Anyone know about starting running with herniated disc?

I want to try, I've been walking every day and feel like I want to start something more energetic, I'd start gently so was thinking of couch to 5 k.

I've got an appointment to start a back rehab clinic in about two weeks but in the meantime I'm doing recommended stretching and strengthening excercises for my core along with Mackenzie exercises and I wanted to up my cardio.
I'm taking Gabapentin which masks the back spasms and sciatica quite a bit although there is still constant pain.
My physio told me to stick to walking but that was about two months ago and I've had acupuncture since.

I'm just wondering if running could really do any more damage or if it's worth giving it a go?

Anyone tried or am I being ridiculous?
