Are Personal Trainers worth it

I'm considering a personal trainer.

I have been going to the gym for a few years and i don't like it! I feel like i dont push myself and to be honest, i don't really know what i'm doing. I have also tried classes but don't seem to be achieving the results.

Does anyone have or used a personal trainer? Are they worth it?

I am not looking to loose weight but to tone up and get rid of my baby belly!

I've had two; one was a great fit/personality match the other not so.
your mind frame plays a big part.

Yes-I loved mine. She got me lifting weights with good form and pushed me to go further and faster than I'd ever have done on my own. Now I've moved I've hardly even been to the gym. If you can afford it, definitely do it! Xx

Argh! Automatic kisses went on there (just been writing a text). Please ignore.

I used one for a while. We really clicked and I liked the challenge/competitive side (you did that, can you do this?). Also, the best part for me was not having to think about what to do. He told me every single thing, all I had to do was turn up.
I lost weight, gained (some) muscle and toned up as well as improving my fitness loads.
The only reason I stopped going was because I moved house. I should look at starting again. (I have regained the weight and some, lost the muscle etc).
At my old gym they had a display with all the PTs and their specialism (weight loss, body building etc etc) and they all offered a free session to check it was a good match.

In short, yes and you've inspired me to look into one in my new area!

Thank you for all your replies. I am going to look into it now.

Would one, one hour session a week be enough (thats all i can afford!!)

I do once every two weeks as it's more cost effective for me and she gives me a programme for the week in between.
I love mine, gave great nutrition advice, i was at my slimmest and fittest when I saw her but have recently had a baby so starting back with her soon to effectively start again!!

I've had one PT session a week for the last four months and have lost a stone.

If I had more time, I would do another session or fit a cardio fitness class in too as the session I do is mostly weights based, so a mix of cardio and weights would be good. You may find that your PT does classes too, so you could add on a class for a few quid, which will be nowhere near the one to one cost.

I did one hour a week with my PT and then "practiced" once a week. I really am competitive and was determined to be better in my session each week so thought about workout sessions as practices rather than workouts.

thats what I do. its really helped me push on. I had massively plateaued and having someone push me really helps. also things that I am bad at (side planks I'm looking at you) I go away and practice.

I have a PT for weight lifting (not cardio, I can do that on my own). I have three sessions every two weeks (Mon/Fri/Wed), at £20 per session. My goals are to be strong (my weight etc is fine).

There's no way I could do what I do with him on my own. Most obviously, from a safety POV, I need someone there to spot me (I lift heavy free weights). However, most importantly, he's very engaged in my progression, he works me very hard, he makes things fun, he's showed me lots of new exercises. He's an absolute perfectionist and won't let me get away with and shortcuts or bad form.

He's transforming how I look and feel. I have gone from a weedy thing (albeit one who could run miles) to having proper muscles and thighs that can crack a nut (OK, not quite). I've got triceps and abs and all that shizz. It's ace.

I've been with him for maybe 25 sessions (so what's that? 16 weeks or so?) and I'd have tailed off a long time ago if it weren't for him. And to be honest, paying up front for something really motivates you to turn up!

It really works for me, as he pushed me to the right level, and mixes it up each week. We do a mix of core, resistance and high intensity

Choose someone who style suits you - I can;t be doing with the military style ones who think motivation = shouting

And 1 hour a week is enough, I do more cardio work the rest of the week

I use one. She's also my swimming teacher and I do strength and conditioning work with her, mainly to strengthen my back as I sit on my bum all day for work. I have one session a week.

I also swim once a week (more of a coached session than a lesson) and run 2-3 times a week, sometimes cycle as well/instead of a run.
