I really want to get fit but I just don't know where to start. I need some hand holding, if I'm honest the thought of how far I need to go it overwhelming me.

I have very low fitness level, crap core muscles, a bad back and very weak arms. I do have strong legs though.

I have tried running which I sort of enjoyed but the burning lungs was off putting! Also tried Pilates but I can't do anything that requires arm strength and felt embarrassed.

Any advice or help would be great :)

Maybe try a different Pilates class. They very hugely. Look for one that has small classss (less than 12). Decent clinical Pilates will sort out your core and back and make you generally strong.

You also need to do some cardiovascular exercise. Have you got a friend who might join you? Is there a fun class you could join (dancing, Zumba etc?) or maybe enquire at your local running club if they have beginner groups.

A personal trainer would obviously give you top notch 'hand holding' but that will cost you. Look on the register of exercise professionals to find one near you.

Good luck! Keep with it!

When you tried running did you try couch to 5k? It starts you slowly, with alternating walking and running, so the lung burning is a bit less! The gradual build up makes it easier to do. Or you could start with brisk walking and progress to running when you got fitter.

Burning lungs is an utter bastard. But. Does improve.

If you can run its amazing. I personally can't I find swimming excellent for EVERYTHING. It will build you up gradually too.

Walking.
Walking and running build it up so your lungs don't burn. Practice your breathing.
You tube videos.
God I wish I could run again.....

Something that
A) you like doing
B) will fit into your lifestyle.

If this doesn't work it'll never work. Agree walking to a podcast or music is a Great start

2 weeks ago I started a beginner weight training video on YouTube. There aren't enough words to describe how overweight (5 stone) and unfit/fucked I am - bad back, dodgy knees, hips that mean I can't get out of bed in the morning.

You need 2 Dumbbells (tins of beans/bottle of water fine if you don't have any)

It's only 15 minutes and you will feel great after - I promise. The endorphins I get from it are fantastic.

My knees already hurt less. And I've doubled the weights I started with to make it harder for me.

Don't know where to begin.
