Anyone tried the new Davina DVD?

I've got her Fit in 15, and just started the Intense DVD -wondered if anyone tried the 7 minute one? Is it really 7 mins or more like half an hour with a warmup/cool down? Does it/will it work?
I'm fairly fit, slightly dodgy knees and want to tone up overall but particularly tummy area, whilst building up a bit of booty. Would like to lose about 4/5lb but can do that over a few weeks once the Christmas drinks and food have all gone Grin

Anyone used it yet?

7 mins a day? Im sceptical. Sounds like a marketing ploy for the lazy.... Make them feel like they are virtuous putting in 7 mins a day. Not convinced

26 research has shown that short bursts of intensive exercise can have a really beneficial affect on fitness.

The 7 minute DVD is only just out isn't it, so I'm not sure many people would have tried it yet. But it will be interesting to see what it's like.

I saw it today. I wondered if the idea was to choose more than one of the workouts.

Yes, I expect it works on the HIIT principle, but you are prob expected to do more than 1 x 7 min workout. Davina's been retweeting lots of people saying how great it is, I just wondered if any of them were mumsnetters... Wink

What research??

It's not even enough time to warm up properly let alone cool down/stretch!

Could do it as a warm up before a run or something I suppose

I have it. I have most of hers. The warm up is three minutes and the cool down is 7 mins.

There are 10 different workouts. I did three yesterday and three today. Plus warm up and cool down. It doesn't get you puffed (like the intense one does) but it does work muscles.

I like it and can feel the work I did with weights yesterday and imagine I will feel my legs tomorrow.

I will give it a few weeks, but I imagine it is doing more than you would imagine it is doing IYSWIM?

I haven't done the Davina one but I am big fan of the Seven workout app for the iPad which works on the HIIT principles. It is also free!

It's basically a app that works through seven minutes of high intensity exercises - 30secs with 10secs cool down for each, hitting cardio, core and large muscle groups. The more you do, the more routines get unlocked. I've done it every morning for the last 3 months - easy to get into a routine as it is only 7 minutes.

It won't make me into an athlete (that would take a miracle!), but I have noticed great improvement in core and it is keeping the bingo wings at bay. It has also given my cycling and running a bit of power boost. Really recommended if you want to save some cash..

26 if you google you will find lots of research.

It's been talked about for several years, hence people bringing out DVDs using the principles.

I'm not finding proper research, just people's own 'take' on it?

Well it's out there 26. Try googling 'short bursts of exercise benefits'. There are articles which refere to research done.

Here's one from the NHS which takplks about research done in medical research centres in Norway

26 try googling HIIT research - there's a few links there. As Bake says it's been out there for a while.

cant thanks for that. I do love a Davina DVD, she looks like its fun as well as hard work. I really liked her interaction with Mark and Jackie, I will miss that.

boo I will have a look at that app! thanks

I got the DVD today, have only done one 7 min workout today as it was all I could fit in and I can really feel it. My plan is to fit it in before work so the shorter workouts are ideal to fit in then carrying on with my normal exercise the rest of the time

Ooh Sirzy you're going to do this and 'normal exercise'? What's your normal one and why are you doing both lots?

I decided on a change from Davina yesterday and did level 2 of the shred; haven't done it for ages and boy can I feel it today! I'm undecided about this Davina DVD, think I will give the free app that boo mentioned a go first to see if HIIT is for me.

Normal for me is running and weights/kettle bell but needed something else that was easier to fit in.

My legs knew they had done davina yesterday! Done more this morning and can feel it working

I used the 7min one yesterday, the warm up, then 7mins of abs and the cool down. Maybe took 15 mins total.
This morning I did the fit in 15, warm up, core and then cool down.
I'm generally a jillian fan and can't fault any of hers but am getting a little bored so giving davina a go. So far so good and I can certainly feel my abs are there this afternoon after two short workouts!

I've got it and started it last night. Apart from walking I don't do much exercise so this is perfect for me to start off. I did 3x7 last night. You can pick and choose which ones your going to do.

Anyone still doing this. I am thinking of getting it just as a little extra for rainy days.

I really like it, am using it alongside running for strength training etc. I am finding it strangely addictive and very hard to stop at just 1 lot of 7 mins! Not bored with it yet either despite having used it quite a lot.

Roque thanks I do a little walking and jogging most days so might try this for toning the tummy area. I like davina and lost considerable weight on and off over the years with her DVDs

This is the only fitness DVD I've ever done, so I don't have any to compare it too but I like it. I'm fairly active but haven't done any formal exercise routine for about ten years.

On the basis that something is better than nothing, you could just do one seven minute routine (plus warm up), but I'm not sure what results you'd see if you just stuck to one at a time. I tend to do three to five routines depending on the time I have. I was surprised how easily I coped cardio wise, although doing five routines does get my heart rate up! I think the benefits for me are in the toning and strengthening, I'm already seeing results from the abs workouts after just a few weeks!

I also like that I can do different combinations of routines. I think if I did half an hour of the same routine day after day I'd get bored, but with this I can mix it up.
