Fed up with my knackered knees

Last 3 years I've been running with sore knees, which I put down to my age (been running regularly since i was 18 & now 52 - of course your knees are sore. Take painkillers & carry on.)

However after a near collapse due to pain during a training session last summer, I've been seeing a physio once or twice a month & trying to do my exercises & ice knees when I can.

Hard, as I have a f-t desk job & 3 kids to feed as soon as I get in so I can't sit down until late at night to do anything.

YS13 is an athlete so I'm at track 3/4 x a week & I'm so frustrated as I used to run round the area whilst he was on the track.

Any suggestions for how to cope with the mental aspects of not being able to run, walk fast, cycle, swim...

I have just invested in an electric bike which is just fab - still have to pedal but motor assists. I still find myself watching runners & feeling angry at myself.

I don't really have any advice but i feel your pain. I broke my ankle a few years ago and now have a big metal plate and screws in it. I also have arthritis due to it (i'm in my 20's :( ) i now have tendonitis so can't run or do any kind of exercise apart from swimming or yoga, waiting to see someone from biomechanics to get orthotics which should help. I've been on crutches and wheel chairs several times in the last 5 years and i am just angry with my body!! Sorry i can't help, but you are not alone.

Paulat2112 - sounds awful for you at 20. I hope you find some relief from the pain. My Dad is now struggling having had both hips replaced. Whilst he's now pain free, his joints aren't as mobile so he cant get around as much.

I think those who are always fit & healthy are just plain lucky with their bodies.
