Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

Please miss, I was last :o

It was a fascinating anecdote about having used a rolling pin to try and imitate the effects of a foam roller and it hurting somewhat.

Well done on the new thread!
actiongirl1978 · 10/02/2015 15:03

Hester, well spotted! You get the prize Wink

Yes I rad your post. I'm thinking that the reason that the rollers are made of foam (malleable, soft to the skin, gives under pressure) as opposed to wood (none of the previously mentioned attributes) is that they don't kill your muscles! Oh well Hester, you live and learn. Hang on for the amazon delivery maybe.... Grin

hello new thread, thanks Actiongirl :)

Hester, you masochist you!Shock

HesterShaw · 10/02/2015 15:21

Erm yes. Sounds well dodgy Blush

ThursdayLast · 10/02/2015 15:30

It's bad enough with an actual foam roller Grin

No time for running today, though I did squeeze in a bit if pilates yesterday evening. I'm going to have to vain and really concentrate on toning as well as running in the build up to the wedding.

That choc Orange brownie I just pulled out the oven isn't going to help

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2015 16:05

Hello new thread, thanks ActionGirl1978!

Boo hiss! My friend has double booked herself and I'm the one who was dropped :( no running for me now until Thursday morning but am going to make parkrun this week so feeling happy! And hopefully a canicross run Sunday :)

familygermsareok · 10/02/2015 16:11

Wow Hester , you are well hard! Grin

Thanks action, it is a great personal achievement for me! I couldn't run 500 yards when I started out 8 years ago. The local races I do are mostly club organised with a small field of 250-300 and I am usually still in the slowest 50% but I am very happy to be able to run that distance at all. Smile

No run for me today.
Prob will be Fri before I get back out again (itching already).

familygermsareok · 10/02/2015 16:25

action I also meant to say I also get GI issues and have had to duck behind hedges on a few occasions Blush. I now take a loperamide tablet before races to keep my bowels behaving. Have thought about it for general runs but I don't want to medicate as a matter of course. Anyone else got experience of this?
I don't get the tummy cramps though, but have never tried to take anything other than water on board during run. Will have to look at that if I do pluck up courage to try full m next year. Will be interested to hear if you find something that works.

emummy · 10/02/2015 16:27

4.2 this morning, a steady run taking in 3 of the town's big hills, so not fast but kept up the pace and didn't walk so all good. A beautiful frosty morning.
697.2
And looked at the Edinburgh marathon page as am running the half and it's only 15 weeks! Am very excited and only slightly worried!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2015 17:37

Several members of my club do Edinburgh half emummy and apparently it's quite flat although I'm not sure how!

5madthings · 10/02/2015 17:41

Place marking :)

No running from me today, rest day. But tomorrow I will run after school and pre school drop off, o have planned a route with a horrid hill and am going to do some hill sprints.. That's the plan anyway!

I am feeling nervous about my 10km race on Sunday, not sure why, I did 8 miles sun, 5 miles Monday, will run tomorrow for 50moms, rest thu,.quick 5km Friday then rest sat for the run on Sunday. It should be fine yes?

emummy · 10/02/2015 17:56

You will definitely be fine 5madthings, I think it's normal to get nervous, even when you know you are well prepared.
cinnamon it does seem wrong that a race in Edinburgh could be flat, it must have taken them ages to find the route! I think it's because it starts in town and heads to the coast. In fact it's downhill at the start too! It's my first half so I chose very carefully!

5madthings · 10/02/2015 18:19

I have only visited Edinburgh a few times, lovely place but can't imagine a flat route!

My half is the Manchester one on 19th April and it is the flattest marathon route in England apparently!

My 10km this weekend is described as 'undulating'.... But it's Norfolk and have looked at it via Google streetview today it looks Ok, more long slow inclines than big hills. I can do long slow inclines.

Mayvis · 10/02/2015 19:36

3.72 to add so 700.92

Had planned to do more. It was warmer out than I had realised and I was overdressed and melting. Then I was contemplating going round the block to add some more distance and got caught behind some people with prams and unable to get past. So I just stopped.

Was my fastest average pace though so not all bad.

Knackerelli · 10/02/2015 20:09

No club run tonight as DH late out of work. And he came home with wine so not going to go out on my own! Fingers crossed can go to club on Thursday as volunteering at parkrun.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2015 20:57

Oooo where is it 5madthings? If you fancy an off road 10k this one is great! I've done it two years in a row and may marshal this year too :)

Neeko · 10/02/2015 21:03

Oh dear. Thought you had gone all quiet before I realised the last thread was full Grin
Off to read thread.
No running from me yet. My back is much better but DH had food poisoning last night Hmm so practically no sleep here. Hoping to get out tomorrow.

5madthings · 10/02/2015 21:19

It's the eastern college valentines 10km on Sunday.

I will have a think about off road, would have to do some more of road running, I run on pavement/rpads 95% of the time.

5madthings · 10/02/2015 21:22

There are 500 runners, apparently, I phoned them up as I was slightly paranoid that it's a 'proper' race but they said they get all, abilities :)

5madthings · 10/02/2015 21:26

Have bookmarked that run cinnamon it does, look good, I like Thetford forest anyway :)

AggressiveBunting · 11/02/2015 01:19

Adding 4 from this morning's crossfit commute to make 704.92

I phoned them up as I was slightly paranoid that it's a 'proper' race but they said they get all, abilities

Ha ha- I had this recently. Entered a 50k that looked like an "all comers" event albeit with quite a tight, but doable cut off. Then when I read the rules and regs it said "The use of pacer runners is strictly forbidden". I was like "Oh shit", emailed the organiser to explain that I seem to have accidentally entered the World Championships in error, but he said they'd just copied the regs over from another race. Phew!!

Anglaise- Yes, the 10 miler was probably a bad idea post race, but I wanted a bit of head space and it seemed a good idea at the time. I took my ipod and I think it messed with my pacing.

Just marking my place on the new thread. I didn't manage to run yesterday, hope to go today at some point. Thank you for starting the new thread action

5madthings · 11/02/2015 08:16

Aghh my plan for running whilst madthing5 was at pre school is scuppered as Madthing4 is off school Poorly. Will have to go this evening when dp is home.

PollyPooic · 11/02/2015 10:48

marking place

no miles (although am logging spin bike and rowing miles for sake of own sanity) but I can do 25 almost painless seated calf raises on injured leg already so am zooming down the rehab pathway at an exhilarating pace!
