I had dc3 at the end of January and am pretty pleased with how much weight I've lost, but my flabby untoned upper arms are depressing me! I dont want to wear vest tops let alone a swimming costume. what can I do to firm them up a bit? I don't use a gym so it needs to be something I can do at home...

Shamelessly place marking sorry! I want to know the secret too....
I've also lost quite a lot of weight, I have noticed a gradual reduction (my ds was September so a few months ahead of you) but in certain tops and at certain angles, my arms are so flabby. I do lie on my back and raise the baby, all 28lb of him, above my chest x 10 a few times a day, but you would think carrying a baby all the time would result in beautiful toned arms wouldn't you?

Kettlebells. I went to classes, knackering but after 12 weeks there was a difference. Sure you could do it at home. Press ups too.

Oh, and yoga or Pilates - both help lots.

I know the answer to this but don't know how to describe it!! There's an exercise on the Rosemary Connelly DVDs where she sort of bends her arms behind her. That doesn't help at all does it? Grin

It's really hard! Get some weights and do arm exercises (YouTube) as often as you can. Running is good for upper arms, too.

Are those ShakeWeights any good?

Yes I had hoped they would magically disappear with carrying him around but using the sling a lot doesn’t achieve that. I need to do what you do and lift him up and down a few hundred times a day.

Ooh more replies while I was typing., thanks.

Would tins of beans do instead of kettle bells?

I do yoga when I can get there. So far twice since the birth.

The link posted by WhatsGoingOn confirms that you can use household objects as weights.

I used to do a whole toning-up workout using tins as weights when I was a student!

Same sort of thing WhatsGoingOn but she starts with her arms behind her and then pushes them back straight. But yes, it's the triceps that seem to be the key!!

The best toning for arms (I am a yoga/Pilates fan with a damaged sacroiliac joint so need super effective) is Tracey Anderson arms workout. But while I love her I find her so boring that I always do her every day for a bit then stop. Going to try and mix her up a bit with other Pilates type work outs. YouTube her or buy DVDs on Amazon.

Press ups, triceps dips. Use Fitness Blender for free workout videos you can do at home. Investing in some weights is a good idea - you'll have them forever, I picked up some cheap ones from Argos years ago: a set with 1.5, 3 and 5kg dumbells. I've also got an 8kg kettlebell but don't use it that much at home (but quite a bit with PT who I see fortnightly).
