Swimming / Ear

I have been susceptible to ear infections since I was tiny, and have 2 perforated ear drums. Because of this I have avoided swimming and while I can do enough to keep afloat I've recently started to try properly but my ears still bother me. I have tried earplugs but they fall out and really the thought of not being able to hear really panics me. Have seen people with those headbands but are they any good? Any other tips welcomed Smile

I've just got DD1 a custom made ear plug from the audiology dept at local hospital for similar reasons.

Thank you for your response. Can she hear through it? I get panicky if I can't hear so take plugs out then they get wet and are pretty useless Smile

Hello zombie thread!

I just wanted to add that I recently bought a swim cap that covers my ears. I HATE water in my ears and it has always stopped me swimming. This swim cap works the majority of the time. I've also bought plugs to wear under it, figuring they will help for the odd bit of water that may get in and I hope the swim cap will help hold the plugs in. I just haven't had the chance to try them yet as I only swim when I travel and stay in hotels with pools.

The swim cap is one I bought because I have long, thick hair. The ear covering thing was just a bonus but it has made me love swimming.

I got this one:

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NHBMJRG/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000F6E2JE&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=01781G2PNAAZVEN5G3WS&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

I don't use the nose plug that comes with it - makes me feel like I habe a code. ;)
