Ben Nevis at 4 weeks!

Hi,

I found out I am 4 weeks pregnant today! I have vowed to climb Ben Nevis in a bid to raise money for a charity. I have been campaigning for the last two weeks! The climb is this Saturday!!!

I have not trained and am not particularly fit, my plan was always to take it slow as we are a group of novice walkers anyway.

Would you advise I go ahead and take it extra slow or do you think I will be putting myself at risk of a miscarriage?

Thanks!

I think it's odd that you planned to walk up when you are completely unfit (which is how you make it sound). That's daft thing to do, pregnant or not.

That said, It's not a tough mtn walk, it's all walking, not scrambling. I walked up it at 30 wks & DH was carrying a 20 month old toddler, but I was active b4 & throughout pregnancy.

In pregnancy you just listen to how your body feels. Keep hydrated, don't overheat, if it feels like too much it's too much, etc.

The one thing that could be a problem at 4 weeks is low blood pressure. I am prone to that anyway and in the early stages of pregnancy when your body is trying to increase blood volume rapidly fainting is common. It mostly happened to me at that stage of pregnancy if I had to stand still for any length of time though. Just be very cautious, prepared to stop if you have to and make sure someone else with you is aware. Hopefully it's a bit early for morning sickness.

You're probably early enough not to get the early symptoms which tend to be felt from around 5-6 weeks.

Take it easy and make sure you're well hydrated and fuelled.
