provide first aid cover. I can't remember how old I was when I went to my first event but I was not very old (?12/13)

The cadets in our area do loads. Camping, sports days competitons. Plus they have to do badges covering a wide range of topics to work towards their grand prior. They do do a lot more than just first aid now, although that is obviously a major part of it.

Thanks

Sound like fun, dd going to try out lifesaving tonight, so might have to put Cadets off for a short time. She's only 9 so plenty of time to start plus lifesaving will teach her some basic first aid which is the part I'd like her to do.

I run a cadet unit. Our cadets are currently learing about photography, but there are over 70 different courses that they can do. A few are to do with first aid, but actually the majority are more about personal development and helping in the community. Why don't you pop down with her and have a chat to the leader? Watch out though, I used to be 'just a Mum' and now I run it!

Thanks gabgit.

We have just filled in all her membership form and in the 1/2 term she did her first 6 hrs voluntarily work which she loved. DD been told to put the hours in her log book which we don't have yet so that the next thing dd's looking forwards too. DD also can't wait for her uniform who long till she gets that.

Using smart phone so try my best to avoid typos.

No, 12 is fine. I think I was about that age when I joined. It might have changed, but when I was a teenager, most of the cadets seemed to be early to mid teens, rather than younger children.

Do they repeat the same sorts of activities every year?
