I have been cycling to work for a few weeks now and am thinking of treat g myself to a new bike.

I am currently using an old Mountain Bike that I have had for about 20 years. I never ever go off road so am looking a bike that is more suited to riding on cycle paths and occasional roads. I need gears as I am a bit unfit and I live in a hilly area.

Any recommendations?? Thanks xx

Are the cycle paths smooth or gravelly? And whats your height and budget?

The cycle to work scheme is great as you don't pay tax on the money and its an interest free loan

I'm on a temporary contract so not eligible for companies cycle to work scheme.

Cycle paths are generally ok, not too gravely but can get a bit muddy.
I am 5'11 (too tall for bike I have just now). And my budget is under £1000

Thanks

I'd go for a cyclocross/adventure/gravel (they are pretty much the same thing, gravel seems the latest thing to call them) bike. The Boardman gets good reviews, and you'll be fine on a mens bike (I'm 5'9 and ride a 56cm frame mens road bike).
