Help. I'm currently up to 5k and looking to get to 10k by summer. I have one of those water bottles with the gap in the middle but I find it soooo hard to drink out of whilst running. What do you do? Is it mad to run 5k and not drink anything?

I'm no expert by any means but I am currently doing the same as you, have just gone up to 8k and want to get to 10k soon. I have a friend who is a very experienced runner, she runs ultra marathons and is a qualified coach. Her advice to me was that you don't need water for a 10k run, just make sure you are well hydrated before your run. She says that running with a bottle in your hand affects your body movement and is not good for your running posture. Hope that helps

Personally, I don't carry water unless I'll be out for more than 2 hours or it's very hot. Just aim to be reasonably well hydrated before you go. This means sipping water over a long period, not downing 2 litres just before you head out!

I always take a bottle with me. But I wont leave the house to do less than 5 miles. not worth it for me. Im used to it and I don't feel it interferes with my running.

I don't carry water for a five k distance. In summer and if I'm going to be out longer then I do. I have a great waist belt which I can slip a small bottle into. Its a Workplay running bag.
I can't run whilst holding a bottle. As said up thread it does affect your movement.

I wouldn't take water for a 10k run. I only take water for a long run of 2 hours or so. If you're well hydrated before you go and have a drink when you get back you'll be fine.

Another one who wouldn't take water with me for a 10k run.

I wouldn't, but I would have been drinking sips quite a lot before going out. And going to the toilet twice! I'd also try to go early or late to avoid strong sun.

I have been known to knock on strangers' doors to ask for water when doing longer runs Blush

I wouldn't take water for a 10k run either unless it was very hot. I have a bum bag with a holder for a water bottle; couldn't run with something in my hand! It also gives me somewhere to put phone and keys.

I can't run and drink either, so I take a short walking break.

I run regular 10k runs and wouldn't dream of being burdened with a bottle of water for that distance. I only carry water for long long runs (9 miles and up).

I find being too hot more onerous than lack of water, I run up to 13 miles and dont feel the need to take water.
it's such a pain to carry
if I'm taking a backpack for other items then I'll take a small bottle but I dont like to carry anything around my waist and I dont think I could put up with a handheld
