Hi all!

Tomorrow, Weds 16th Oct, is, I believe, ten weeks until Christmas! I have definitely put on a few pounds over the summer, I'm unfit, generally a little untoned and my eating habits could do with more fresh stuff and less sugar! cake I also have tons of beauty products claiming to work miracles lining my shelves, but never find the time to use them! lazy

So, I want to use this thread to do a bit of a Christmas Countdown... If you'd like to join me in generally just bettering yourself or your routine then please do grin You can choose which area you want to work on, or try a little bit of all-round life enhancement like I am!

All diets/exercise routines welcome - whatever works for you - I know some people like WW or SW or Paleo, some like zumba and classes while others like to run or shred. I think as long as we're all doing it together and encouraging each other then we'll get there just fine!

So, my three kick-start targets:

1) Start a C25k plan (currently thinking the Zombies Run one looks good!).
2) Start cleansing and moisturising before bed.
3) Keeping sweet treats to the weekend only and try to eat 'clean' in the week.

I am hoping as these things become second nature that I add more things to my targets as the week progresses.

So, who's in with me?! grin

futureforward Tue 15-Oct-13 11:18:04

Bump

EauRouge Tue 15-Oct-13 11:29:08

I'm planning to shred in November. Not sure how to combine it with running though, I am only doing 5k 3 times a week at the moment but planning to build it up gradually. Has anyone else combined running and shredding?

I've no plans to change my diet, it's already pretty healthy. I do need to start moisturising or doing something with my skin though, especially if I start the shred. I'm allergic to my own sweat (now there's an excuse not to exercise grin ) and I get awful, itchy dry skin in places.

futureforward Tue 15-Oct-13 11:58:57

Hello and welcome Eau!

I am sure I have seen before on here lots of people combine the shred and running, so hopefully if this catches the eye of someone they may be able to tell you how they manage it. That said, 5k three times a week? I think that's already pretty impressive - it's where I would love to be at the end of this ten weeks. smile

You've made a good point re itchy and dry skin. I was only thinking about the skin on my face but now it's getting colder and the heating is coming on my legs get terribly dry in winter... I will try to put a dollop of moisturiser on my legs after cleansing at night and then hopefully wake up to lovely soft legs, well I can dream!!

nightshade1 Tue 15-Oct-13 12:50:43

can I join you?
im feeling rather pants about myself and my fitness at the moment
see my thread : where to start? (cant get it to link its just crashing the page when I try hmm )

im trying to get brave enough to start the c25k and I do own a dusty copy of the shred somewhere
please give me a boot up my ample backside smile

EauRouge Tue 15-Oct-13 13:08:51

I possibly should have mentioned that my 5k is always slow and painful grin I would love to be faster and I've tried to keep up with various other exercise (especially weights) but I need something with structure, otherwise I just don't bother. I'm hoping the shred will make me a bit faster and give me the boot I need to enter a 10k.

I did C25K earlier on this year, it's fantastic and doable even if your fitness level is close to zero.

futureforward Tue 15-Oct-13 14:06:43

Yes of course nightshade, welcome to the fold! I will have a look for your thread. I have started the c25k a few times in the past and the first couple of weeks are very gentle as an introduction, so don't worry too much about plucking up the courage. I must say though, I never made it past about week 3 as I lost interest (naughty!) The reviews for the Zombie one say it's a great way to keep interested in the plan though, hence I'm hoping for great things!

Crappyoldframe Tue 15-Oct-13 14:08:05

I'm in, though I'm broken at the moment so no training. Sticking with the diet though!

futureforward Tue 15-Oct-13 14:34:17

Sounds like a plan! I think sometimes it's good not to take too much on in one go as it just means a greater likelihood of being overwhelmed by all your new "must do's" and rules and not sticking to it all! Slow and steady does the trick is my new motto smile

nightshade1 Tue 15-Oct-13 14:37:34

I have new running shoes! that's a start right???

futureforward Tue 15-Oct-13 15:22:36

Yep that definitely counts!! grin

McPie Tue 15-Oct-13 16:35:38

I think I will join you as its got to the point where weight loss has slowed for me and I really need to go back to the basics of my eating plan. So Irn Bru and smoked sausage are going to have to be limited and I need to make sure I get all 8 of my fruit and veg each day more often than I do at the moment.
Exercise wise I am doing well, 4 metafits, 3 body balance, 3 kettlercise 2 boxfit, 2 body combat, a body pump, a body jam and a spin class each week along with running on the treadmill and my new weights plan set by my boxfit instructor. Yes it's a lot but I have been working up to this level for the last 13 months and most of it is done when the kids are at school or in bed saving me from planting myself infront of the tv eating crap!
I want to increase the amount of time I can run for on a treadmill (5/6 mins just now) before I try and run outside which I am looking to start doing in the spring as there is talk of doing the Scottish half marathon in september as well as Tough Mudder again in June and I would like to finish quicker than the 5 hours I did this year grin.

Makingmama Tue 15-Oct-13 16:45:53

Oh I'll join you! I'm at a static weight and very wobbly. Want to lose 5kg and tone up a lot. I did start running recently, but due to a 3 week illness I'm starting from scratch again. Will do the C25K and the 30DS to start then want to move up to 5K210K and 6 pack in 6 weeks...think that takes me up to Xmas nicely....yes I'm very ambitious, just need a lot of motivation to actually start and then somehow actually stick to it!

Diet wise my eating has gone rapidly downhill as husband has been working away for 4 weeks and is still away for another 6. Going to try and do no snacking, hight protein low carb meals and lots of water. Good luck! <<<runs off to eat that last bar of Lindt>>>

futureforward Tue 15-Oct-13 23:09:49

Welcome!! Yes make sure you eat all of that chocolate before bed tonight! I went shopping earlier and didn't buy anything resembling chocolate or ice cream so am very proud of myself!!

Makingmama Wed 16-Oct-13 11:18:15

McPie shock wow you are managing a lot! Well done! Are you very toned now?

So far so good, did shred after my morning coffee. Then spent the last 3 hours running around after my 5, 4 and 2 and 1/2 year old dcs in the pool etc...so that surely has helped as has worn me out! Going to a bbq this afternoon so no doubt will be in a pool again with the dcs.

Oh and the Lindt was SO good, but not going to have a bar that big to myself ever again!

futureforward Wed 16-Oct-13 13:53:03

Hello everyone! So, the ten week countdown is officially ON!! How are you getting on today? Are there any new folk who'd like to join us?!

So far so good for me today, had healthy lunch (home made chicken and sweet corn soup) and going to do my first run after work. Quite excited to see what the zombies have in store for me!! Well done on your morning shred Making!! smile

futureforward Wed 16-Oct-13 15:03:36

Just bumping to see if anyone else fancies joining us! smile

I'll join. I want to shred every day then keep to around 1700 cals per day (mfp). Ideally loose 1 stone by Xmas. I will shred tonight when dh puts dd to bed.

SW spag bol for tea tonight so that's healthy.

McPie Wed 16-Oct-13 16:36:46

Makingmama not even in the slightest sadly sad, I started at 15 1/2 stone and have lost 4 stone but still have to lose 17lb before the nurse will class me as healthy.
I have empty sacks for boobs and my stomach is very wrinkly and deflated but I now manage to fit into a size 12 which is something I never thought I could achieve when I started. I also have quite a small waist which has surprised some people, incliding the MIL who stated at the start I would never stick to it to someone she works with who I am very close to!
I can hold my own boxing against the big blokes and my Boxfit instructor, he was willing to give up his free time to write me up a weights plan and walk me round everything which must mean he doesn't think I'm that much of a lost cause grin.
I bought some Irn Bru earlier but it was a little diddy baby bottle not a can or a big bottle for a change. My problem is that I think that as I do so much a little treat won't hurt and before I know it I have had about 3 or 4 of them in the space of the day. My eating plan worked so well for me at the start and my energy levels are through the roof because I'm eating a healthy diet for a change but I really do need to go back to basics and not cheat and the next 10 weeks sound like a perfect excuse to do so.

Makingmama Wed 16-Oct-13 17:00:22

WOW McPie what an inspiration you are! You've achieved so much and you must be so proud of yourself smile I'm going to put my trainers and weights out ready so I do the shred first thing again.

futureforward Wed 16-Oct-13 23:10:38

Ok, my first zombie chase down, it was good fun,

Welcome glen, were you able to shred tonight? I have just cleansed and moisturised so feeling happy I can tick that off! My diet wasn't terrible but not great in the end, I do confess to munching down a few biscuits after dinner - oops!

Mcpie I agree with Making, you are an inspiration! That is an incredible weight loss, well done. Also I am impressed by your fitness too smile

amateurcynic Wed 16-Oct-13 23:36:59

Hello everyone, please can I join? Would love to lose a stone by Christmas but trying to go slow and steady so we'll see. Using MFP and completed Lev1D7 of the shred today.

Biggest shock for me since counting calories has been olive oil! I used to chuck it on EVERYTHING... no more.

MerylStrop Wed 16-Oct-13 23:43:08

I need a stone off and to be generally in better nick by Christmas

I lost a stone (and one and a half dress sizes) over summer with 5:2ing and swimming 3 times per week. Its all gone to hell in a handcart since back to work and school groundhogness....

So...
1. no more diet coke. or undecaffeinated coffee. gallons of water instead
2. I've managed to lay off the carbs but still desperate for sweet things. so no more sugar, break the habit
3. 3 swims per week minimum, and yoga at least once per week
4. Try running. At least one attempt
5. 5:2 next week, and maybe 4:3 the week after if all else is well in the world

futureforward Thu 17-Oct-13 07:49:11

Good morning and welcome cynic and Meryl!! Really happy that we have got a nice bunch of us together, it's always good to check in for support!

Which I need quite a lot today, our weighing scales have always been in kg (never bothered to change them!) Well, I have just worked out my weight in stones and I am shock. Afraid to say it's the heaviest I've ever been. DH asked me what it was and I wouldn't tell him!

So, renewed momentum from me this morning. I have to get this under control before Christmas and indeed the festive season. I think I will take measurements today so I can see how I progress as the inches come off.

Makingmama Thu 17-Oct-13 08:43:40

future what's the zombie chase down? And try not to focus on the weight, I found making smaller targets e.g. focus on 7 lbs at a time helps not to overwhelm me.
Hi amateur have you noticed any changes yet up to day 7 with the shred?
meryl I also have a very sweet tooth, that's my big downfall...but going to try try try to curb it.
Have just done L1D2 of the shred, I was aching quite a bit after yesterday but managed to get through it once I'd warmed up a bit. It's nearly lunchtime and I haven't eaten anything yet so going to have eggs with salad and a chicken soup so I'll hopefully not need to snack before dinner. have a good day smile

Chopstheduck Thu 17-Oct-13 08:56:26

<<peeks head around corner>>

Hello girls!

I started the year about 5-6 stone overweight. I've lost 4 stone, 4 dress sizes, and 10" from my waist, learned to run, and generally much fitter.

BUT I really would love to -
1) lose a stone and get down to a normal BMI by the end of the year
2) get my 5k time down to 30 minutes

I would really really recommend the c25k plan though, I started that at the beginning of the year, and love running now. I really found it hard to start with, the first run I practically crawled up the drive at the end, couldn't even manage the 5 minute cool down. It is amazing how quick you do build stamina on it.

I recently ditched my small gym membership for a lovely posh one with all the classes etc, so have so far tried Spinning and Bodyattack. I loved Spinning, but after the Bodyattack yesterday I actually really do ache for the first time in ages so I think that probably gave me more of a workout.

Today the kids are off school due to strikes, so we are off ice skating!

Good luck to everyone, we can do this!

Chopstheduck Thu 17-Oct-13 08:57:53

Oh and I don't have a sweet tooth, but I love junk food - burgers, chips, etc. blush I haven't really been watching what I eat so much, as I do burn a lot of calories off through exercise, but I need to be more disciplined if I am going to do this by Xmas.

McPie Thu 17-Oct-13 09:13:25

Its the October holidays here and I'm 7 classed down due to instructors being off so the earliest a class has started has been my metafits at 12 the last 2 days, normally 9.30. I am struggling so much to get motivated in the mornings as I have nowhere but the gym to go to and I can rock up to that at anytime as its literally just over the road.
I need it to be monday so I can get my structure back, as well as depositing the noisy kids back in the hands of their teachers grin.
Thank god for DS1, he is amazing with the DT's and lets me get out
when I need to for the price of a few late nights on the xbox smile.
Have had my only caffinated coffee for the day, I've been told by my family not to drop that one as when I did they got scared grin, and french toast (3 slice of wheat free bread and 2 eggs dry fried) and will have some fat free greek yoghurt with a banana and some honey then get dressed for the gym.
This morning I plan to run for about 30 mins (when I say run I'm still on intervals so will walk 2 1/2, climb 2 1/2 then run 5 and repeat trying to increase the run time) them will do my chest weights and maybe abs or biceps instead of triceps as they still hurt from the first time I done them on sunday. Legs will be done for the first time on saturday and even though I have been doing body pump for 13 months I have been told to wait until the weekend and to expect hell on earth and after the tricep pain lasting all this week I'm scared!

futureforward Thu 17-Oct-13 10:07:29

Making, well, it is a chase down by Zombies but I wrote it as in "one zombie chase down and however many more to go!" It's essentially a couch to 5k app, but unlike the others, a story is woven around it, you are Runner 5 in the deserted township of Abel, you get messages and challenges 'communicated' to you via your 'headset'. Like I say I've only done the first one but thought it was brilliantly executed. It was £1.99 from the App Store. Tip- do it in daytime as it definitely has potential to spook as it grows darker in the evenings!!

Hello hello and welcome to the party Chops! Wow another inspiration for us! It's great to hear of people who have taken to the gym classes and persisted with the 5k apps. It's nice to know it does get better smile

I've found that low carb works best for me so dinner tonight will be fish and veg with cheesy cauliflower mash. Then some Greek yogurt with a dash of honey while we catch up on yesterday's Corrie! Mmm can't wait!

MerylStrop Thu 17-Oct-13 10:17:34

I think the zombie app sounds like it might actually make running more fun....or take my mind of the pain and how I must look to innocent passers by

amateurcynic Thu 17-Oct-13 14:13:38

Thanks for the welcome future! Zombie app sounds equal parts motivating and terrifying! I would definitely be too much of a wuss to do it after dark.

Makingmama - I don't think I've lost any or much weight yet, although trying not to weigh myself until Sat as I get a bit obsessive otherwise. However I feel much fitter and more toned. My arms and legs are getting more defined and my DP told me a couple of days ago I was getting a mini six pack under my boobs! Still have flabby tummy beneath sadly.

futureforward Thu 17-Oct-13 15:06:44

I'd really recommend it. The storyline sounds interesting too so I'm really intrigued to see what happens next. My knees are feeling sore today though!

thekitchenfairy Thu 17-Oct-13 15:38:55

Hello! Can I join in?
Took my lazy arse down the gym yesterday and set myself a few pre Xmas targets without realising it is only 10 weeks away! I used to run 4x week and train with weights but 6mths of FT work has not been great. So I am back on it. And 5 booze free days every week. But how I do love my evening reward of a large glass of wine! And I am really in need of motivation!
And what is this Shred of which you speak? Does it work?

Chopstheduck Thu 17-Oct-13 15:56:29

McPie, maybe you should start with lower weights? I think a bit of aching is fine, but pain all week sounds a bit extortionate, especially as you must already be fairly fit from doing body pump. Good luck with it though smile

I've not had any aching from doing weights, though bodyattack left me slightly sore. I have huge calf muscles from running which are prone to stiffness. I really want to go for a run to stretch them out, but have to pick up dt1 from a friends and then it will probably get too dark.

I rather like the sound of that zombie app! Sounds like fun, and keeping your mind off the running is a great tactic.

I lvoe wine too sad Prob my biggest downfall really. I tend to drink around twice times a week, but once the bottle is opened it HAS to be finished blush

Chopstheduck Thu 17-Oct-13 15:57:37

thekitchenfairy shred is available on youtube, take a look. It is a pretty good workout, I've done it a few times on non run days, but never really wanted to commit to following it properly. Lots of people swear by it though.

MerylStrop Thu 17-Oct-13 18:16:16

Ok so today was a disaster. Almost like posting on this thread was a signal to myself to go and eat beans and chips (for lunch) and a whole load of handmade pork pies at the bakery project that I work at. It was all yummy. But I will ditch the self reproach and start again tomorrow!

Makingmama Thu 17-Oct-13 19:35:48

I love the sound of the zombie app, def. going to take a look! Sounds very amusing grin

kitchenfairy 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels, do check it out so many people rave about it (I've only just started).
meryl as you say tomorrow is a new day so forget about today <<<says I who's had candy floss and ice-cream at the park today>>> blush

Chopstheduck Thu 17-Oct-13 19:56:37

Totm for me so I can't stop eating neither! And I'm sat here with wine now!

Body combat tomorrow tho so hopefully burn some off.

McPie Thu 17-Oct-13 20:03:25

Thanks Chopstheduck I had done dumbell skullcrushers with 10kg but I think the pain was because they had hit my triceps in a way that they never have been hit before, nothing else has hurt much apart from a slight ache in the biceps. Legs only worry me because I will be doing weighted sumo squats which are new to me so are bound to cause some pain.
Done well with my food today for a change so lets hope I can keep it up, though saturday is wine night so it will probably all go out the window grin.
Just finished kettlercise and metafit, metafit was tough tonight a finisher after each round was just plain mean!

McPie Fri 18-Oct-13 06:55:45

It's far too early to be up contemplating exercise but here I am eating a banana and having a wake up coffee before I get ready to go to a cycle zone class! Last friday morning one until xmas holidays as I can't get out to do it and get the kids ready for school, shame really as it's a friend who takes it and she's ace.
Busy day today with kettlercise and boxfit 9.30 -11.30 then metafit at 1 and to top it all off another cycle zone class at 5! I think thats more classes in one day than I've had all this week. Well it's almost back to normal next week with only one body balance off as the instructor is not back until wednesday, can't wait as I need a good stretch.
Happy friday everyone wine time is approaching fast grin.

Chopstheduck Fri 18-Oct-13 07:41:09

wow mcPie, that is amazing! I def couldn't do more than one gym class in a day yet, I'm just not used to them at all yet. I am considering though cycling to the gym today. It's 4.5 miles, takes me about 15 minutes, but I'm wondering will I be able to make it home again after the class?!

futureforward Fri 18-Oct-13 09:56:59

Wow McPie, that's great! Hope your class went well!

I still can't believe how stiff I am/was from just the first day of C25k. It's quite embarrassing really and shows how unfit I am! I agree though Making that it really does take your mind off the running (or mostly walking with some short jogging bursts in my case haha). It's quite clever really, as it will load music from your playlists, then after every song there's some dialogue which furthers the story. So worst case scenario is you are thinking "just keep going til the end of this song", which is a nice way to break it up.

Hello kitchen of course you can join!! Nice to have you smile Shred is indeed available on youtube and if you google before and after pics it seems pretty impressive. I'm hoping once I'm a couple of weeks into this challenge and not quite so sore that I'll be able to do the shred on (some of) the days I don't do c25k.

Pleased to say I stuck to my menu last night and didn't have any dessert! Was rewarded with a v small loss on the scales today (weigh in day) so that was good... even though I know we're only two days in haha.

Friday night however is treat night in this household, and that ain't gonna change. grin I am sure many diet gurus would be shocked at that but I truly think that you need that chance to indulge else you go mad! wine cake Similarly if you do fall off the wagon one day (and I am sure I will too at some point), then don't be angry at yourself! At the end of the day it's only food. Could you walk a little more that day or do some sit ups while you're watching TV? I did read one bit of advice that I think is useful.... you may or may not agree... if you have ventured off plan, don't write off the whole day. Don't think "Oh well I had a chocolate bar for breakfast so now the whole day is ruined." It isn't. Don't wait for tomorrow to get back on track, do it now!! I thought it was a good tip anyway smile

futureforward Fri 18-Oct-13 09:59:23

By the way chops, 4.5 miles in 15 minutes?! shock grin Sounds pretty good to me!

McPie Fri 18-Oct-13 11:52:37

I started with one class a day and gradually built up to what I do now but then again I had Tough Mudder to prepare for and just never dropped any after I had done it. I find it easier to do 2 together more for the fact I am already warmed up from the 1st one so it's not quite as bad.
Boxfit was cancelled so I had a bit of a reprieve this morning, I am now sitting with a nice decaff coffee and waiting for metafit at 1.
4.5 miles in 15 mins is just WOW if you ask me.

futureforward Fri 18-Oct-13 12:31:19

Just been looking at the pics of the Duchess of Cambridge playing volleyball. OMG. I would die happy if I could get that shape! And still have room to put on an extra stone and still look fab!!! grin

futureforward Sat 19-Oct-13 09:15:31

Morning everyone! How was your Friday and how are you going to stick to your kick-start targets over the weekend? smile

EauRouge Sat 19-Oct-13 09:21:44

I started the shred yesterday and just did another. I am really, really rubbish at some of the strength but the cardio is pretty easy because I'm used to it. Just having a post work-out smoothie.

If you want to try it out before you buy the DVD, level 1 is on youtube.

amateurcynic Sat 19-Oct-13 10:28:04

Morning everyone!
My Friday was slightly disastrous - ended up hosting a friend who had locked himself out of his house, and somehow lots and lots of wine ended up sliding down our throats!

Plans to do a late night shred also obviously came to naught. Oh well!

Crappyoldframe Sat 19-Oct-13 14:44:57

Hello all! Well a week with no training and already put on a lb and feeling flabby another 10 days to 3 weeks off with Calf strain grrr. Best try harder with the diet. mcpie you are awesome! I would spend my life in the physio room if I attempted that much exercise!

Chopstheduck Sat 19-Oct-13 15:06:53

Hello girls smile

Well I cycled! In the end cycled 10 miles (went town after gym then home), did my class, ran 3 miles on the treadmill and walked 4 miles. So a very good day exercise wise for me and I was pretty sensible eating too. The cycling def got slower as I went on though!

I have lots of treat days though, they are essential for me to keep on it. I exercise loads so I can usually get away with it, but I think I've had a few too many treat days lately, with various events. Off to edinburgh this weekend, then back to London for the nfl in Sunday, so I'm going to have to save up some calories this week.

I want to do a tough mudder! I love cross country running in winter. Even the snow didn't stop me last year, but I didn't have a gym membership then. I don't really like running on a treadmill much though.

McPie Sat 19-Oct-13 17:45:21

Crappyoldframe calf strain is the worst pain ever, I hurt my calf at the end of march and was out for 2 weeks, it still tweeks at times.
Chopstheduck nice one, I bet you felt great after it though! Tough Mudder was amazing, mud mile was one of the best things I have ever done in my life and I can't wait to do it again but will bypass artic enema as there is no way in hell I need to go through that again, body went into shock and I had to be pulled out struggling to breath as it was so cold.
Legs done this morning and feeling fine so far, long may it continue.
Sainsburys have their Free From iced mince pies back in and I just had to buy 2 boxes of them. I am seriously going to have to hide them or I will end up eating the lot of them within days.

futureforward Sun 20-Oct-13 09:16:30

Mmm mince pies!

Well, I was up ridiculously early this morning so started the Shred! Going to try to alternate it with c25k smile

Am mostly keeping up with my promise to cleanse every night, and my skin is starting to look a bit better for it.

I did the big autumnal wardrobe changeover last night, packed away all the strappy dresses and brought out all the chunky jumpers! Problem is a few things looked like I might not be able to fit in them any more shock and I am absolutely refusing to buy any more clothes this winter so it's either lose some weight or be doomed to wearing the same baggy things every day haha!

By the way, any lurkers or watchers please feel free to join us, tomorrow is Monday so always good for a new start!!

Hope you are all having a fit and healthy weekend! smile brew

thekitchenfairy Sun 20-Oct-13 09:51:16

Hello everyone! Thanks for YouTube tip, it looks great and I think I will give it a try.

I managed a pretty good treadmill run Friday and 20minutes weights. I ate no crap but undid it all by drinking wine. A lot of cheap white wine at my monthly 'book club' which is in fact more boozy than literary! Felt utterly shit yesterday but I did manage to pack away all summer clothes. Not much choice for autumn and jeans a bit tight so lack of £££ is also motivating me onwards and downwards!

Do any of you eat paleo or low carb? I've never had huge weightloss on LC but I definitely feel better so am going to have a look today for recipes that ditch the starch for a couple of weeks but rest of family will eat and see how I feel.

DS has footie match so I am going to run while its on. Feeling good so far...

EauRouge Sun 20-Oct-13 10:27:27

Just did day 3 of the shred. Was debating giving it a miss because I've got a lot to do in the garden today, including lifting quite a few paving slabs, but I thought sod it, I can always have a soak in the bath later if I'm achey. Which I already am grin

How did you find it, future?

I toyed with the idea of low carbing but I'm pretty happy with my diet the way it is. I don't want to lose weight really, just improve my fitness and my running. I did cut down on sugar a few months ago and I think that's helped with cravings a lot. I mostly snack on nuts and seeds now.

Crappyoldframe Sun 20-Oct-13 13:36:26

I eat Paleo ( lite, i have some dairy!) it's really worked for me and stopped the sugar and carb cravings. I eat some carby veg like carrots, sweet potato and squash and I have one carb meal a week to replace glycerol (?) it's worked for me but the first three weeks were hell and I thought I was dying!

(It's all gone to shit this week whilst injured and I've had porridge every morning, a chocolate biscuit and lots of wine and cheese!)

Did three months pretty strict and lost about 17lbs. Only thing I've ever stuck at.

Chopstheduck Sun 20-Oct-13 17:28:00

McPie, that arctic enema does sound pretty horrific! I def want to do the run one day though.

futureforward, I put all my summer clothes away weeks ago! It is very depressing, though it is nice to be back in my skinny jeans this winter. I was gutted though, a gorgeous duffle coat I only bought two winters ago is now too big. Last year I couldn’t get into it at all, now I’ve had to give it to my mum.

I did low carb a bit to start with. It worked as a great kick start for me, and I know I do feel better on it, but I am a carb fiend, so i can’t keep it up long term. Hope you enjoyed your run!

EauRouge, well done for still doing it!

I got a new PB for 5k today - 30 minutes and 58 seconds! My goal of a 30 minute 5k is getting so close now! I think the fitness classes at the gym are really helping me push myself that little bit harder.

EauRouge Sun 20-Oct-13 17:33:44

Well done on the new PB! I've only managed to get a sub-30 min 5k once and I shouted so loudly when I saw the time on my Garmin that the whole street looked at me grin Most of the time I'm doing about 31 mins something. I'm really hoping the shred will cut down my times a bit, especially since my core strength is nowhere near as good as I thought it was.

Chopstheduck Mon 21-Oct-13 06:41:09

EauRouge, I'm sure it will help smile I lack core strength too. I did a pole dancing course but struggled a bit as it got more advanced because of it.

The first time I did a 5k I actually cried, luckily it was in the woods and no one was around grin Yesterday I probably looked on the verge of collapse, def no energy for celebration! Had a 5 minute walk to cool down then ran home. I really need to find a flatter route then I think I could get it.

englishteacher78 Mon 21-Oct-13 06:58:46

Can I play? I'd like to lose about a stone (maybe more) before Christmas. I run and gym at the moment. I'm about to start Tabbing (run/walk with 30lb on your back) this week in preparation for the Paras 10 next year. I can currently do 5km in about 28 mins (only one official timed run - at a parkrun). Yesterday I did a 5 mile race in 48:11. So pleased with myself.
Breakfast was my usual porridge made with water, a square of 70% dark chocolate and nutmeg and cinnamon. Yum.
Managed to lose 6.2lb this week as I've increased my running, cut out caffeine and majorly reduced sugar.

Crappyoldframe Mon 21-Oct-13 07:37:34

I think that should be glycogen! Not glycerol!

Crappyoldframe Mon 21-Oct-13 07:55:12

english well done on the weight loss! I'm looking to lose a lb. this week. Will be happy with that with no training, calf still hurts like buggery so expect I've at least another couple of weeks out- it's starting to get me down but not a lot I can do about it just need to be patient! Have a good week all!

McPie Mon 21-Oct-13 07:55:54

englishteacher78 welcome, my Boxfit instructor mentioned Tabbing when I was looking for a new aim after Tough Mudder, as a Para himself he was thinking of doing it but I am not sure I could manage the 30kg quite yet. As it is I have Tough Mudder Scotland in June and the Edinburgh Marathon in September to aim for, suppose one more couldn't hurt if he was looking for a group to do it grin.
Bad food weekend here but I did get to the gym both days, legs were not an issue as I have had no pain at all from saturday so done my legs again chest and tris yesterday as the place was dead.
Bodypump this morning as well as getting my gym plan done and she has promised to be brutal grin grin grin then Kettlercise and Boxfit tonight, I love Mondays as I have my 3 most fav classes in one day!
Good luck getting back on track to anyone who needs it (cos I sure do)!

englishteacher78 Mon 21-Oct-13 08:03:20

Guy who owns my gym is an ex-para loads of us have done it (not me yet). DH is doing the treble of pain (all 3 para 10s) next year and the Fan Dance! (Half marathon tabbing Pen Y Fan - SAS route)
I've done a Spartan but not Tough Mudder!

thekitchenfairy Mon 21-Oct-13 13:14:10

Hello there!
Can anyone recommend a link to a good paleo site? I am really interested in this, have a lifelong sugar addiction to crack and this may be the way as I think it would be good for us all at home!

Run was great yesterday and reasonably flat, unusual as live in hilly part of the world, but crikey the weather here is foul. DH is working at home today too, brewing coffee and eating toast but so far i have not succumbed. He is v bemused that I am going to 'attempt' the shred today. I will let you know how I get on!!

futureforward Mon 21-Oct-13 22:58:58

Well after my first shred I don't think I've ever been so sore and achey as today! I don't understand how people can do it everyday as I've barely been able to walk today!

I'm also a little annoyed with myself as I've not worked out as often as I wanted to, or thought I would, because each time I have done it's put me out of action for three days! Grr.

EauRouge Tue 22-Oct-13 12:35:01

Ran 7k this morning (OK, I had a 60 second walking break in the middle) so I shall have to try and find time to shred later. I can always do it once I've got the chicken in the oven but at that time of day DD2 (2.6yo) is usually getting pretty whingy.

My garden looks like a building site hmm so I need to find some time to fix that as well. I'm going to look like Arnie by the end of Nov grin

Chopstheduck Tue 22-Oct-13 13:19:25

afternoon girls smile

I was supposed to be going to body pump tonight, but DH is going to be late, so I've had to cancel, so went for a 5 mile run instead. I WILL get to body pump sooner or later, but that's the third time I've had to cancel! I do have body attack booked tomorrow morning though.

I think shred is supposed to get easier smile I wouldn't worry if you are needing rest days to start with, just do what you can and build it up.

McPie Tue 22-Oct-13 17:52:27

Tried my new gym programme this morning and it took me 1.1/2 hour to complete after my warm up.
I asked for brutal and thats what I got, what ever they are paying her is no where near enough as she is just fab!
I can all ready feel the aches in my legs from all the box jumps, squats and lunges she had me doing grin.
I have another class free morning tomorrow so may just give it another go ans see if I can get through it a bit quicker, the second I give in to DOMS I seize up so for me I find it best to keep on going.

EauRouge Tue 22-Oct-13 20:32:10

I wish I could go to the gym, I couldn't get there often enough to make a difference or to justify the cost though. I've given DH some heavy hints that I would like a rowing machine for Christmas grin

Managed to fit in the shred this afternoon, I'm sure it's getting easier already and my DDs are getting pretty good at bicycle crunches.

thekitchenfairy Tue 22-Oct-13 21:54:14

Evening girls!
Bloody hell you're all doing well!
I enjoyed the shred more than I thought but I didnt feel my back warmed up quite enough. I ache a but today and will try again tomorrow as gym closed.
Feeling smug as nearly a week into My New Life and DH still contemplating how to start... While finishing off the kids leftover macaroni cheese I was saving for their tea tomorrow...
Onwards girls, Onwards...

McPie Wed 23-Oct-13 07:53:28

As much as I loved the shred, and all the other dvd's, the only (major) problem I found was that she doesnt give you an effective enough warm-up or cooldown which leads to major DOMS which puts a lot of people off continuing. I get that all new forms of exercise will ache after doing it but the warm-up/cooldown in shred does you no favours as its so short and feels rushed so either do it all again holding for longer than she does (cooldown) or do some tried and tested ones you know instead.

Chopstheduck Thu 24-Oct-13 06:43:57

I only ever get the DOMS once though, and then I'm usually fine. Isn't it that way for most people? First bodyATTACK last week, and I was sore for three days after, but after yesterday I am fine. I do agree though, it wouldn't hurt to do some extra stretches, especially afterwards. When I did pole dancing, I was advised to stretch out a few more times at intervals after the class as it is quite intense and really pulls on the muscles.

My weight is actually heading downwards grin But I have a seriously busy weekend coming up, and I bet it is going to go straight up again by Monday! I have no will power once I head out the door sad

EauRouge Thu 24-Oct-13 21:18:02

No shred or running for me today- had planned to do both but DD2 was in A&E last night and at x-ray clinic today with a pulled elbow so I don't feel guilty about it. I reckon all that worrying burned a few calories anyway grin She's fine now so should be able to do the shred tomorrow. Not sure how she'll feel about not being allowed to join in though!

futureforward Thu 24-Oct-13 23:39:47

Hello hello!!

Well, I have not been very lucky this week. I was so sore from the Shred but that went by yesterday morning so I was planning to do either c25k or another shred yesterday evening. Unfortunately I have come down with absolutely crippling back pain, it's so sore. I weighed the rucksack I took to work yesterday and it was 10kilo, what's that about two stone?? So I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it hmm. SO so annoyed to have lost this week in terms of exercising!

Eating is going ok, the beauty routine is also going well... I can't move but I look good haha.

How is everyone else doing this week? Glad your daughter is ok Eau!!

englishteacher78 Fri 25-Oct-13 05:56:00

Got a friend's leaving cake today and two parties this weekend so Monday will see my weight going up but it will come back down with my half marathon training!

thekitchenfairy Fri 25-Oct-13 06:55:39

Erm... What is DOMS? Wondering what I am doing wrong as shredded twice this week and not at all achey after.

Helped at school disco last night resisted sweeties and cake for helpers but couple glasses wine with DH after. I need some strategies for half term, am off to parents where wine and home made goodies will be plied in equal measure!

Well done every one... Sounds like we're all doing wellsmile

englishteacher78 Fri 25-Oct-13 06:56:32

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

futureforward Fri 25-Oct-13 09:17:10

DOMS!!

I'm all DOMMED out!!!

futureforward Fri 25-Oct-13 09:20:31

McPie, someone on a shred thread told me to just keep going with it too. Torn between wondering if I should have done or also thinking I'd now be in an even worse state if I had!

Anyway I have had a look at the calendar and figured out that if I can do something tomorrow to get back into it then I should (should!) be able to complete the shred and the c25k in time for Christmas! And that's with one weekend day as a rest day. Something to aim for!

We have guests coming next weekend so good eating will be out of the question so I need to be extra good this weekend and next week!

Angrybudda Sat 26-Oct-13 08:49:49

Can I join? a bit late but I did embark on my new fitness regime at the end of September.

Though moisturizerings will be added!! (Sp)

englishteacher78 Sat 26-Oct-13 08:55:09

Having a day off today. Gym open day (beer and burgers) followed by a meal out.
But seeing that I did an hour's PT (sparring) and 20 minutes Tabbing and I'm planning to run 8-10 miles tomorrow. So should be ok.

EauRouge Sat 26-Oct-13 09:47:41

Hello Angrybudda smile What's your new fitness regime?

I did the shred yesterday- I was tired, it was pitiful but I just about limped through it. DD2 hasn't been sleeping very well, I expect her elbow is still pretty sore. Knackered again today so haven't done any exercise yet. I was planning to do the shred this morning and go for a run later but I won't have time for both now. Not sure it's going to be running weather for a few days anyway!

Chopstheduck Sat 26-Oct-13 10:12:39

Morning ladies x

I did spin yesterday, they changed the routine and it was a great work out. Now about to walk up to Arthur's seat!

Have a great weekend everyone smile

Angrybudda Sat 26-Oct-13 12:22:54

((waving at EauRouge))
Hi

I have signed myself up to a 10k in 6 weeks time. I am run 3 to 4 times a week, was previously just staying on top of my fitness from the Race to Life 5k back in June. Though very hard to do during the six weeks holiday with 5 dc. Decided to push myself and therefore entered myself in a half marathon next year (March) I have to set myself goals or otherwise I would not do it.

Have just increase my running to five times a week - 2 miles, 3 miles, 4 miles, 5.5 miles and 3.5 miles. Also just start Yoga twice a week which I am loving. I do try fit in Spin/and weights but very new to this.

I would love to lose a stone by Christmas and am trying to eat clean. Failed yesterday! But I do enjoy a glass of wine, which is my downfall but in my defence I have 5dc lol!! And it was Friday.

McPie Sat 26-Oct-13 19:01:30

The way I see DOMS is that they are a sign that you have actively worked muscles in a way you have never done or not done for a while so I find them all good grin, plus I seize up if I give in to them which delays the pain for longer for me.
My spin class was changed up a bit too yesterday Chops, climbs for all but the last two tracks and my thighs were screaming by the time I got off the bike!
Went to the gym and done my legs and back today and managed to up quite a lot of my weights so am going to enjoy my wine tonight grin

futureforward Sun 27-Oct-13 06:56:40

Right then, it's Sunday and I appear to be ache-free! So future IS going to go on a run in a few minutes! I am going to get into this routine if it kills me! (possible this might be literal haha)

Hello Angry, a stone before Christmas would do me very well indeed too smile

Angrybudda Sun 27-Oct-13 13:26:03

(Waves at Future)

Yes, hopefully dedication is the key to the stone loss. Rested yesterday. Today, fruit for breakfast. Half a lager at lunch (at the Rugby) with Super Green Soup for lunch, a 5.5 run and veg for dinner. Will have to stick to it now, as I have told you all.

Have a great Sunday!

Crappyoldframe Tue 29-Oct-13 11:37:59

Hello all - so jealous - I still haven't been able to do anything with Calf strain still but thinking of going out on my bike today and keeping my fingers crossed it's okay!

Diet is okay but could be better - haven't lost anything the last couple of weeks but haven't gained either.

Angrybudda Tue 29-Oct-13 16:41:07

Hello everyone! How are we all doing? Being good??

EauRouge Tue 29-Oct-13 16:52:48

Not so much, no. I did manage a couple of hours heavy digging and lugging around paving slabs, followed by a shred session on Saturday but nothing at all yesterday or today. DD2's sleep has been dreadful so I've only been able to walk today with the aid of several gallons of coffee.

McPie Tue 29-Oct-13 17:11:03

Food wise things have been beyond crap here sad, something has set me off the last two nights and I was determined that it was not going to win and went to kettlercise and boxfit anyway.
Kettlercise was not too great, I kept to 8kg as I would normally add in 10kg for swings, but for some reason I felt a bit better after my boxing and my epic 64 push ups and 69 sit ups that I managed, 2 mins for each.
I avoided the gym after balance this morning but will head there tomorrow after depositing the Twinkles at school.
I think I have worked out the culprits and will be avoiding them for a while, possibly forever going by the pain at bedtime.

Angrybudda Tue 29-Oct-13 22:38:40

EauRouge rest days are good especially after weight training ie lugging around paving slabs. I can't function when sleep deprived at all, so know your pain, hopefully you will get a better sleep tonight.

McPie you may feel you're messing up on the food but it's sounds like you are smashing the exercise! Well Done.

EauRouge Wed 30-Oct-13 14:28:28

Ah, I feel better now, I was doing a rest day grin

Ran 5 miles this morning and will probably fit in a shred later. How is it that I struggle to find 20 mins?

Pinkglow Wed 30-Oct-13 17:17:37

Can I join? Was going to start a new routine after this weekend anyway.

My diet is pretty good and I run 2-3 times per week and spin but I really want to do a half marathon next year and its my core which is letting me down really. Was going to do two core workouts per week from now until Christmas to improve it.

Angrybudda - what half are you doing in March?

EauRouge Wed 30-Oct-13 17:38:43

There's a half near me in March and I'm toying with the idea. I've had a look at a couple of training plans though and not sure I'll have time. I don't want to break any records or anything, just finish!

Chopstheduck Wed 30-Oct-13 17:59:15

afternoon ladies!

I'm thinking about a half next spring too. Last time I started training though, I buggered up my knee and put myself out for a month. I don't seem to be able to run 4-5 times a week, but I might try to work up to it based on 3-4 times a week. I'm finding that strength work is really helping me with run times, and have knocked 3 mins off my pb for 5k since joining the gym.

My shoulders are aching from body pump last night! It's so hard when the kids are off getting the exercise in, but I have booked spin for tomo evening, and attack and combat early mornings at the weekend. Might fit in a run again on fri, did run for a bit on the treadmill yesterday, but I prefer running outside. But with the kids off school, by the time dh gets home it is dark and its impossible to find routes round here that are lit unless I go up and down the killer hills on the main road!

EauRouge Wed 30-Oct-13 20:25:20

Are we all half marathon virgins? I've never done anything other than a few parkruns. DH is egging me on and telling me to sign up.

THat's great to hear that strength work is helping with your running. I found my run easier today but it's hard to say whether it was the shred or the weather- I just didn't want to stop this morning, it was such a lovely day!

Angrybudda Wed 30-Oct-13 23:18:54

Chops, I have signed myself up to Silverstone. EauRouge if it's not to far away come and join me. we can work towards it together. grin

Managed weights on Monday, 3 miles jog on Tuesday and a 3 mile run today. Food is sliding a bit. I just need to sit down and have meal rather than eat around everything!! But always manic when the kids are off.

Planning 4 miles run tomorrow, rest day Friday. Cant decide between doing a 6 miler on Saturday as per my training schedule or to do my first Parkrun. What do you think?

Angrybudda Wed 30-Oct-13 23:22:38

Hi Pink, sorry as you asked where my first half marathon is and not Chops Silverstone. Fancy it? Meant to be a great first one because it's so flat.

Chopstheduck Thu 31-Oct-13 06:50:12

I've still not done a park run, but running with others is supposed to be good for pushing yourself harder. I run faster when there are other runners about! grin I'd go for the park run!

My nearest park runs are a half hour ish drive, a bit far really sad

EauRouge Thu 31-Oct-13 08:55:51

I'm not that far from Silverstone actually grin I did think about doing it in the future (being a huge F1 fan) but I've been there for motor racing events and it's always so bloody windy and I hate hate HATE running in the wind. But yes, totally flat. I don't think you'd want me slowing you down!

I was think of this one, it's also flat and a bit closer to me. And cheaper I would imagine!

Pinkglow Thu 31-Oct-13 12:40:09

Silverstone is a little too early in March for me unfortunately.

I was thinking of either the Brooklands Half which does start and end on a racetrack funnily enough or leaving it for a couple of months and doing the milton Keynes half. I think this is the first year Milton keynes is doing a half on the same day of the marathon which has really good reviews.

EauRouge Thu 31-Oct-13 13:04:59

Ooh, Silverstone is only £3 more than Swavesey. Quite tempted now. And it looks like you can wear headphones, someone told me they were banned there.

EauRouge Thu 31-Oct-13 13:05:51

Oh, it's sponsored by Nestle hmm

Angrybudda Thu 31-Oct-13 22:05:54

Eau I am not in it to win it! just to complete it would be an achievement. I like plodding along so no speedy racer here. But happy to have a training partner to train alongside via MN would be good. Chocolate is a good incentive maybe they will give out free bars at the end.
Pink Just looked up the MK HM as it only up the road from me. But it says it is on 9th March. Am I looking at the wrong one?
Future Worrying that run on Sunday did kill you! Lol! How are you getting along this week?

Chopstheduck Fri 01-Nov-13 07:44:58

I love the idea of running at silverstone. DT2 is HUGE f1 fan, and has been there to watch racing, and would be so impressed! grin

It is quite far though, about an hour and half, so not sure. Brooklands -is that the one in surrey, somewhere near weybridge? That is closer to me.

I have been thinking about Reading. We were off to costco earlier this year as it was finishing, and I had not been running long and thought it would be nice to aim for in 2014.

Pinkglow Fri 01-Nov-13 07:51:52

Oh yes I yes MK is on the 9th, I thought it was later for some reason - might have to leave that one then

Chopstheduck - yes the brooklands one is in Surrey, meant to be a flat course. I thought about Reading but I've heard the course is abit boring which put me off

elliemummaroos Fri 01-Nov-13 10:58:24

Can I join in please? I stupidly signed up for the Brighton half marathon and can't run... I was doing well but then my back problems flared up and I stopped running. I'm taking DD swimming so might be able to do a couple of lengths but nothing spectacular. Might go to the gym or for a run later. xXx

futureforward Sat 02-Nov-13 00:18:56

Oh my gosh I can't believe I haven't been on here since last weekend. I could have sworn I wrote a post on Wednesday!?!? I'm not doing very well as a ringleader am I?! Promise to do better from now on.

Speaking of which we are now in November so our target (Christmas day) is now only next month!! I am so impressed with all your half marathons, I have been psyching myself to enter a 5k! blush it sounds like you are all doing very well indeed!! I'm having a weekend off as we are seeing some friends and going to eat tons and drink tons too, but back on it on Monday!! grin

Angrybudda Sat 02-Nov-13 09:24:53

Ok had a rest day yesterday, very good on the Food.
Off now for a 6 mile jog, my dog is loving all this new exercise! Decide to do this rather than the Parkrun as the nearest one is 30 minutes away and I love my bed to much to get up early on Saturday!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Chopstheduck Sat 02-Nov-13 17:31:19

I did a 4 mile run last night, and then this morning I had body combat booked. Except for some strange reason, they did body ATTACK instead! Ive even checked back and it was def supposed to be combat! Worn out now!

elliemummaroos Sun 03-Nov-13 08:46:48

So I started my new plan by doing body combat yesterday morning... Was amazing but my calf muscles are not impressed today! Nearly fell over when I got out of bed!! Having a rest (mini pamper) day today and have body balance booked in tomorrow and aqua followed by a swim on Tuesday. Will go for a run twice later in the week as well. Thinking I may be planning too much but I'm just going to go for it and see how I get on! I have an idea in my head how much I would like to lose before Christmas so aiming for that! How's everyone getting on? xXx

McPie Sun 03-Nov-13 09:51:37

Having two rest days in a row, which is a first for me but I really couldn't bring myself to go to the gym yesterday. I went shopping whith dh instead but as everywhere we went food wise doesn't cater too well for my food "ishoos" I came home rather grumpy so made a nice reaction-free curry for myself grin. Dh and ds1 are going to go see Captain Phillips at lunchtime today and I may have my niece and nephew for a short while so can't get to the gym, they shut at 6 at the weekend sad.
I will be back on track this week or at least thats my plan, its my twins 7th birthday/party at the weekend so things could go very, very wrong at some point going by my to do list shock. Mince pies are going in the freezer to save me from temptation, well they will after I have had one soon as it is a rest day wink.
Pump and weights await me in the morning but today I have a massive pile of ironing I have been ignoring for such a long time, I know what I would really rather be doing instead though!

Angrybudda Mon 04-Nov-13 11:17:29

Did a 4 mile run yesterday, only had 4 hours sleep the night before and was nursing a small hangover. Just keep telling myself "you'll be proud of yourself when you have finished"... but was just shattered!! and was not fit for much else afterwards.

I need to added two new habits - drinking 2 ltrs of water per day and getting 8 hrs of sleep. Both I am not very good at doing!hmm

futureforward Mon 04-Nov-13 12:22:39

Angry how on earth did you find the motivation?! If I'd had four hours' sleep I'd be spending every minute I could in bed!! You're amazing grin

I'm thinking about signing up for a 5k...!!

Chopstheduck Mon 04-Nov-13 13:31:46

Go for it FF!

I find that running is a great hangover cure.

Happy birthday to your twins McPie.

I signed up to a new running club at the gym today - eek!! It will be my first experience of running with other people. Really hope I'm not the slowest there! I have lots of classes going on, did spin this morning, then some weights. I can't seem to get any weight off, but my jeans are falling down!

PublicEnemyNumeroUno Mon 04-Nov-13 14:27:07

I'm a bit late but may I join?

I have let myself go a bit over the summer, I haven't exercised for about 2-3 months and really need to get back into it.

My plan is to walk at least 30 mins - 1hour a day with the pram ( used to do this every day but got lazy since getting my car)

Get the treadmill out at least 3 times a week and do a bit of a jog/run

Do some squats every night

I went for a lovely walk this morning after dropping DS1 off at school, the fresh air was lovely and by the time I got home I was sweating

futureforward Mon 04-Nov-13 15:00:45

Oh Chops, look what you've made me do... I've only gone and signed up for it!! February 23rd!!! shock I must be mad!!!

Hello Public and welcome!! Your plan sounds really good. I do love this time of year, nice and fresh yet not quite bitterly cold smile

How was your weekend McPie, did you manage to survive it reasonably well?!

Hope everyone is getting on well, remember Monday is always good for a mental 'new start'! As I predicted we had a shocking weekend of indulgence thanks to guests coming round, I am thinking about going rather low-cal this week and next to shake things up a bit, I think i need to shock myself out of eating the huge portions I am doing!!

Chopstheduck Mon 04-Nov-13 16:23:58

Ooh well done you! That's plenty of time for training too, you will ace it grin

welcome, PublicEnemyNumeroUno

McPie Mon 04-Nov-13 17:12:53

Dh and ds1 are down with some form of bug so was up at 1.30am, I have also tweeked a nerve somewhere so have an annoying pain in the arse cheek. I went to body pump this morning but kept my weights lower than I normally would have and skipped the gym.
I am about to head out to asda to get things for the party as my parents are busy tomorrow so have dropped kettlercise (boxfit off as he has a holiday today) thinking I could pick up the combat and pump tomorrow night but they have been cancelled again angry so I may end up in the gym for a while instead.
I just survived the noise of three extra kids yesterday so I have no idea how the hell I will cope with 25 of the blighters on saturday!

How are we getting on this week everyone? smile brew

Chopstheduck Wed 06-Nov-13 06:39:13

I Am ACHING!

It is good, it's what I wanted, I've been in a rut for a bit and needed to up the ante a bit. Debating about a break today though. have done 6 classes in 8 days, ran and cycled on my 'rest' days, and the classes were all different, so muscles are aching I didn't know I had!

EauRouge Wed 06-Nov-13 07:05:45

One shred and one run this week. Today is my rest day but I've got some gardening to do so I won't just be sitting around doing nothing (as if I ever get the time to do that).

DH has become sick of my moaning about my hamstrings and ordered me a foam roller.

Angrybuddha Wed 06-Nov-13 07:12:34

Well done FF for signing up to your 5k. Where are you doing it?
Chop 6 classes in 8 days. I aching just thinking about it!
McFly you live one hectic life. Hope you twin have a nice Birthday.
Eau I see on another thread you have signed up to a half marathon! Good for you. Scared??? I am.

Monday was a rest day, I was too busy yesterday and shattered to get any exercise in. But just getting my running kit on, so will get a run and the gym in today.

Weight loss is going well, Since middle of September I have loss 10 lb mostly off my belly smile. But I have also starting to lose it off my boobs, which I am not so happy about! thinking that is more to do with cutting back to much food than exercise, so aim to increase my food intake but keeping up the exercise!

Angrybuddha Wed 06-Nov-13 07:14:33

Ah! Embarrassed about all the spelling mistakes in my last post, I hit post before I proof read it! Sorry!! shock

Chopstheduck Wed 06-Nov-13 07:18:05

I've really lost it off my boobs lately too sad

I'm only a b cup now as it is, can't afford to lose any more! I'm eating pretty normally, aiming to build a bit of muscle. I am generally very pear shaped, but building muscle evens me out a bit.

EauRouge Wed 06-Nov-13 08:58:59

Angry, I think I'm still in the denial phase grin It will probably hit me when I do my 'long' run on Sunday. I can manage about 5 miles at the moment.

I've lost loads of my boobs too, a combination of exercise and cutting back on BF, I think. I was a 30GG this time last year though, so I'm not too upset at going down to an F. I would like to stop now though, it's costing me a fortune in bras.

Been stuffing myself full of carbs and chocolate this week but I'm on my period, so there grin I haven't weighed or measured myself for a couple of weeks so no idea. All my clothes still fit so probably no change.

I missed your 5k news, future- good luck! You'll be fine. How's your C25k going?

Angrybuddha Wed 06-Nov-13 22:53:22

smile4 miles done today!!
Planning to do 4 tomorrow, 40 minutes weigh training and Yoga.

Eau I can manage about 5 miles now too. Sounds if we are pretty much on the same page. I am training for my 10k now but after that, I will be training for my half marathon from the start of December.

Chops still in awe of how many classes you have done, I don't think I could get myself off the sofa after all that!

FF the first one to sign up too is always the hardest! When is it?

Angrybuddha Wed 06-Nov-13 22:56:09

Sorry FF just re-read, end of February. Great, you left yourself plenty of time to train up to it!

Chopstheduck Thu 07-Nov-13 09:24:12

F! I wish I was an F <sob>

Good luck with your long run. Are you still doing the shred too? It will really help.

I did 3.5 miles yesterday, then went to gym for a body conditioning class. It was a toning class, so good combo with the run.

Running club was changed to starting next week instead, so todays plan is to bike to the gym and a Body Pump class. I'm really hopign the runnign club will give me the confidence to actually try entering events.

EauRouge Thu 07-Nov-13 09:46:00

I'll be shredding every day for the next week and a bit, with no running unless I can find someone to babysit. MiL has been taking into hospital so DH is jetting off to visit.

I've looked for 10ks near me but the only one I can find has a 1hr 15min time limit. I'm sure I could do it in that but I don't want to risk it because I'd probably try to go too fast and end up injuring myself. Think I'll just stick to the odd parkrun.

Angrybuddha Thu 07-Nov-13 11:28:38

I wouldn't like a time limit either!!!

I doing the Reindeer run at Woburn. Hope it's not like the Bull run in Spain lol!!

EauRouge Thu 07-Nov-13 11:54:45

Oh, is there one at Woburn? I was looking at the one in Cambridge but you have to raise at least £100 to get a place. Woburn's not far from me and only down the road from my DM.

Chopstheduck Thu 07-Nov-13 13:56:04

Have visions of you being chased down by angry reindeer now! grin

Body pump was a killer today! No chance I am going to be able to do that again tomorrow, think I shall probably go for a run instead.

EauRouge Thu 07-Nov-13 14:03:59

I've been chased by an angry reindeer (long story), they are vicious buggers!

Angrybuddha Thu 07-Nov-13 14:46:33

Woburn 24th November, £18 5 or 10k. Around the deer park, will be lovely if we have good weather!

Been for my run, DH came too. Nice to run with someone!

Angrybuddha Fri 08-Nov-13 19:38:13

Weights today!!

What's everyone else been up to?

EauRouge Fri 08-Nov-13 20:42:19

A rather shit attempt at day 8 of 30DS, not helped by 2.8yo DD2 joining in wearing only trainers (couldn't do anything for laughing), then my neighbour calling round, then my dad phoning (after which point I couldn't find my weights anywhere). But I did most of it. I'm aching anyway, so it must have done some good. Running tomorrow.

Angrybuddha Fri 08-Nov-13 21:07:06

Lol!! Away hard when kids join in!!! More embarrassing when they can beat you at the plank.

EauRouge Fri 08-Nov-13 21:36:21

Someone should do an exercise video called "how not to kick your toddler in the face" and should randomly shout "no, you can't watch cbeebies now!" during the workout so that you don't have to stop to catch your breath.

McPie Sat 09-Nov-13 00:16:08

Only got to metafit today (yesterday whatever!) as I have been avoiding kettlercise this week due to my bum hurting, didn't go to cyclezone either for the same reason. It feels so much better that I will give lunges a try out in the safety of the gym on sunday.
Twins had a good birthday and I have around 25 kids to entertain and feed for 2 hours today which scares the hell out of me but thankfully I have loads of helpers and a bottle of wine to come home to grin.
Sunday afternoon WILL be spent doing weights in the gym, I will need a de-stress by then!

McPie Sat 09-Nov-13 00:19:06

EauRouge mine would need reminders to avoid the dodgy floorboard in my bedroom grin, thankfully I make full use of the new leisure centres facilities across the road these days grin

Angrybuddha Sat 09-Nov-13 15:09:39

Whoop whoop!!

Boasting
8 1/2 mile run in the rain across the fields slipping and sliding all the way. 30% of run on inclines, 6 1/2 done in 1.02.53.

McPie Sat 09-Nov-13 23:08:59

Nice one Angrybuddha! Mud Mile was my favourite obstacle in Tough Mudder, much to my mums amazement as I was always the child who could play in the mud until I realised I was dirty and then needed to wash my hands grin
Kids party went great but I made way, way too much food. I survived and am now enjoying my much deserved bottle of wine after spending the last two days cooking up a storm.
Tomorrow afternoon its business as usual and I will be off to the gym to do my programme so it will be box jumps and squats with the power bag as well as all the other evil moves Debs has got me doing grin

Pinkglow Mon 11-Nov-13 11:05:17

I'm now over my cold so no excuses I have to start tonight. Unfortunately DH is working lates the next couple of days so I will have to do some exercise DVDs. Its so much harder when you've had a couple of weeks off but esp when you have to start with DVDs. I find going out for a run or to the gym so much easier.

AngryBuddha Mon 11-Nov-13 13:14:07

Pink happy to hear you're feeling better? good luck with the DVDs.

I am have a REST day, but did 4 1/2 mile run yesterday. Feeling a bit green around the gills today, So resting up should be good thing hopefully.

AngryBuddha Fri 15-Nov-13 00:08:58

Have we all fallen off the wagon??

Chopstheduck Fri 15-Nov-13 07:14:48

I'm still here, must remember to check in!

this week I've done Body Attack, spinning, and a 5 mile run, hopefully out for another run this morning and a class booked for sunday. I really need to be a bit more disciplined with what I am eating though, dh has put on a bit of weight too, so is more willing to eat a bit healthier, so hopefully might get some weight off before Xmas!

EauRouge Fri 15-Nov-13 07:56:19

I'm hanging in there but MiL is in hospital so I've been doing all the childcare for the last week, leaving me not much time or energy to exercise. Thankfully, I have been able to eat healthily thanks to being a bit obsessed with stocking the freezer with leftovers.

I've managed to shred once and get out for a run twice- I got a new 5k PB the other day, 29.19! Was pretty pleased with that.

DH is back on Monday and I'm due to start my half marathon training plan next week.

Pinkglow Fri 15-Nov-13 10:35:13

I'm still in. Have done a spinning class and a couple of core exercise DVDs. Its my core I really want to improve more than the running in a way.

AngryBuddha Fri 15-Nov-13 22:41:23

I have been poorly all week. So have been comfort eating on Crisps and Stollen! So the healthy eating has gone out of the window this week, as well as gaining inches around the waste line.

Starting to get nervous about my first 10k next weekend!! This weeks illness has upset my training plans!! sad

*Pink *have you tried Pilates? Great core exercises to strengthen the muscles!

Pinkglow Sat 16-Nov-13 09:31:39

Angrybuddha funnily enough I tried a class yesterday on gymcube (I have a ten day free trial) and the problem I have with yoga and pilates is that I don't feel like I'm doing anything and I prefer more intense exercise. After saying that I will do a few more as the stretching certainly can't do any harm.

AngryBuddha Sat 16-Nov-13 20:28:57

You need a better instructor. I have done a few classes where you get a nice stretch (but with limited time, this is not enough, I want to feel I am achieving something). But I have found a class, (thankfully one of this classes are on a Monday, rest day after my long run). I break a sweat within the first 10 minutes and am like that for the rest of the session.

Another rest day today, to try and get this bug out of my system (also hubby working so no childcare) will fit in a long run (7 miles) tomorrow.

AngryBuddha Mon 18-Nov-13 11:49:15

Did not do anything over the weekend! So panicked this morning as 10k race is only 6 days away. So ran 10k this morning, slowly, just so I know I can do it! Will try and only do 2 or 3 2 milers over the next few days and rest!!

TheFaceofBEauRouge Tue 19-Nov-13 19:13:31

Finally have my DH home and went for a lovely, relaxing 4 mile run tonight. I usually run in the morning so running in the dark was a novelty, not sure I like it- but it was bloody nice to have a break from the DDs after 10 days on my own with them.

My half marathon training plan starts this week so I shall be shredding tomorrow.

futureforward Tue 19-Nov-13 23:29:38

I have one word: OFSTED!!! What a nightmare the last couple of weeks have been. angry

The good news is I haven't been doing too badly actually. I went out for a 5.5km run last weekend which I was very proud about!! The healthy eating has not been going TOO well as loads of cakes and chocolate appear to have entered the house, I know not how blush.

It's just getting so cold now that it's really hard to make myself leave the house, have no idea how I will cope if this snow actually makes an appearance!!

Chopstheduck Wed 20-Nov-13 07:38:06

Morning girls

I'm struggling a bit to get out of the house too. Plus AF arrived Monday, early, and very full on. So after missing Sunday, I also missed Monday. Got out yesterday though, lovely 5.5 mile run around Virginia Water. Bloody freezing, but sunny. I pinned my top to my running tights to stop it riding up which did help a bit! I get paid next week and I'm debating whether to register for the local half marathon next April.

Chopstheduck Wed 20-Nov-13 07:44:35

Oh and running in the dark - I ordered a runing headlight onlien here Makes me look a bit of a numpty, but they are quite common around here, and we have too many roads wihtout streetlights.

TheFaceofBEauRouge Wed 20-Nov-13 10:48:08

I've seen those headlight things. I made a change from my normal route and avoided the country lanes so it wasn't too bad, only one unlit stretch. It was rush hour though so I had to keep stopping for traffic and running on the grass verges past pedestrians. That made me a bit nervous, dog owners around here are terrible for not picking up shite.

You should absolutely register for the half marathon! I'm doing my first one in March.

Pinkglow Wed 20-Nov-13 11:06:27

I think quite a few of us are doing our first HM next year aren't we? Did a interval run yesterday on the treadmill though for some reason I always end up running slower on a treadmill.

Will go for a 20 min tempo run tonight before core tomorrow and then a 10k at the weekend. Should get a good base up as I start HM training in December.

McPie Wed 20-Nov-13 13:37:16

I'm still keeping up with everything apart from my eating! sad
Today is the re-start for me with 5 weeks to christmas.
I have been avoiding the treadamill the last month or so but finally dragged my backside onto one this morning and done 2 1/2 mins each of walking, climbing at 11% and running at 9.5 x 4 then kept going on the last run so I managed a solid 10 mins with a 2 1/2 min cool down walk. I then went on to do my 3 circuits from my gym plan before going home for an hour before doing the new metafit.
Tonights plan is body combat, an hour in the gym (I may run again if I can't get on the squat rack, and then a nice well earned stretch in body balance grin.

AngryBuddha Wed 20-Nov-13 22:08:10

(Waves to everyone)

Wow impressive - McPie

Yes, Pink think there is a few of us now. I am doing my first 10k on Sunday. Then it will be HM training.

Should of gone out tonight, but had hell of a day! So went and watched rubbish in bed instead. I will try to go to the gym tomorrow.

Chopstheduck Fri 22-Nov-13 06:29:59

You are working hard McPie!

I'm rather pleased with myself - ran 9 miles yesterday! Got a new PB for 10k at 1hr7min, then carried on til 1hr45 to do the 9miles. I think I'm gonna take the plunge and register! It was mostly sunny but the wind, and I did quite a hilly circuit so I think I can do this.

Today I'm off to the gym for a spinning class then will do some weights.

Foodwise things have been a little better this week too, must stay away from the chips!

TheFaceofBEauRouge Fri 22-Nov-13 09:09:00

Well done on your 9 miles! If you can do that now then a half should be no problem.

Another 4 mile run done last night, I was surprised at my pace throughout, I'm gutted that my Garmin crashed because I never got to find out my time. Shredding today and having a well-deserved rest day on Saturday! I say rest, I'm going to the NCT sale and then IKEA which can't really be considered resting.

Chopstheduck Fri 22-Nov-13 11:15:18

Oh dear, Ikea is a workout in itself! Have you watched the Gravity/Ikea spoof yet? grin

My 'rest' day tomorrow involves taking 4 teenage girls to see the Hunger Games. Hopefully Sunday I will get out for a run.

AngryBuddha Sat 23-Nov-13 22:26:35

Got on the scale on Thursday seem to put on 1/2 stone in last two weeks, not good. Comforting eating while I was poorly and reduced exercise.

I will be doing my first 10k tomorrow, wish me luck!

Chopstheduck Sun 24-Nov-13 08:01:41

Good luck today AngryBuddha! smile

AngryBuddha Sun 24-Nov-13 14:49:40

Thanks Chops

Wasn't expecting a great performance due to me being unwell for 2 weeks in my training. But I pulled it out of the bag. Beautiful location, but wet, muddy and very hilly but I did it in 59:40

Very pleased!!

Chopstheduck Sun 24-Nov-13 15:00:03

That was a great time, well done you! grin

TheFaceofBEauRouge Mon 25-Nov-13 07:57:45

Wow, that's a brilliant time!

I did 5 miles yesterday, it felt really tough for some reason (lack of sleep maybe?). Rest day again today.

I did do a bit of running on Saturday even though it was meant to be a rest day. If you saw a woman running up the travelator at MK Ikea to retrieve a 2 yo girl that decided at the last minute she was too scared to get on, that was me.

AngryBuddha Mon 25-Nov-13 23:09:08

grin Beau very funny. We have all been there!!

I feel good, don't ache at all. Think I may still may be on a high.

So the 1/2 marathon training starts now. Those that are doing the same, what training plan are you following?

*************************************************
Also need to improve my water consumption which is rubbish at the moment! hopefully have glowing skin for xmas.

Chopstheduck Tue 26-Nov-13 07:23:14

I am so fed up with seeing the scales going up and down. Was really good last week and I am still 2lbs up!

I've tried proper plans before, and they seem to involve running 4 times a week. I'm better with rest days in between, so I'm planning two 5 mile runs a week, and then increasing the long run, hopefully by a mile each week. So today should be 5, then thurs 10, and 5 on sunday.

I do other things in between - current schedule is body pump mondays, body attack wednesdays and spinning then body pump on fridays, and maybe body combat on Saturday. I find that improving core strength has really helped me with my running. Having said that I am really achey from body pump yesterday for some reason, so I'm not entirely sure whether I am going out today or not. Hopefully later I will be able to motivate myself!

TheFaceofBEauRouge Tue 26-Nov-13 08:26:07

I've come up with my own plan based on loads of others I've seen. Monday is a rest day, Tuesdays is 3 or 4 miles recovery, Wed cross training, Thursday hills or intervals, Fri cross training, Sat rest (but I normally have band rehearsal) and Sunday is long run day. I'm increasing by about a mile each time and then every 4 weeks cutting back a bit to reduce the risk of injury. Really need to sort out some new running shoes!

I agree about core strength, since I've been doing 30 day shred I've got so much faster.

Pinkglow Wed 27-Nov-13 11:36:07

I'm runnign three times a week, doing a spin class and a Core work class for my HM. If I run more than that I burn out quite easily but running 3x a week seems to suit me. One long run, on interval run and then one hilly or hard run.

EauRouge Thu 28-Nov-13 09:19:41

Just started level 2 of the 30 day shred and chuffing nora, it's a bit tougher than level 1. I will stick with it though! I might start doing it three times a week rather than just twice. I'm worried about over-training but then worried about not doing enough hmm

EauRougemasTree Sun 08-Dec-13 13:01:38

Anyone else still going? Halfway through L2 now and ran 7 miles today.

Chopstheduck Wed 11-Dec-13 18:59:05

I'm still here!

Following pretty much same schedule as I was. Struggling to get the time atm for the longer runs, but still doing all the classes and some runs. Increasing weight for body pump, and working at the higher level in body attack AND my weight is heading in the right direction. smile

Well done for sticking with it!
