Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

I'd like to join in if I may. Did my 5th park run yesterday, my other 4 were over the last 2 yearsBlush But I want to go regularly and improve my time. My pb is 33 mins, did it in 36.04 yesterday which I was a bit meh about but I did run (obviously v slowly) the whole course. I'm in Ireland, any other Irish park runners on here?

Thanks 5908 this is a great thread - so pleased to have found it. Am looking forward to my first run as a tourist next week - going to do the Forest of Dean. Really excited.

Had to Google DFYB - brilliant. I printed off and laminated covered in celotape two cards, one to leave in my car and one for a pocket bra. I've seen these wristbands with the bsrcode on which is a great idea but want to do them a bit more regularly before I get that.

Only done two, in April when I had just received a new Thule chariot (product tester for MN, it's awesome, well worth the money) so I could take DD with me, and whilst I enjoyed it I was so slow having not run for a few years and my times (37 and 36) were quite a bit slower than my old times. Obviously I should accept that pushing a 2yr old chunk will slow me up, but you know...

I'm still running with her though, and hope to get back in to PR maybe in Sept. I hope to keep following this thread, I tend to really get into running then totally drop off it.
I am a member of Hogwarts Running Club which is a virtual Facebook club and that's great for motivation too. And HP memes. Grin

Hi all :) thank you 59

Dont I do 55 minutes with 1.5 stone of 11mo tied on, although I more often volunteer. I'm not a runner, I just go to cheer on dh and ds1!

Placemarking here. After a rough and tough few weeks I'm getting back into my running again and plan on starting at Richmond Park in the next 4 weeks or so.

I'll be the one clocking in at 55mins or something Wink

Did junior parkrun this morning. Fantastic as always. Had the run director chat afterwards. Have agreed provisionally to do it - will shadow an existing rd in a week or two and if that goes ok I'm in! Quite excited and 2 of my friends have promised to support me on my weeks :)

Hello Not2b, yes I'm up in da north, but have done one of the Dublin runs and plan to do some more.

Report
FiftyNineOhEight · 14/08/2016 19:22

Legend even at 55 minutes you will be faster than everyone who has stayed in bed at 9am each Saturday.

Hooray tiggaa. Our RD said yesterday that she thinks that it is the easiest of all the volunteer roles Smile

No parkrun for me yesterday as I was marshaling at Mudnificent7. Got to run in the final wave of the day with some of the other marshals. I hurt everywhere now but it's a good i-used-my-body hurt so I'm happy. It's been a while since that happened.

A friend pointed out yesterday that last week was in fact my 50th parkrun venue. I'd been using the UK most events list which doesn't count international runs so Copenhagen hadn't shown up. Seems I'm a fully fledged "cow" already! Blush

Elated after yesterday. Need to make sure I don't get carried away and hurt myself again now!

You've done only 1 less than me Melanie, I've done 4 in the same location and only ventured further afield yesterday. The course yesterday was 1 lap which I really liked, my local one has 2 laps which I find a killer

Ooooo swampytigga, just realised a family of our parkrunners came to your parkrun about 4 weeks ago, mum, dad and 9yo boy have 100 t-shirts and daughter has 50 t-shirt. Dad is speedy, around 19mins at ours and others are around 25-26mins. They did Barnstaple the following week and back to us now.

Are any of your parkruns doing anything for the join in I Am Team GB, sports day thing? We're doing a sports day themed fancy dress, one of our rd's is going to run in her try suit, another in her team gb top from London 2012. I'm thinking of some kind of school gym skirt, no ideas otherwise!

We are getting quite a few tourists at the moment :) I always wonder if they are mn'ers!

Report
cinnamongreyhound · 14/08/2016 22:37

We did Barnstaple in February Smile it was very wet! Bideford was just a little too far away.

Report
swampytiggaa · 14/08/2016 23:06

Bideford only started in April/may time. We are a baby parkrun :)

If anyone is coming to Bideford this summer let me know and I will look out for you. We only tend to get about 100 runners max so reasonably easy to spot people!

59 - thank you for the new thread.
We did have some Bedford ones last week (and this week?) and returned the favour by coming up on Sunday to see Tom Jones and reminisce about Bedford parkrun as it was DS's first ever one two years ago

cinnamon - you had two of our runners on Saturday - father and adult daughter and, possibly, a dog :)
I need to get organised for 'I am GB' but I am away this week and have a feeling we will just do the beach party theme we did last year as that was fun

Welcome to the new people on the thread - parkrun rocks :o

Don'tbuy - we have some very fast buggy runners at ours now. At least one has a toddler onboard and she has just got quicker and quicker - was first female finisher a few weeks ago :)
We also had one of our regulars borrowing a baby and buggy this Saturday and saying how hard it was as you can't use your arms - she was shattered.

We had a lovely, quiet, uneventful parkrun this week after last week's shenanigans. DS and his mate did a great job and the results went like a dream
Only the run report to do now and they are meeting up this afternoon to do that.

Evening all Smile. How lovely to see some new faces too.

I think parkruns in summer are split, either massive turnouts with tourists or low numbers as everyone is off touring elsewhere Grin. I got my best position at ours this week, I'll leave you to guess which type ours is. Run 49 though....

Report
cinnamongreyhound · 16/08/2016 22:19

We had 75 last week which is low for us and then 117 this week, we get some tourists as we're close to a centre parcs.

Love Parkrun.
Thanks for the thread.
Place marking as I am waiting for Gynae surgery and can't run at the moment, but hope to be back running soon and will be moving into the 55+ age category .
Yikes.

I did our parkrun course yesterday morning. First 1.5k with my smallest then the rest on my own. Came in at just under 34 minutes which was good!

Looking forward to Saturday now!

I was GOING to go to Stormont for their first birthday ( and show off my cow cowl), but my home event is having a pacers event, and I've had my arm twisted to do the 32 minute pacing. Minnie's paw is a lot better (thank you all those posters who sent their good wishes!), but I don't want to risk running with her so soon.

Report
chutneypig · 19/08/2016 18:41

I hope the surgery comes soon Timetogetup

Have a great time tomorrow swampy

Poor Minnie but sounds very sensible not to risk it. Have you done much pacing?

50th for me tomorrow, in glorious rain by the looks of it, at least DD won't be moaning about it being hot! No DS and no DH as DS still has a nasty cough that won't shift, which is a bit sad.

Report
FiftyNineOhEight · 19/08/2016 20:32

Yay! Congratualtions chutney, hope you have a lovely 50th. That seems to have come round quickly somehow Smile

Melanie enjoy your pacing. i hope Minnie is back to full fitness soon.

TimeToGetUp welcome, and hope your surgery come around soon.

I'm volunteering tomorrow, how about every else ?
