100 Miles by Halloween (Run/Walk/Cycle/Hop etc.)

NB: suspect this should rightly be in a fitness topic but wanted folk to see it - happy to ask MNHQ to change it if need be.

Would anyone like to join me in a fitness challenge to do 100 miles by Halloween, of your chosen sport?

I have just started running and want a challenge that's doable but challenging for me. I can currently do 2 miles on a good day, but to do 100 miles would need to sustain this (and improve) over the next 10 weeks.

So I wondered if there was anyone out there who is improving their fitness and starting out cycling or jogging or hiking (or even swimming!) and wants to hang out here?

I'm guessing this is more appealing for novices like me but heck, anyone's welcome.

I'm not using a pedometer because they're not too accurate for runners apparently, but using websites that enable you to track your route and work out distance travelled. I'll find some links if anyone's interested.

If so: my name is RunFatGirlFun, I'm overweight and unfit and getting old, and today I ran 1.5 miles, and I have 98.5 miles to go!

NicholasTeakozy Fri 16-Aug-13 12:18:29

I'm not running, I'll walk. There are a fair few geocaching routes nearby and some of them are just too long (about 8 miles) to do in one go, so I'm splitting them up into chunks. Good luck with the running, I'm off for a walk along the river.

RunFatGirlRun Fri 16-Aug-13 12:53:03

Oh hey Nicolas - I was feeling a bit foolish just then!

Walking sounds great. I'd quite like to use this thread to keep a record of progress so feel free to post your stats when done...

RunFatGirlRun Fri 16-Aug-13 12:53:31

PS what is 'geocache' and is it fun?!

NicholasTeakozy Fri 16-Aug-13 13:35:37

I know I probably won't sell this very well but... Geocaching is a game, a bit like a nerdy treasure hunt. You go online and search for caches nearby, download the coordinates and go and look for it. It can be any size from a tiny capsule to a huge chest and can be placed anywhere. I've found some made from hollowed out logs, a pine cone attached to a tree, a snail stuck to a magnetic strip on a tree, a fake branch in a tree and a hollowed out bolt stuck to a bridge in plain view.

It's a fun way to introduce exercise to kids too. Also, it takes you to places you'd never think of going, even places that are geographically nearby. It's more fun than I make it sound, honest! grin

RunFatGirlRun Fri 16-Aug-13 14:03:12

That sounds fecking brilliant shock !

So a 'cache' can be anything you choose to put there/someone else put there?

I've heard people talk about it but had no idea what it was! I am now going to look and see if there is anything on my run route...

RunFatGirlRun Tue 20-Aug-13 08:36:34

Hi Nicholas - how's it been going?

I logged 2 miles yesterday, taking me to a grand total of 3.5 miles, with 96.5 to go grin

Hoping to do 1.5 this afternoon....

Look in the mirror this morning and am starting to see some real changes so that should see me through the infamous 'wall' (which in my case happens after about ten yards).

NicholasTeakozy Tue 20-Aug-13 09:22:43

I've just recovered from a foot injury so have only really got out properly the last couple of days. On Sunday I walked a couple of miles and yesterday afternoon I did about eight around a local beauty spot. The plan today is to walk a four mile loop of local caches which should be fun.

Good luck with the run!

RunFatGirlRun Tue 20-Aug-13 19:43:16

Eek - hope you're on the mend: I live in dread of twisting my ankle or something, so this frankly insane foray into exercise gets stopped just as it begins! How's it been feeling - did you manage your walk? You're going quite the distance and are likely to hit 100 miles long before Halloween!

I've just done 1.5 miles, so that's 5 in total, 95 to go.

Tried to do 2 miles but don't seem to be able to do it without DH my personal trainer which is a bit paffetic!

grassroots Tue 20-Aug-13 20:23:40

I'm up for it....not much chance of a run before term starts but could definitely kick off start doing a walk every day. Count me in!

RunFatGirlRun Tue 20-Aug-13 20:27:17

Yay, another ... Another...oh, I can't think of a term for people on the threadconfused grin

Pleased to see you grass - and good luck. Have you done much running before?

RunFatGirlRun Tue 20-Aug-13 20:28:34

(although, reading your post again, I see you'll start with walking...in which case going by Nicholas' example you'll do your hundred miles in no time!)

Roobot Tue 20-Aug-13 20:30:45

Ooh! I would love to join! Might be slightly sporadic, as we have just moved house, but want to get back in to running.
How about centurions?

RunFatGirlRun Tue 20-Aug-13 20:34:53

Centurions! You, madam, are a genius. And welcome!!

I reckon sporadic is probably the way it'll be, what with life intruding and whatnot - but so nice to have a target and some companions. Or fellow-soldiers, in this case <salutes>

grassroots Tue 20-Aug-13 21:11:43

Love Centurions!!! HiRFGR - am just getting back into it .....very, very gradually, after not being able to run since DS was born - and he is now 5! Really enjoying it, but only doing gentle jogs on grass at the moment. Paranoid about injuries (am also unfit, overweight and ancient) but so far so good... Have never kept a distance record (far too humiliating!) but will now have to put something on the fridge door so I can keep a tally!

NicholasTeakozy Tue 20-Aug-13 21:36:46

I'm going to make a suggestion: before you start up with running get a pair of Skechers Shape Ups and do power walking in them. They simulate walking in bare feet on soft sand, therefore making walking harder. Walk up lots of hills, it will make your calves burn. When you do a one mile walk it will feel like you've done much more. You soon get used to them and accept they're helping you get fitter.

Just don't do what I did and not read the instructions. You're supposed to break them in gently, walking in them for about 15 or 20 minutes at first. I used them everywhere and got knackered too quickly. They're ok now though, I swear by them.

RunFatGirlRun Tue 20-Aug-13 21:44:40

Wish I'd known that before I started Nicholas. I went from not running for years to doing a mile my first time confused - I think it was sheer, utter, bloody-mindedness - just in a pair of Nike Airs. By about 3 weeks in my Achilles tendons were screaming so I went and got fitted for some amazing Brooks running shoes which are light as air.

It's amazing the difference footwear can make (although I suppose it shouldn't be all that surprising when you think about it)

I just wish it would get easier! I am finding I can go further and further - and I really genuinely do enjoy it, especially the aftermath - but it's just such bloody hard work all the way from the first step to 25 minutes later <sigh> I suppose as I get lighter (hopefully) and my legs get stronger it'll get easier.

Good luck with getting back in the saddle Grass! The way I've worked out distance was to randomly plot a nice route on the river path, which happened to turn out to be half a mile. This means I can run back and forth and keep a pretty good eye on how far I've gone (and do intervals if for some reason I'm not running too well, which is what happened today...)

KD0706 Wed 21-Aug-13 10:18:11

Can I join please? Will just be walking as I'm out of shape (lazy!) and have two pre schoolers.

One mile this morning. 99 to go!

How long is it till Halloween? I will try to work out what I'll need to average per day...

KD0706 Wed 21-Aug-13 10:32:59

71 days. Hmm, hopefully I can do that.
I do have a weeks holiday at the start of October...

RunFatGirlRun Wed 21-Aug-13 11:05:20

Morning KD, and welcome! Heh, good idea to work out how many days...I am slightly wondering if I've over-estimated my ability to do this, but might as well aim high.

And with any luck 5 weeks of walking before your holiday will shape you up a bit by then, and you might even find yourself running - you never know!

I'm aiming for a 40 length swim this morning and a 1.5 mile run this afternoon. This morning I tried on a dress that hasn't fir in 5 years and it went on like a dream, which has spurred me on somewhat!

grumpyoldbat Wed 21-Aug-13 11:50:14

I'm in but will stick to walking my knees can't handle the impact. Is counting getting to Uni cheating? I do mean the bit I walk obviously.

harderthanitlooks Wed 21-Aug-13 11:56:37

Room for a not very little one? This sounds manageable I really need to loose some weight. I can't pretend it was baby weight I was fat before she arrivedgrin

harderthanitlooks Wed 21-Aug-13 11:59:20

I forgot to say I will be walking maybe building up to a slight jog - but only if its dark and no.one is watching!

OddSockMonster Wed 21-Aug-13 12:08:01

I'm in, walking plus maybe the odd mile of swimming (plus running about the tennis court like a fool, does that count?)

Thinking of walking into town and back tomorrow, plus mooching about the shops, which would be a fine 6-7 miles I think.

Can I add in a walk up Scarfell Pike just before you started the thread? I've just got over a foot injury too so it was quite an achievement (and thankfully only knackered my legs, not my foot again).

OscarSwoosh Wed 21-Aug-13 12:15:42

I'm kind of interested in joining in with this...maybe...
OP you said about some links to sites that track your route and work out distance travelled, are you able to post them please?
I'll be walking. Boobs too big for running blush

JamEyelid Wed 21-Aug-13 12:32:01

I'm in. I have my fitbit which records distance walked/ran each day.

NicholasTeakozy Wed 21-Aug-13 14:03:22

Ooh goody, there are a few more of us.

Oscar, there's probably an app if you have a smartphone.

100 miles by halloween is more than doable, I'm aiming for at least 150 per month, which is only about 5 a day.

RunFatGirlRun Wed 21-Aug-13 15:42:53

Yay, look at this: I'm so glad to see everyone!

OK, for Oscar and anyone interested: here is the link to a run/walk/cycle route planner thingy. It's very easy: you just enter the postcode or name of your town, and use the cursor to click each stage of your route. I actually don't think this is the one I was using - I can't seem to find it. But there are loads.

At the moment I'm just counting my runs, and not walking or swimming. But that would mean running 10 miles a week, which given the most I can run in one go at the moment is 2 miles (and then only on a good day!) is quite a big ask. I'll see how I go and might cheat help by counting in my walks as well...though obviously I'd rather not.

As for how to do this: should we all just post our progress as and when we want to? For example, my status today would be:

Today: ran 1.5 miles
Total: 6.5 miles
93.5 miles to go!

We could even do a weekly round-up but I'm probably just getting ridiculously School Prefect about it blush

NicholasTeakozy Wed 21-Aug-13 17:56:27

Today was just over two miles, so the total since Monday is about 11 miles. My legs definitely feel it after the enfoced lay off, which is a good thing.

Making place as at work but definitely up for that. Wantto start swimming again but will walk most of it, health can't hack cycling or running sad

Emski76 Wed 21-Aug-13 18:06:26

Oooh can I join. Ive signed up for a 10k in Oct so def need to clock up some miles. Am just getting back into running again after injuring my shin 2 weeks ago and have been alternating between bike, swimming and running.
Oscar, I use run keeper which you can download onto your phone. It records walking, running, cycling and is brilliant.
I ran 1.5 miles last night, can I count that in my 100 miles?

RunFatGirlRun Wed 21-Aug-13 18:48:30

Welcome, welcome one and all <waves>

Nicholas - good going. Nice when you 'feel it' in the good way, isn't it?

I'm starting to see changes - DH said the other morning that my legs were looking, and I quote, 'more leg-shaped' grin

Walking and swimming is great, Confused - and sorry about your health sad - Everyone I know in healthcare and fitness says that walking and swimming are the best forms of exercise because it's practically impossible to do yourself a mischief, but it still works your body well - good luck with it!

Emski def. count that 1.5! I'm going to investigate that runkeeper app too.

Well - I just had a RUBBISH run and only did a mile shock sad

I find it really odd that on one day I can feel amazing and do really well, then the next only do half that. I'm such a bleeding novice that I just don't really know how our bodies work. Is that normal?? I did do a fairly robust 30 minute swim this morning and my period's starting, so maybe that's it...

I will get DH my personal trainer out with me tomorrow to see if I can do 2 miles and make for it but meanwhile I am VERY disappointed in myself

<sits in corner wearing The Dunce's Trainers>

RunFatGirlRun Wed 21-Aug-13 18:50:15

Oh yeah so I have to amend my stats don't I?

That's today 1 mile
Total 6 miles
94 miles to go

I'm off to sulk.

EauRouge Wed 21-Aug-13 19:40:42

I'll join! I'm a runner but will probably top up the miles with some walks too.

RhondaJean Wed 21-Aug-13 19:45:37

Right a little late but I'm in.

Im trying to motivate myself to get back training after my torn calf muscle and this is perfect.

Can I do it in kilometres though, it works out 161 km?

RhondaJean Wed 21-Aug-13 19:46:05

Oh I'll mix it running cycling and a tiny bit cross training.

OscarSwoosh Wed 21-Aug-13 20:34:33

Thanks for the link OP smile I'll look at that app too emski76 thanks.
I haven't done any miles yet. I might count the walk we did on Monday night to give myself a starting point so I don't feel quite so 'couch potato' blush

PinkyCheesy Wed 21-Aug-13 20:47:14

Can I join please? Another walking geocacher here, and I do love a target. Have lost 26lbs on MFP (see other threads!) since Jan and am very much enjoying my walks.

Today 3.5 miles
96.5 to go!

I use Endomondo to track my miles

OscarSwoosh Wed 21-Aug-13 20:48:50

I just used OP's link and according to that I walked just over a mile on Monday.
Total: 1 mile
99 miles to go!

RunFatGirlRun Wed 21-Aug-13 21:08:56

Do count it in Oliver - no sense starting feeling on the back foot. Or something. Not sure a cricket metaphor is quite right, but...

Welcome all others! Count whatever you like in whatever units you like.

And bleeding well done on the weight loss Pinky - speaking from experience I know how much easier & more enjoyable walking/running must be now.

PinkyCheesy Wed 21-Aug-13 21:16:37

My thighs don't chafe any more (it was wearing holes in my jeans!) grin

wallpaperaddict Wed 21-Aug-13 21:26:51

Would it be ok if I joined in too?! I'm fickle so it'll be a mixture of walking, running and cycling! Today I walked 1 mile, 99 to go!

harderthanitlooks Wed 21-Aug-13 23:05:49

My fit bit says that I have done 4 miles today so 96 miles to go. Goodnight everyone

JamEyelid Wed 21-Aug-13 23:22:50

10.5 miles today. My legs are sore so I'm off to bed to rest them, night!

EauRouge Thu 22-Aug-13 10:08:26

5k this morning, bit slooooow but I did give blood the other day. So, 97 miles to go!

RunFatGirlRun Thu 22-Aug-13 11:21:43

Mighty well dones all round, Centurions! And welcome, Wallpaper1

Jam I am intimidated impressed.

I am hoping to do a 2 mile run this evening but for some reason am dropping with exhaustion today, so might have to see how it goes...

Whogivesashit Thu 22-Aug-13 11:30:18

Hi. I'm in. Running 2-3 miles, Mon, Weds, and Fri cycling 6 miles Tues,Weds, Thurs. Have been running for almost two years now. So aiming to run and cycle alternately each week day.

Ohh, ohh, can I join in?
(jumps up and down with excitement)
(stops when house shakes)

I use the Nike running app (it doesn't mind that I walk) - it's free and maps your route using GPS as well as using your phone as a pedometer.
Mind you, having Paula Radcliffe congratulating me on my great run, when I've strolled 2 miles, is a bit funny!

I've 126 miles on it (over about 4 months - not very intensive exercise) so I'll try to add another 100 by Halloween (my birthday is the 30th so hopefully I'll have lost a few lbs by then too)

RunFatGirlRun Thu 22-Aug-13 11:37:40

Hi Who <waves>

You'll all be at your targets WELL before Halloween.

Notice to anyone unfit and just beginning their fitness regime (ie LIKE ME) - do please feel free to join in!

OscarSwoosh Thu 22-Aug-13 11:38:51

I'm in awe of Jam and Whogives - can't imagine myself ever being fit or motivated enough to do that much. V. impressed!

feetheart Thu 22-Aug-13 12:12:31

Can I join in?

I am a bit of a runner and am doing the Great North Run in <<eek>> just over 3 weeks time but training has been sporadic and I know I will need a challenge after the race (once I can feel my legs again smile)

RFGR - I've no idea what happens re good run/bad run, I just know that there is another good run out there waiting for me smile

KD0706 Thu 22-Aug-13 12:22:06

We are going out to a museum this afternoon and inspired by this thread I'm going to walk there and back - a mile each way.

Not much in comparison to some (well, most) of you but better than nothing. smile

elves Thu 22-Aug-13 12:31:52

Can I join? I'm trying to start running again by just getting out and doing it. I'm doing a combination of walking and running. At the moment I'm covering 6km per day (mostly walking) but aiming for more as my running distance increases.

THis is a great idea and hopefully will keep me focused!

RunFatGirlRun Thu 22-Aug-13 13:06:29

Welcome again, one and all! All may join and all shall have prizes grin

Good luck with GNR, Feet - I am to do a half-marathon next year, but I'm still at the 'baby steps' stage, so we shall see...

KD that's a great way to begin. Trust me I'm not doing much compared to most here, but it's about competing against ourselves, IYSWIM (I wouldn't be saying that if I was the fittest here grin

Welcome elves <waves>

JamEyelid Thu 22-Aug-13 13:20:12

Don't be Oscar I am very unfit! I get my miles through walking and I'm only doing that as I have a Fitbit and I really hate to lose grin

KD0706 Thu 22-Aug-13 16:11:22

Hi run
I know it's not a competition but I did used to be quite fit so I think I've already got a bit of a complex!

Museum walks done. Included quite a few hills, and pushing a buggy with 18 month old, and 3.5 year old on buggy board. So I do feel like I've had a work out.

I already had 1 mile from yesterday. 1 mile this morning plus my two I've just done:

4 miles down. 96 to go!

KD0706 Thu 22-Aug-13 16:14:24

AND we have a doctors app tomorrow afternoon which is a mile away. I will walk there, and perhaps home, depending on how grumpy my girls are.

Emski76 Thu 22-Aug-13 17:37:46

Hi all. Its all the small walks etc that seem to add up dont they? Ive joined the gym this morning. As Ive been plagued with injury since i started running again i thought id see if going to the gym will help. Am having my induction tomorrow evening.
Am heading out for a 1.5 mile run when dh finally gets home from work. Will check in later.
P.s. There are some good miles going on here, fellow Centurions. Well done all!!

PinkyCheesy Thu 22-Aug-13 19:48:16

Big day out planned for today. Then it rained hmm so it was cancelled and we sat indoors and drank tea.

0 miles to day
Still 96.5 to go smile

Emski76 Thu 22-Aug-13 20:00:15

1.5 mile run done.
97 miles to go!!

NicholasTeakozy Thu 22-Aug-13 21:55:21

3.1 miles today. So that's 14.1 miles so far this week. After the enforced layoff my poor legs feel it and probably will for a couple of weeks. Part of the pain is the Shape-Ups, they make walking more effort, so hopefully walking in my usual shoes will be easier. I hope. More importantly, I found 6 out of 7 caches today, and tomorrow should see me over the 300 found barrier. The walk I have planned for that is about 3.5 miles. Phew.

JamEyelid Thu 22-Aug-13 23:25:09

6.2 miles today which means I have 83.3 to go.

m0nkeynuts Thu 22-Aug-13 23:43:45

Ooh I'd like to join please! Am desperately unfit but started the Zombies 5K training prog last week and have done 10 miles so far.

MrsYamada Fri 23-Aug-13 00:18:43

Sounds good. Can I join? I'll be cycling, I'm a useless runner. I was doing quite a lot before the hols but not had much chance for a couple of weeks now. I'd like to step it back up again and have a sort of goal smile

NicholasTeakozy Fri 23-Aug-13 05:55:17

Bloody hell OP! Look at all these people you've inspired! I'm willing to bet many more are lurking but inspired to get out there and run/walk/cycle/swim their way to 100 miles. Brilliant. thanks

RunFatGirlRun Fri 23-Aug-13 06:35:16

Thanks Nicholas smile - and thanks for being the first: I was feeling a right twonk on my own for a bit!

Amazing, everyone, and welcome new Centurions!

I'm going to be having a weekend of shameful indulgence as we're away for a friend's wedding, and I won't be able to run (we'll be walking as much as we can, but I'm determined to do this just counting my runs - until now at least, reckon I'll change my mind in about 3 weeks grin

If anyone needs any inspiring: about 2 months ago I decided to really take my health in hand, without going on a diet (they don't work yo) or weighing myself (it makes me crazy). So all I've done is eat well, and swim or run every day. And in 2 months, almost without trying, I'm small enough (no idea how much weight I've lost) for clothes that have been hanging reproachfully on the hanger unworn for years to be fitting jolly nicely thankyou. So every little step and every length of the pool all adds up!

Happy running/swimming/walking/cycling everyone and I'll see you on Tuesday...

feetheart Fri 23-Aug-13 10:23:59

3.9 mile run this morning, 96.1 miles to go smile

wallpaperaddict Fri 23-Aug-13 16:44:59

Two miles walked today, 97 to go!

NicholasTeakozy Fri 23-Aug-13 18:05:34

3.3 miles today, so the total so far is 17.4. Only 82.6 to go. smile

Emski76 Fri 23-Aug-13 19:43:30

Hi all. Gym induction tonight. 1 mile run, 2 mile bike, 1 mile rowing. 4 miles leaving 93 to go!!!

KD0706 Fri 23-Aug-13 21:51:27

Yay! Everybody is doing so well.
And I echo the thanks to run
Without this thread I definitely would have taken the tram this afternoon instead of walking.

1 mile this morning and 2 miles this afternoon. So,

7 miles down, 93 to go

NicholasTeakozy Fri 23-Aug-13 22:13:08

I'm not thanking her KD, I'm congratulating her, she's inspiring loads of people. I was going to do the 100 mile thing, this is a great way to document it and the OP is keeping me honest.

Well done on your mileage today. That is great, you're walking not going by train. This is doable. Just a couple of miles a day is what'll do it.

We can do it, we are now a mutual support network. No criticism, just support and a friendly push forward.

sassytheFIRST Fri 23-Aug-13 22:20:35

Ooh can I join you please? I started running before the summer and gave great intentions for when term starts again but intentions are one thing and reality another...

I'd like to get up to running for an hour on my day off -thurs - and half an hour one day in the weekend. At current pace that will get me to approx 8-9 miles a week, but I really want to get quicker!

I'll be starting tomorrow with a fairly gentle half hour/3 mile jobbie. It's been a while!

Great idea grin

OscarSwoosh Sat 24-Aug-13 02:27:14

Total so far: 4 miles
96 to go.

OP thanks for starting this thread, you have inspired me! I am 4 stone overweight and I can really feel it when I walk. I want to get my weight down and feel better. I can't get out of the house every day so I thought I might (and this will sound so mad-ridiculous!) measure the distance from one end of my home to the other and try to fit in some walks to and fro, to and fro, each day when I have to stay indoors. I know it sounds silly, but this is the only way I could reach the target I think.

Me but I'm supposed to be sleeping so just marking place and I'll come back and read later smile

colafrosties Sat 24-Aug-13 09:36:23

Marking my place to join too. Mine will be mostly walking, back and forth from work. I need something to help me reaching for those car keys in the morning!

PinkyCheesy Sat 24-Aug-13 11:25:10

7 miles hike/walk in the drizzle, finding new geocaches and checking on my own.

89.5 to go grin

EauRouge Sat 24-Aug-13 11:31:17

Missed Parkrun today, so went out around the fields on my normal route. Just managed a rather wheezy 5k (must remember antihistamines next time). So, 94 miles left to go.

sassytheFIRST Sat 24-Aug-13 11:37:54

Just did 2.5 miles on treadmill while d2 was having swimming lesson. Was hard! That's what 4 weeks off does for you..

Will try and come again for longer 1 morning in the week. Prob thurs. in the meantime i will get walking more.

Ok so I've downloaded endomondo. DD1 stared school last week and the school run is a 3.6km round trip, I can do. That twice on a Monday and twice on a Friday. The other days I work so will try to get walking on my lunch.

8 weeks today till my best friends wedding. My dress fits snugly but it's knee length so really want to tone my legs up a bit. Weighed myself last night and I was 15st6lbs shock I'm 5'8" and a size 16. It is my anniversary in 7 weeks and I was 14st3lbs last year when we got married! I wished I'd weighed myself sooner so I could have made a real effort to get down to that weight!!

PinkyCheesy Sat 24-Aug-13 12:45:32

You can do it, DrSeuss!

Have you tried myfitnesspal? Its just a food and exercise diary really, but its great for seeing where those calories go every day. A 2lb a week weight loss is totally realistic, so you could shift that stone before your anniversary smile
Lots of mumsnetters on there too, so we can all friend you if you would like moral support.

KD0706 Sat 24-Aug-13 16:35:16

Hi all. Just the one mile today. But much of that was with baby plus shopping in double buggy and 3.5 year old in sling!!

So I think that's 8 miles down, 92 to go

I'm going to have a google to see if there are any geo caches around me. Sounds like a good way to get myself moving.

I do have it, I just need to make good use of it, I start for a couple of days then stop again!

I was out at the park with dds today from 1pm to 4pm but we walked a lot, I left my phone in the car but I reckon we covered 1.5-2 miles. I'm not counting it as its not accurate but just shows how easy it is!

JamEyelid Sat 24-Aug-13 21:50:47

I only did 4.8 miles yesterday because we went out early to the pub but I did 8.3 today so I have 70.2 miles to go.

PinkyCheesy Sun 25-Aug-13 09:35:35

Cycled 4.5 and walked 2 this morning, in the pouring rain, getting FTF geocaches! It was great actually, and now I'm in a hot bath and looking forward to doing not much else today smile

Total 17 mi
83 to go

Go Centurions, go!

LornMowa Sun 25-Aug-13 10:16:47

Joining a bit late, but I think that this is just the challenge for me.

I started yesterday, walking down to our local canal and then around the local park. I even stopped at one of those outside exercise gym things and worked my upper body only did 3 minutes because I felt a bit silly before looping back to may house.

Did 4 miles
96 to go

Emski76 Sun 25-Aug-13 10:59:44

Morning all. 5 miles at gym. Combo of cycling, running and rowing. 88 miles to go!!

NicholasTeakozy Sun 25-Aug-13 16:37:47

Only 1.8 yesterday, didn't fancy getting drenched, and 4 miles dead today on an FTF hunt (failed by an hour), so, erm, <counts on fingers> 76.8 left to do.

I'm revising my initial target. I'm going to try for 100 miles a month till I get some fitness and condition back in my legs, they feel terrible for having no exercise after breaking a toe.

KD0706 Sun 25-Aug-13 19:20:32

I got the endomodo app on my phone and have used it today.

It's giving me distances in km (not sure if its always that way or if its because the app has worked out I'm in Switzerland).

So, I managed 5k this morning and 2k this afternoon.

According to google that's just over 4 miles so I'll round it down (with a view to rounding up another time).

So I am 11 miles down, 89 to go

I'm excited to be down to 80-something.

JamEyelid Sun 25-Aug-13 22:52:31

8.4 miles done today so 61.8 miles left.

JamEyelid Sun 25-Aug-13 22:59:31

oops 9.4, 60.8 miles left.

PinkyCheesy Mon 26-Aug-13 07:48:35

To change from Km to miles, press the icon on top left of Endomondo screen, go into
Settings - profile - units - US/English

2.9 miles this morning and 5.8 on Friday for the school run. Hopefully another 2.9 this afternoon.

I didn't count my weekend miles. But I'll be pleased with the 11.6 a week for the school run.

EauRouge Mon 26-Aug-13 11:50:43

Another 5k, so 91 miles left for me. Need to pick up the pace a bit and do some longer runs!

FinnTheHuman Mon 26-Aug-13 12:50:14

Late starter but I need to get back into a decent routine now the holidays are almost over.

I am going to count dog walks only, my dog is looking sad and a bit porky after the smallish walks she's had to manage on. And the vet was so pleased she had managed to drop a kilo at her last health check.

Right I am now asking my daughter to hide my ipad for at least two hours so I can get stuff done.

Great challenge I really hope I stick at it...

RunFatGirlRun Mon 26-Aug-13 15:24:18

Hello everyone, hello! Hello new Centurions!

Well, I'm back home from a weekend away at a wonderful wedding. Alas, I overdid it hugely on both the food and drink front, and made myself very, very unwell indeed. I am now In Recovery <sigh> (and in disgrace) and hope to be back running tomorrow.

I have walked around 3 miles today - but I'm really keen to keep to my aim to only count my running miles. It's not a competition so if it means I only manage 60-70 miles by Halloween it doesn't matter one bit: I can change my target to Christmas.

Right, off to read the thread news & see how everyone's getting on!

RunFatGirlRun Mon 26-Aug-13 15:30:25

Oh my goodness, everyone's doing so brilliantly! It's so nice that everyone has their own definition of what's an achievement for them, if you see what I mean. Doing a good long walk when you're pushing a pram and carrying a baby and haven't had time to exercise in years is just as much of an achievement as going for a 3 mile run when the most you can usually do is 2.

By the way I know I sound agonisingly enthusiastic and Pollyannish on this thread and I don't even apologise - if I'd had an enthusiastic PE teacher instead of a bully I might never have ended up obese and unfit, so there.

DrSeuss good luck with your 'dress target'! Running'll be great. It's only taken me about 2 months for things that haven't fit me for about 5 years to re-enter my wardrobe. It's like going shopping without having to spend ££...

Nicholas I like the idea of revising targets to keep ourselves on our toes, pardon the appalling pun. I might have to revise mine but in the opposite direction to yours ahem

JamEyelid you're amazing!

Right. I'm off to rest my poor hurty stomach and get some sleep, and think about what a Wicked Girl I've been, and hope that I can climb back in the saddle tomorrow. I'll be away for a couple of days this week unable to run so I need to make the days that I'm home really count...

KD0706 Mon 26-Aug-13 15:54:36

Thanks pinky I've changed it.
Massive toddler tantrum at mo so back later!!!

DolphinnosePotatoes Mon 26-Aug-13 16:12:32

Ooh, please can I join in?

I am vair unfit at the moment and have put on quite a bit of weight over the last year but I am just in the process of getting back into regular running again. 100 miles in time for Halloween is a great target to keep me motivated.

I have a 2 mile circuit that takes me about 20 mins to complete but I would like to increase the distance as I get fitter. So I am aiming to start with running 2 miles 5 times a week and take it from there smile I will be starting tomorrow so 100 miles to go for me!

PinkyCheesy Mon 26-Aug-13 19:19:15

First day of our holiday near Clacton today and its GORGEOUS weather! Just walked from caravan along seafront nearly to Clacton, where we stopped for fish & chips and beer on the beach.
5 miles, total 22
78 to go YAY!
Hope all the centurions have had a fun Bank Hol grin

KD0706 Mon 26-Aug-13 19:28:36

I did myself a disservice last time. I was actually 12 miles down 88 to go.

Five miles today!! So chuffed.

So 17 miles down 83 to go

feetheart Mon 26-Aug-13 21:24:56

I'm only counting running (though this may change smile)
4.4 mile run on Sunday, 8.3 in total, 91.7 to go.

Need to be running at least three times a week before GNR in less than 3 weeks

NicholasTeakozy Mon 26-Aug-13 21:48:17

I had to revise my target downward because breaking a toe left me largely inactive and any walk over about ten minutes is knackering atm. I'm aiming to increase stamina so I can easily do an hour non stop, which at the speed I walk is just over four miles. When I can do that every day I'll raise my target again, and continue to try to increase stamina till I can do ten miles at a go. That might take a few months.

OP, don't worry about a blow out, we all deserve one sometimes. You've started something good.

Welcome Dolphin, you can do it, we have your back.

Well done KD! Impressive.

Yes feet, you need to think about upping the distance too, just a little. You have three weeks left to prepare, that's long enough, you're already doing nearly 5 miles. You can do it too. We all can.

feetheart Tue 27-Aug-13 10:06:54

Ouch to broken toe Nicholas.
Thanks for concern about distance - I have been increasing the mileage gradually, it just hasn't shown up here yet! I'm up to 6-7 mile runs, just not the 9-10 milers I should be doing. As I only have 3 weeks I am concentrating on speed work, with a few longer runs thrown in, and hoping the distance is in my legs on the day - bloody-mindedness should get me through plus the knowledge that I have run that distance once before (but only once!)

Revision of total I posted yesterday - 8.6 miles (miscalculated route)

4.7 miles this morning
13.3 miles total
86.7 to go

KD0706 Tue 27-Aug-13 12:20:58

Is it a half marathon you're doing feet ?
I did a half marathon about five years ago. Not run at all in four years.

I did manage to run the full twelve point whatever miles about a fortnight before the event. But I agree it's mental attitude which will get you over the line. I almost have up at the twelve mile mark (yes really!!) but luckily a wonderful man who just happened to be running beside me made me run the rest.

Hope the toe recovers quickly nicholas. Ouch.

Inspired by this thread I'm off to walk to a supermarket which I think is about a mile away...

feetheart Tue 27-Aug-13 13:38:48

Yes, KD0706, I'm doing Great North Run on 15th September.

I did Silverstone Half Marathon last year so I know I can get round, just haven't had the best training this time.
I'm pretty sure the other 54,999 other runners, a bumbag full of Jelly Babies and the fact that I'm raising money for Winston's Wish will get me through the tough bits though smile

OscarSwoosh Tue 27-Aug-13 15:29:59

Just popping in to update my total as went for a walk yesterday with my family.

Total so far is 5.74 miles
94.26 to go.

KD0706 Tue 27-Aug-13 18:47:25

A little over three miles this morning and a little under three miles this afternoon. So I'll call that six miles.

I am pleased. But absolutely exhausted. My legs hurt! I guess that must mean I'm doing something right.

23 miles down 77 to go

I'm off to have a bath and then bed as I'm so knackered from my walking!!!

colafrosties Tue 27-Aug-13 19:40:09

Wow, lots of inspiration here from you centurions!
Walked the 2 miles to work and back today.

4 miles down, 96 miles to go

EauRouge Tue 27-Aug-13 22:39:02

Walked a couple of miles with the DDs today (well, they rode in the wagon for part of it). 89 miles to go!

LornMowa Tue 27-Aug-13 22:43:18

I'm on annual leave this week so I have been able to add to my total. I went on a lovely walk with my husband on Sunday evening. (5 miles)

Went on a quick bike ride on Monday (2 miles but I'm not counting bike riding cause I don't really push myself)

Finally prized my 13 year old daughter away from the computer and indulged in a bit of mother daughter bonding on a 4 mile walk which included a trip to buy cheese in ASDA followed by a stroll by our local river.

87 miles to go

Emski76 Wed 28-Aug-13 06:30:23

2.5 miles on gym. 85.5 miles to go!!

RunFatGirlRun Wed 28-Aug-13 07:51:52

Hi everyone - just swinging by to say that I've not abandoned my target but I won't be around for a bit. I'm travelling around a little partly because my dear Granny is gravely ill so we are getting to see her, and partly because I then have to be away from home for meetings etc. I'm keeping up swimming but finding it hard to fit running in - hopefully by this weekend things will have settled down a bit and I can tick off those miles.

Good luck Centurions and welcome new ones!

NicholasTeakozy Wed 28-Aug-13 08:04:08

Hope your gran's ok OP. I did 1.9 miles on Monday and 2.3 miles yesterday, leaving 72.6 to do.

KD0706 Wed 28-Aug-13 17:10:46

Thinking of you run and hope your gran gets well soon.

I didn't do much today and didn't switch my app on so I have no idea how little I covered. Ah well, I might try to go out this evening and do a mile... Depends if it starts raining again.

KD0706 Wed 28-Aug-13 20:28:25

Did my one mile. With 18 month old in sling. Little monkey wouldn't go to sleep tonight.

She fell asleep in the sling and then blinking endomodo app thing announces loudly "one mile in xyz minutes". Bloody thing.

Anyway, that's me with 76 miles to go

colafrosties Wed 28-Aug-13 20:40:30

4 miles down
4 miles today
92 miles to go

feetheart Thu 29-Aug-13 08:48:28

7 miles this morning
20.3 in total
79.7 to go

EauRouge Thu 29-Aug-13 10:36:09

6 and a bit K this morning, some of it walking because I got an awful stitch. I ran as stress relief, but I'm so stressed my shoulders are up by my ears which doesn't make for comfortable running. Might have to try wine instead grin

Anyway, 85 miles to go.

This is fab, thanks for starting the thread RunFatGirlRun.

NicholasTeakozy Thu 29-Aug-13 10:42:54

Blimey feet, that's brilliant. I did 3.1 miles yesterday picking up 8 out of 9 caches, so I have 69.5 to go.

Whogivesashit Thu 29-Aug-13 11:02:33

2 miles this morning.

JamEyelid Thu 29-Aug-13 16:22:11

Not updated in a few days. Hope your gran gets well soon Run

8.4 on the 26th, 3.9 on the 27th and 6.6 yesterday.

60.8 - 18.9 = 41.9 miles to go

KD0706 Thu 29-Aug-13 16:52:30

You're really getting there feet I bet you'll smash your run.

Well done to everybody. I think this thread is being really inspiring to lots of us - I will stop being so soppy now though!!

I'm back on form today. Four miles this morning and 2.5 this afternoon.

I also weighed myself last night and I've lost weight (have been trying - ish for a while) so I'm feeling even more determined.

KD0706 Thu 29-Aug-13 16:53:09

So my total (for myself!) is 69.5 to go

Emski76 Fri 30-Aug-13 06:14:14

Run, hope urok.
Wow some of you are smashing your way to 100 miles!!
Did 3 miles running and 1 mile rowing last night. So 81.5 miles to go!!

Emski76 Sat 31-Aug-13 09:03:41

Where is everyone?
Ran 2.5 miles this morning. 79 to go!!

EauRouge Sat 31-Aug-13 10:22:49

Another 5k, 82 miles to go.

feetheart Sat 31-Aug-13 22:48:01

Well done on miles and weight loss KD0706, it does wonders for the motivation doesn't it?

4.7 miles this morning
25 miles in total

PinkyCheesy Sun 01-Sep-13 10:55:58

A few miles here and there this week on our hols

KD0706 Sun 01-Sep-13 13:48:59

5.5 miles Friday
2.5 miles yesterday
2.5 miles today.

I am hoping to keep my weekday totals up, but accepting that the weekends won't be as high for me. Mainly because a lot of my miles are drop off and pick up at various activities for my DC.

So my running total is

41 miles down, 59 to go

LornMowa Sun 01-Sep-13 18:25:16

Thursday 1.5 miles
Friday 2 miles along the beach at Eastborne
Sunday 4 miles

NicholasTeakozy Mon 02-Sep-13 21:32:09

Friday: 2.0
Sat: 3.4
Sun: 5.7
Mon: 2.3

Total: 13.4, so 56.1 miles to go. My legs are aching from yesterday, the hills were well harsh.

JamEyelid Mon 02-Sep-13 22:19:36

29th - 6.8
30th (dp's bday) - 2.3
31st (hungover!) - 2.7
1st - 10.4
Today - 1.7

40.9 - 23.09 = 17.81

Hoping for another 10 mile day tomorrow.

RunFatGirlRun Tue 03-Sep-13 10:20:43

Good morning! I'm sorry for my long absence - and thanks for your good wishes.

My gran is very ill, and I doubt will last another week: it's been very sad and I might be having to dash down to see her/the family again. In a way we are hoping for a swift release - she is 94, and so we all knew the time would come soon.

ANYWAY after all my to-ing and fro-ing I went for my first run in 2 weeks blush (DISCLAIMER I have been doing lots of walking and swimming) this morning and did 2 miles! Am really REALLY chuffed and rather surprised. DH came with me and confirmed my suspicion that that was the easiest run I've ever done in terms of being able to talk, not getting too knackered too early etc. How that can be the case when I'm so out of practice I've no idea but hurrah anyway.

SO my stats are a bit pathetic but:

2 Today
Total 8 miles
92 to go

I will be vair surprised if I make it by Halloween but never mind, it's keeping me on my toes!

RunFatGirlRun Tue 03-Sep-13 10:28:26

BTW if anyone reading thinks I'm really shamefully lazy can I just say: I do walk everywhere and swim 30-40 lengths 4-5 times a week, but I've decided it suits my own fitness target best if I only count my actual runs. I'm not anything like the couch potato it looks from my stats shock blush blush

NicholasTeakozy Tue 03-Sep-13 16:03:40

Don't fret about your stats OP, the fact you were able to hold a conversation while running shows that your fitness levels are increasing, probably due to the swimming. My own levels are still low, but are improving slowly, so I'm not particularly concerned as long the improvement continues. I actually walked to and from the supermarket today, a journey of approx 1.2 miles each way, and I think I shall carry that on unless I have to put petrol in the car.

I hope your Gran is at least comfortable as she reaches the end. Hugs to you and your family. thanks

colafrosties Tue 03-Sep-13 19:59:57

4 more miles down, making total of 12 miles, so 88 miles to go....

EauRouge Wed 04-Sep-13 19:10:29

Another 5k (I really need to start increasing distances), so 79 miles to go

Emski76 Wed 04-Sep-13 20:30:42

Hi all. 3.5 mile run last night. 75.5 miles to go

PinkyCheesy Wed 04-Sep-13 20:47:51

7 miles today

64.8 to go

NicholasTeakozy Thu 05-Sep-13 15:36:34

Right, last few days:-

Tuesday 3.5
Weds. 3.0
Thurs. 4.1

44.5 left to go.

Enjoy you run on Sunday feet.

KD0706 Thu 05-Sep-13 21:14:09

I've not been paying attention to miles these past few days as I have had some stuff going on (very technical term there!).

I did 5.5 miles today. I am thinking that actually since I am counting all my walking (I know lots of you are only counting certain exercise etc) that I might aim for 100 miles a month. Quite ambitious perhaps but we shall see.
Hope it's OK if I still hang out here.

My running total would be 46.5 down and 53.5 to go.

But I will start a new September tally and be 5.5 miles down and 94.5 to go.

PinkyCheesy Fri 06-Sep-13 13:07:58

8mi cycled today, thankfully got home 30 seconds before the rain started! fanjo is rather sore today!

Only 52 to go smile

colafrosties Fri 06-Sep-13 21:29:15

4 more miles down, making total of 16 miles, so 84 miles to go....

ScottishInSwitzerland Fri 06-Sep-13 21:45:28

I'm KD under a name change.

I'd forgotten about the 2.5 miles from Sunday.

Plus five miles today.

Makes me 13 down, 87 to go.

feetheart Sun 08-Sep-13 08:34:28

3.2 miles yesterday
38.4 in total
61.6 to go

Roobot Sun 08-Sep-13 08:36:33

Right. Have unpacked most of the house now... have found my trainers and sports bra and joined the local gym. Off to do my first cohple of miles tonight. Got a bit of catching up yo do, but shd be do-able i think...

sassytheFIRST Sun 08-Sep-13 08:38:06

Just got under 90mi at last. Am only counting miles run or built in extra to my normal walking so it's slow - might not make 100 by Halloween but will keep trying.

Roobot Sun 08-Sep-13 08:39:04

We had moved internationally, btw... am not some slattern who had to take the house apart to find her gym kit grin.
If we were counting boxed unpacked, i would be there already!!

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 08-Sep-13 15:45:56

1 mile yesterday, 4 miles today.

18 miles down, 82 to go.

colafrosties Mon 09-Sep-13 19:12:02

1 more mile down, making total of 13miles, so 87 miles to go....

ScottishInSwitzerland Mon 09-Sep-13 21:54:06

I did five miles this morning and had grand plans of making the most of the dry weather this afternoon. But I ended up being lazy instead!

So 23 down, 77 to go

PinkyCheesy Tue 10-Sep-13 06:50:06

After a lazy greedy weekend, I biked 3.5mi on Monday morning and walked 2.5 in the afternoon. And feel better for it grin

54mi done, 46 to go!

kelda Tue 10-Sep-13 06:53:59

I started this 2 september. For some reason I thought it was 100 miles in september! So I have been walking like crazy this past week. I don't run, or hop or skip, so I am only counting walking.

As of yesterday, 32.7miles/100 miles.

Can I ask, how are you all measuring the distance? I plot my route on google maps.

kelda Tue 10-Sep-13 06:56:36

oh I'm taking up rollar blading too but I'm not going to count thatsmile

feetheart Tue 10-Sep-13 12:11:41

A 3.7 mile run today - and it felt like Autumn at 6am
42.1 in total
57.9 to go

ScottishInSwitzerland Tue 10-Sep-13 20:46:47

kelda I have an iPhone app called endomodo which runs o GPS and tells me how far I've walked. I think there are also sites online where you can plot your route and it tells you how long you've travelled.

I really like the app. The only thing is remembering to switch it on (or off if I get on public transport!). And it does eat my iPhone battery.

ScottishInSwitzerland Tue 10-Sep-13 20:47:45

I managed 7.5 miles today (v proud of myself!).

So I'm 30.5 down and 69.5 miles to go.

kelda Wed 11-Sep-13 07:03:29

Thanks Scottish. I don't have an iPhone. Google maps is good.

I managed 3.8miles yesterday. I'm not doing any extra walking - just the normal walking I would usually do - school, shops, library, work.

kelda Wed 11-Sep-13 07:05:54

And like you Scottish, I am aiming for 100miles this month!

I have to admit though, I have a cold which is turning into a cough and I feel exhausted. I just want to catch the bus.

NicholasTeakozy Wed 11-Sep-13 20:33:00

I have a Garmin Etrex which records distance travelled. I reset the trip every day and record what I've walked. Since the last time I logged on (pc problem-it's fixed now, thank fuck) I've walked 34.7 miles, including an unbroken 1 and 3/4 hour walk for 6.2 miles, so I have 9.8 to go for the hundred. I still get tired on hills, so I'm working on that.

feetheart Thu 12-Sep-13 09:27:17

3.2 mile run this morning - last run here before Great North Run on Sunday (in the pouring rain and howling wind if the forecast is to be believed - eek!)
45.3 in total
54.7 to go

kelda Thu 12-Sep-13 12:03:34

Feetheart - good luck on sunday!

ScottishInSwitzerland Thu 12-Sep-13 20:53:20

Hope it goes well on Sunday feetheart

ScottishInSwitzerland Thu 12-Sep-13 20:56:21

I did 5 miles yesterday and 3.5 today.

Our weather is turning and I know it will be a harder job to make myself walk when it's cold and rainy. Our public transport system is so great that its really tempting to just hop on a tram.

So, my running total is 39 miles down, 61 to go.

kelda Fri 13-Sep-13 06:53:47

I know how you feel Scottish. My dh offered me a lift one evening this week but I insisted on walking, and got drenched in the rain, despite my raincoat.

Although it is almost always just as fast to walk then to take the bus in my town.

RunFatGirlRun Fri 13-Sep-13 08:44:57

Morning everyone!

Apologies again for my long absence <sigh> - I don't think I appreciated how easy it is to let things slide!

My lovely Gran passed away last week and I was then away in rainy Wales for a few days, so I feel as if I've had hardly any chance to do any exercise sad BUT I know that if I really wanted to, I would.

Got back in the saddle (well, my running shoes) yesterday and did 2 miles, taking me to a paffetic 10 miles down and 90 to go.

I was HORRIFIED my hard yesterday's run was but am assured by DH that my fitness will recover quickly and I'm not quite back to square one!

I'll be travelling around for family/the funeral next week but need to make sure I don't keep making excuses for myself.

kelda Fri 13-Sep-13 09:30:20

RunFatGirlRun sad Sorry to hear about your Gran.

Well done for persevering and going for a run yesterday.

ScottishInSwitzerland Fri 13-Sep-13 18:19:23

So sorry to hear about your gran run

I am certain that your fitness will return don't worry about that. Do you think the running might help you a bit? I used to like to go for a run when things were getting on top if me or I had something to think through...

Well, I did 5 miles today.
I am 44 miles down and 56 to go

RunFatGirlRun Sat 14-Sep-13 17:09:49

Thanks for being so nice thanks

Scottish I'm sure you're right. I was feeling a bit gloomy today but have been for a run and feel much brighter.

Feeling the colder air a bit today in my breathing (asthmatic) which slowed me a bit, but DH was with me helpfully pointing out that Seb Coe is asthmatic and the fitter I am the less likely I am to succumb to a chest infection this winter!

Only did 1.5 miles but with DH pace-setting which is great as I really pelted home the last 0.5 miles <wheeze>

So that's me into the 80s at loong last grin

11.5 miles down, 88.5 to go.

kelda Sat 14-Sep-13 17:14:44

RunFatGirlRun well done smile

sassytheFIRST Sat 14-Sep-13 18:00:53

Have done a further 7 miles this week and still hoping to do 2 more tomorrow.

Thurs - ran 3
Today -power walked 4
Tomorrow (hopefully) - run 3

Adding that to the 10 miles done already gives me a total of 20 miles covered altogether. 80 to go...

ScottishInSwitzerland Sat 14-Sep-13 23:02:59

Another 4.5 miles today. 48.5 down 51.5 to go.

I keep thinking I must get out and do a run but keep finding excuses. Mainly childcare, dark evenings and rain!

PinkyCheesy Sun 15-Sep-13 01:38:00

Many sympathies for your loss, Run hmm I am impressed by your dedication to exercise though!

I did a 10 mile geocaching walk today (with 4 kids aged 5-11!), so i feel virtuous but my knees feel like I am about 106. Think I might be having a lie in on Sunday...

68mi done
32 to go grin

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 09:29:27

Thank you Pinky. Hope your knees are mending - one of the reasons I started running was that my knee kept inexplicably giving way, and instead of seeing the GP as my poor DH kept insisting I decided I'd see if I could run it better hmm - I'm sure that's a potentially dangerous route but it seems to have worked!

WELL NOW! Just had a run - the sun was shining, the cathedral bells were ringing, there were swans on the river and fellow joggers bidding good morning, and I thought, come on, Fatso, let's see what you're really made of - and I ONLY BLOOD RAN 5K!!!!!!!!!!!!! grin grin grin

I am EXTREMELY pleased with myself (if you could see the size of me you'd understand) and demand a medal grin

So that's 3 miles today
14.5 miles total
85.5 to go

Hmph, need to keep up this 5k business if I'm to make target.

Happy running/walking/geocaching/hopping everyone! And if you'll excuse me I am now going to spend the day lying down with the cat and reading the Booker shortlist.

kelda Sun 15-Sep-13 17:51:21

I've just added up my weekly total, and it's 27.2 miles, which is exactly the same as last week! Even though I've walked to different places. I'm quite happy with that.

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 15-Sep-13 20:04:34

Well done run that sounds fab. I'm pleased you had such a good run to hopefully inspire you onwards.

I managed 5 miles today which I was really pleased with as I expected my weekends to be my worst time for miles walked. I've not been on a tram all weekend, and whilst I've obviously not been too far from home, I am really pleased with myself.

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 15-Sep-13 20:05:25

I'm past the half way point grin

53.5 down, 46.5 to go. Yay!

kelda Sun 15-Sep-13 20:28:54

Yay! Go Scottish!

I'm jusst passed the half way mark too - 54.4/100 - but rain is predicted all week and to be honest, my legs are tired! So might not make the same progress.

Was it the Great North Run today? How was it if you ran?

kelda Sun 15-Sep-13 20:29:53

and well done RunFatGirlRun. Sounds like a lovely run. I'm so impressed with all you runners.

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 15-Sep-13 21:27:08

I don't have as much time to read as I used to (too much time spent on mn maybe) but I'd be interested to hear your picks of the booker short list, run

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:43:07

Scottish - I read The Testament of Mary today. I don't know how they have the gall to call it a novel - it's barely more than a short story! - but it's very compelling and exquisitely written, although I had a problem with Toibin writing very consciously 'beautiful' prose to be the voice of a probably virtually illiterate country woman! Def. worth a read. I'll do Harvest next - it's supposed to be his best since Being Dead - and I'm really looking forward to The Luminaries.

And thanks for the support on the run everyone! I'm effing shattered this evening and no idea how I'll feel tomorrow, but I'm still v. proud of myself <twirls painfully>

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 15-Sep-13 21:48:10

I passed a display of the booker short lists on Thursday and was attracted to testament of Mary. But was unable to longer as I had the two children with me.

Little more than a short story sounds just my sort of thing at the moment!

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 22:03:19

Oh it'll be just the ticket for you, Scottish! Although a bit upsetting, in the obvious places...

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 15-Sep-13 22:10:36

What, does somebody die??

(Going straight to hell emoticon)

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 22:11:59

grin grin

EauRouge Mon 16-Sep-13 21:53:51

Oh dear, I'm lagging behind a bit after a busy couple of weeks. I've only done another 3 miles so still have 82 miles to go.

On the plus side, we have just adopted a dog so should be racking up the miles from now on.

PinkyCheesy Tue 17-Sep-13 04:22:54

3.5mi on bike today. My legs feel a lot better after several hot baths smile and I am seeing the chiropodist in the morning so my feet should feel like a 21yr old's again gringrin.

Well done on the running Run! I can't imagine running a mile, let alone 3. So do it for me wink

PinkyCheesy Tue 17-Sep-13 04:24:21

71.5 done
28.5 to go

And I am doing the 14wk weight loss thing - a lb a week until Xmas...

PinkyCheesy Tue 17-Sep-13 14:33:14

5mi biked today. Lovely chiropody appointment but cycled home via a notorious local accident blackspot and sure enough there was an accident being cleared up there sad There but for.. etc

NicholasTeakozy Tue 17-Sep-13 17:04:50

Been a bit lazy the last few days (loads going on), and have only managed 11 miles since last Wednesday, so I'm at 101.8. No chance of doing any more till Thursday, but am going to try to do 10-12 miles then doing a series of nearby caches.

ScottishInSwitzerland Tue 17-Sep-13 17:50:27

3.5 miles yesterday and 5 miles today.

So I am 62 miles down and 38 to go.

Still no running though! I have a possible slot on a Monday morning where I drop eldest at preschool and them could technically take my city jogger buggy (which I'm assuming due to its name is suitable for jogging) and have a run around the park with youngest in buggy. It was raining yesterday though so I chickened out.

kelda Wed 18-Sep-13 09:46:54

I am two/thirds of the way - 66.6 miles down!

ScottishInSwitzerland Wed 18-Sep-13 11:17:57

Well done kelda.

I'm having a lazy day today but I might try to do some miles this afternoon so you're not too far ahead of me smile

ScottishInSwitzerland Wed 18-Sep-13 20:06:46

Four miles today. So 66 in total. Kelda I'm on your heels grin

kelda Thu 19-Sep-13 08:18:47

grinI've just reached the 70 mark - don't hate me!

To be honest, I didn't realise I walked so far. I haven't actually done much extra walking this month then I usually do.

whatkungfuthat Thu 19-Sep-13 08:25:49

I'm in too. I will be doing some of mine on the wii board,I believe 4000 steps are 2 miles which I can do in 30 mins in front of corrie. It logs what you do so I can keep a record. I will put an app on my phone too.

kelda Thu 19-Sep-13 08:38:02

whatkungfuthat -welcome! Love the idea of exercising in front of the TV.

whatkungfuthat Thu 19-Sep-13 10:11:58

Thanks kelda, when I was really 'on it' I could do 10 miles a day on the wii. It's weatherproof and you can do it in your knickers grin

kelda Thu 19-Sep-13 11:07:49

As long as you have the curtains closed!

PinkyCheesy Thu 19-Sep-13 13:36:57

Welcome WhatKungFu smile

I wish I'd done my exercise in my knickers at home today! I cycled to a nearby park, met some friends and went for a 3.5mi walk (with geocaches). Half way round it started raining. And of course I had to cycle home again. I am drenched!! Now in a hot bath with coffee and cheese + crackers before braving the rain again for the school run. And I notice that there's water running down the wall again - from a flashing on the roof that needs sorting out. Aaargh.

Anyway, 5mi biked and 3.5mi walked
87mi total! Only 13 to go grin grin Cash I go back to bed then and hibernate?

ScottishInSwitzerland Thu 19-Sep-13 17:18:06

Wow well done pinky
And welcome kungfu

I did 4.5 miles today so 70.5 in total. I am always a day behind kelda smile
I need to go out and do a five mile run (in my dreams!) in addition to my walking to try to catch up!

ScottishInSwitzerland Fri 20-Sep-13 16:23:46

7.5 today so that's 80 in total.
I think I'm looking good for 100 in September.
October may be a different story as I'm on holiday for a week in the middle.

ScottishInSwitzerland Fri 20-Sep-13 16:25:02

Actually my maths is rubbish. 70.5 + 7.5 is 78, not 80!

kelda Fri 20-Sep-13 16:31:41

Scottish I'll have given up by october! You have definitly overtaken me.

feetheart Sun 22-Sep-13 09:51:01

Finally back on after Great North Run a week ago (can't believe that this time last week I was wandering around at the start and was SO nervous smile)
Run was amazing - fantastic support along the route despite the cold, windy, damp weather, yelling 'Oggy, Oggy, Oggy' through all the tunnels, hail over the Tyne Bridge shock, 56,000 other runners often with heart-wrenching reasons for running, the Red Arrows flying over just as I turned onto the seafront at South Shields and I took 2 mins off my previous time. Even getting SOAKED after finish and the 90 min wait for the Metro couldn't take the shine off a fabulous day. Desperate to sign up for next year smile

Haven't run since but did an Aquafit class on Friday and have a gym induction tomorrow. DH is away until Tuesday night so no early morning runs until at least mid-week.

Stats now look like:
13.1 miles smile
58.4 in total
41.6 to go

kelda Sun 22-Sep-13 10:40:59

Well done feetheart!

EauRouge Sun 22-Sep-13 13:22:53

No time for running (or eating!) this week due to new dog, but have managed to rack up 6 miles in walking. I've given myself extra brownie points for doing it all with large toddler DD2 in the back carrier. So now I have 76 miles to go. I might not make it before Halloween but I like keeping count anyway grin

ScottishInSwitzerland Sun 22-Sep-13 17:41:09

Well done feetheart.
And congratulations on the dog EauRouge is it a puppy?

I did 4.5 miles yesterday and 6.5 today so I'm racing along.

I think that's 89 miles done. Although my maths seems to let me down even on simple sums!

whatkungfuthat Sun 22-Sep-13 17:46:06

I've only done 6 so far, it all starts in earnest tomorrow.

kelda Sun 22-Sep-13 17:53:59

End of week 3, and I've managed 81.5 miles. I have been consistant every week walking a bit more then 27 miles.

EauRouge Mon 23-Sep-13 06:35:00

The rescue thinks she's about 8-10 months so still not quite fully grown. I expect we'll be doing some longer walks in a couple of months!

kelda Mon 23-Sep-13 16:45:34

Eaurough - you certainly get extra points for carrying a child! Do I get extra points carrying the shopping?

I think these last 15 miles are so are going to be a struggle. Ds is home sick with croup and I can't get out and do what I need to do. And I think I'm going to get sick too soon.

colafrosties Mon 23-Sep-13 21:32:35

3 more miles down, which makes 16, so 84 to go. I'd better get a move on...!

RunFatGirlRun Tue 24-Sep-13 16:33:04

'Ey up Centurions! 6 more miles down (not in one run, sadly grin) which takes me to 79.5 to go.
I better get a move on too, by the looks of things!

I have an announcement to make: MY LEGS HAVE
MUSCLES IN THEM. I saw them move! I swear! Sadly I think I need to lose about 2 stone before they're properly visible through my thigh fat, but hey, it's all progress.

Good luck everyone and sympathies to those whose lives are getting in the way of things.

Oh and CONGRATS to feetheart - utter inspiration. I might ask your advice early next year about training for the GNR. I'd like to run it in memory of my Granny to raise funds for Macmillan, because they helped our family so much towards the end. But it's a long way before I can contemplate doing that - baby steps, quite literally!

ScottishInSwitzerland Tue 24-Sep-13 19:35:48

Hope your Ds is feeling better kelda

Well done on the muscles run

We have had lovely weather which has encouraged me to walk lots. But I am coming down with a cold which I will no doubt use as an excuse to be lazy.

I did 4 miles yesterday and 6.5 today. So I think that's me pretty much reached target. 99.5 miles. I am conscious that none of it is anything other than walking. I really should take some of the motivation I have had to walk and make the effort to start running again.

PinkyCheesy Tue 24-Sep-13 22:40:47

Working away at the weekend and no opportunity for exercise (I was too busy stuffing my face with free food!!) Managed a walk today in the country - lovely and sunny with the trees looking very autumnal and pretty. So glad to live here and not in a concrete city smile
93mi done.... only 7 to go woohooo!!

kelda Wed 25-Sep-13 12:36:35

Well done scottish and Pinky!

Ds is still sick with croup but fortunately dh and I have been able to arrange looking after him, but I haven't gotton much walking done.

RunFatGirlRun Wed 25-Sep-13 12:44:03

Your poor DS, Kelda - hope it clears up really soon. Croup's quite frightening isn't it? (my sister's youngest had it earlier this year and it sounded terrifying)

2 miles run this morning, so that's me with 77.5 to go hmm Get running woman!

colafrosties Wed 25-Sep-13 21:06:40

2 more miles down, which makes 18, 82 left to go.

ScottishInSwitzerland Wed 25-Sep-13 21:08:24

Hope things improve kelda it must be scary as well as tiring.

I had a lazy day but still did 2.5 miles so am officially over target!

kelda Wed 25-Sep-13 22:02:38

Well done colafrosties, you will get there.

I managed 5.4 miles today which I am happy with. I just want to get to 100 so I can stop counting!

colafrosties Thu 26-Sep-13 20:24:59

Thank you kelda! I hope your ds is bearing up, croup sounds rotten sad
Another 2 miles today, so that's 20, with 80 left to go! I may get to 100 by xmas...

Good luck everyone, keep walking, cycling, running, skipping!

kelda Fri 27-Sep-13 19:25:44

Just three days to go to cover four miles!

PinkyCheesy Fri 27-Sep-13 19:40:22

Woo! I'm up to 107mi!! I think I will have done 100 in the month by the end of Sept. Has made a huge difference to cycle to school and back every day, and DS2 has really enjoyed it as well. I am a lot fitter now than I was 6 weeks ago - can get over the railway bridge in 4th gear now (instead of 1st grin). Thanks for the incentive RunGirl!! Think I might go for another 100 in October.

ScottishInSwitzerland Fri 27-Sep-13 19:44:47

Yay kelda you will def manage the last four miles.

I'm similar to you pinky
I've already exceeded the 100 in September and I'm going to try and aim for 100 in October too.
I know it will get harder as the weather deteriorates. But even if I don't make the target it's still good to try!

colafrosties Fri 27-Sep-13 20:51:17

3 miles today, so that's 23 done, 77 left to go. Glass of wine now!

kelda Fri 27-Sep-13 22:15:19

Cola enjoy your wine wish I could join you but It will probably be another sleepless night with ds! I will definitly be celebrating when this 100 miles is done!

I'm not so sure about continuing in october, it's getting a bit of a hassle plotting all routes on google maps smile

The walking itself isn't a hassle!

ScottishInSwitzerland Fri 27-Sep-13 22:20:06

I can see that elf be a hassle kelda
I have the iPhone app that makes it easy for me.

But, if you do the same route many times then you'll already know how long your regular routes are? So it might get easier.

Or you could just stop counting and keep walking.

Hope you get a decent night tonight

kelda Sat 28-Sep-13 15:20:49

I don't always walk exactly the same way.

I took dd1 into town today and judging by my aching legs, I thought we had done at least four miles. But no, only 2.4 according to google maps!

EauRouge Sat 28-Sep-13 17:43:43

Managed to rack up 10k this week with the dog and actually got to go for a run today for the first time in 2 weeks. It was rubbish, obviously grin but that's another 15 miles off the total. Now I have 61 miles to go.

kelda Sat 28-Sep-13 17:54:11

grin I think we should all convert the distances into kilometres!

Well done for running. I can't run at all.

EauRouge Sat 28-Sep-13 20:48:19

grin I do running in km and driving in miles. I didn't run the whole way on my run, I had to stop and walk a couple of times. I've only had the chance to run about 3 times this month so my fitness level has really slipped.

kelda Sun 29-Sep-13 16:05:12

Haven't walked today but roller bladed for an hour this morning. I wonder how far I skated?

kelda Mon 30-Sep-13 12:52:10

Finished! 102.7 miles is my total for the month smile

whatkungfuthat Mon 30-Sep-13 16:14:52

Well done kelda, that was quick! I am doing 5 miles a day at the moment, done 35 so far and will be increasing it next week.

kelda Mon 30-Sep-13 19:09:57

Good luck whatkung!

feetheart Wed 02-Oct-13 06:40:29

Well done everyone, totals are racking up smile

Finally out for my first run yesterday since GNR 2 weeks ago. I knew I would need something to get me out again - this thread and a very stressful letting situation got me going.

RunFatGirl - absolutely, definitely sign up to do GNR next year, I can't rave about it enough. Think I am still on a bit of a high and running again just brought back lots of memories smile

So now:
3.6 miles
62 in total
38 to go

The way the letting/tenant situation is now I could be clocking up a lot more miles - running really clears my head and gives me time to think and plot revenge

EauRouge Wed 02-Oct-13 11:55:05

Another 6 miles in the last couple of days so now 55 miles to go.

RunFatGirlRun Fri 04-Oct-13 11:23:23

Morning all! Some GREAT totals here, I'm so impressed!

Is everyone actually feeling fitter and happier and healthier? Because of course that's the main aim of the thread!

Well, 3 miles to report, taking me to 74.5 go grin Safe to say I shan't be troubling the leaderboard any time soon.

Could I just say though - beware to anyone doing what I did, as I've been quite unwell in the last week with anaemia - faint, dizzy, sick, headachy, vague etc.

I basically went on a vegan crash diet and went from being a couch potato to running 3-4 times a week and swimming long distances almost every day. Now you'd think it'd be obvious that this might bring problems, but muggins here failed to cotton on hmm

I am now taking a big fat dose of iron every morning and making sure I eat eggs and fish, and feeling rather better, although my runs are still much harder work than this time last month. So be warned, chaps! Moderation in all things!

RunFatGirlRun Fri 04-Oct-13 11:34:41

Oh my goshness and CONGRATS to Kelda for finishing thanks - now you need to do another 100 miles my Christmas grin

kelda Fri 04-Oct-13 17:11:55

smile thank you for my lovely flowers!

I'm not exactly feeling fitter because my GP thinks I have sciatica. Fortunately walking is ok, but it's very painful climbing the stairs and even at nighttime. When the doctor asked me how much exercise I did, I told her I walk about 100 miles/ month smile

kelda Fri 04-Oct-13 17:13:22

Sorry forgot to say hope you are feeling better soon RunFatGirlRun!

feetheart Sun 06-Oct-13 07:45:42

RunFatGirl - oh dear. Hope you are now starting to feel much better. Dark chocolate is a good source of iron too smile

kelda - rubbish about sciatica but smile at being able to tell GP how much you exercise, hope she was impressed.
Not quite the same but when I went for a gym induction recently I was able to answer a similar question posed by the puffed up gym instructor with 'I've just done my second half-marathon' Stopped treating me like a geriatric dodderer after that smile

4.4 miles
66.4 in total
33.6 to go

kelda Mon 07-Oct-13 08:41:45

feetheart, hope you enjoy the gym. I don't think I've even been in a gym!

I've just been reading this abouit the benefits of walking:

kelda Mon 07-Oct-13 08:42:07

that's a BBC link.

RunFatGirlRun Mon 07-Oct-13 16:50:14

Oo I'll have a read of that in a sec, Kelda.

Bah, just one mile today - 73.5 to go.

I don't know what's happened to me - I have lost my running mojo sad My swimming mojo is intact, but ... I just can't run confused I don't know who that superstar was who ran 5k just for the hell of it last month, but it sure as hell wasn't me.

I think I've basically lost confidence. I know I'm strong and fit enough to do 2 miles at the absolute least, but just can't. I've started feeling really self-conscious which is ridiculous as I'm so much smaller than when I started. But for instance today I got sarcastically wolf-whistled at by some twat coming out of an office, and then when a gang of French teenagers were blocking a path on the river and I sort of asked them to move over they all kind of smirked and tittered. and every now and then people go, "ooooh, well DONE, you're doing EVER SO WELL", like I'm a 90 year old amputee, not a fucking size 18 33 year old with both legs fully present.

ANYWAY. I just need to get my confidence back then I'll be OK. DH is going to come with me tomorrow and he's good for a boost.

Hope everyone's feeling less epically sorry for themselves than I am grin

kelda Mon 07-Oct-13 19:14:13

RunFatGirlRun sad they are all twats. You are doing brilliantly. It takes guts to get out and run. I can walk fine, but I will find every excuse under the sun not to go out running because it makes me feel self concious.

It's great you are swimming. I took the children swimming today, which meant I didn't actually swim at all hmm

feetheart Tue 08-Oct-13 10:26:34

I agree, twats. You are the one doing the exercise, making yourself healthier, making yourself feel better, they are not.
I haven't had much in the way of negative comments whilst running but then I tend to run early in the morning and in the countryside if I can so not much opportunity. I do get some supportive comments and I will say something encouraging if I walk past someone running, especially if they aren't the lean, mean running type (who scare me a bit)
However I am 5'10" and tend to make eye contact with, and smile at, everyone I encounter - possibly in an attempt to deflect anything negative before they even think about it smile

Out again this morning, possibly the last warm morning run before the cool, crisp autumn mornings start.
3.6 miles
70 in total
30 to go

feetheart Tue 08-Oct-13 10:30:55

kelda - the gym is part of the local council sports complex that includes a fab new 50m swimming pool and more exercise classes than you can throw a stick at. Actually took me ages to join but I realised that I enjoy this running lark so much that I want to get better and I don't want rubbish cold, wet, snowy, icy weather to stop me. Even the thought of running on a treadmill, which I HATE, is better than not running. Tis a bit scary smile

RunFatGirlRun Tue 08-Oct-13 18:46:16

Thanks for being so encouraging, folks. TWATS indeed, and I didn't let it stop me. Went out with DH and did a quite fast 1.5 miles with a sprint at the end <air punch>

DH thinks that part of the problem is that I'm unconsciously running a lot faster without realising, which is why I can't seem to go as far. . . tomorrow I'm going to have a shot at going inchingly slowly and seeing if I can do a good 2 miles again.

So that's me with 72 miles to go grin

Feetheart I know what you mean about being scared of the lean mean sorts: there's this couple I seem to run past very frequently, 55 if they're a day, lean as whippets and brown as nuts, sporting hundreds of pounds worth of running paraphernalia! I'm sure they're lovely but I'm so awestruck by them I keep a wide berth!

RunFatGirlRun Wed 09-Oct-13 10:43:31

Hi everyone - just to say I'm going to ask MNHQ to move this to a fitness topic, because I believe it'll go 'poof' in a bit because it's in chat....

RunFatGirlRun Wed 09-Oct-13 17:12:28

Evening all! 1.5 miles down today - a mere 70.5 to go!

MNHQ have moved this to the Exercise topic, and I'm getting no end of hilarity out of having a thread in here grin

feetheart Mon 14-Oct-13 06:46:02

First proper run on a treadmill as weather was horrible. It was interesting in some ways - I can see me getting competitive with the distance/time display but I much prefer running in the fresh air.

3.5 miles
73.5 in total
26.5 to go

Think I may have to pick up the pace if I am to get to 100 by 31st.

Back to dark roads this morning, much better.

This thread is really pushing me along. I thought 100 miles by Halloween would be reasonably easy to reach but I'm going to have to work to get there.
Anyone fancy a 100 miles by NYE thread next?

Is it just me now then?

Down to below 20 but will have to push to get them in before 31st. If weather is good at the w/e I could be tempted to try a long run.

Billy No-Mates here thlsmile

Out this morning but my knee started to twinge so I cut the run short - serves me right for not keeping up with the physio exercises.

2.7 miles
83.4 in total
16.6 to go

Not even sure I will get to 100 by 31st now but being on here has spurred me on to try rather than sit on my backside feeling smug after the GNR.
Now planning more races and will set my own challenge for Nov/Dec if no-one else wants to join me.

I was wondering how you are all getting on -
well down Feetheart! You're doing great! But you need to get on with the physio exercises.

RunFatGirlRun - how are you getting on?

I've been having physio for my leg - it's not sciatica exactly but it is some sort of spine problem that is causing pain down one side. Wlaking is fine but climbing stairs is very painful.

I'm still roller blading!

Good morning everyone!!! Oh God, I can't believe I haven't been posting. I've been running, just not posting. What a dufus.

So I just wanted to round the thread off (not that we won't all keep running!) by saying firstly massive THANKS to everyone for getting stuck in - I hope we all feel fitter, happier, healthier etc.!

I didn't make my 100 miles target by a long bleeding shot grin BUT - I began my attempt to get healthy and strong in early July, and in 5 months I have gone from running nowhere to running 3 miles and swimming frequently. I have better skin, my incipient IBS has calmed down, and although I don't weigh myself (I get real anxiety problems around that so I avoid it where I can) I would judge I've lost around 1.5 stone, and am able to wear clothes that haven't fit me for 5-6 years. I have never felt so fit and happy and healthy, and I'm so grateful to everyone for their support.

My running journey isn't over - I'm aiming to do a half marathon next year for Macmillan, in memory of my lovely Granny.

I'll be name-changing now as this name was for a specific period and ... well: I don't feel fat anymore!

thanks thanks thanks

Well done RunFAtgirlrun!

You've done brilliantly! I reached 100 miles but there is no way that I can run 3 miles, that's fantasticsmile

Thank you for coming up with this idea, it certainly encouraged me to push myself to achieve something!

And I am still rollerblading smile

<twirls new username>

Thanks Kelda smile and well done you too! I LOVE the idea of rollerblading!

There's been some amazing achievements on this thread. And I just can't believe how different I feel. And it's all a journey etc. etc. and I'm only halfway there - I might pop onto the thread periodically and report on progress towards a half marathon (and shamelessly post a link to the sponsorship page grin)

Hope everyone posts a wee update. I'm terribly proud of us all <soppy>

feetheart Mon 11-Nov-13 12:56:01

I'd like to add my thanks for starting the thread and well done for doing so well that you had the change your name grin

I didn't make it to 100 this time as the knee twinge made me rest. Also missed our badly publicised inaugural local half marathon as I had another commitment - would have been a very different experience to GNR but at least I could have got home easily.
Really need to get back out now but it keeps raining (and although I love a cold run I can't stand cold and wet). However I have promised DS(8) that I will do the local Santa Run 5k with him and a Boxing Day 5k event as well. Just need to find a few longer races to spur me on again.

Enjoy the running/roller blading (delete where appropriate) and thanks again for the initial thread FraggleRock

Good luck with your 5ks Feetheart! You must be very motivated to plan a race for Boxing Day!

feetheart Wed 13-Nov-13 10:27:09

Not really, Boxing Day is a bit of a non-day most years. Its a very local run and does lots of different kids races.
What I really liked was that they don't award prizes 'for running fast' but do award one for the best excuse posted before the event as to why you aren't going to run fast smile
