Exercise

I want to be strong where do I start

I am a complete beginner, I currently do no exercise and am very weak.

I dream of being strong Smile. I could spend upto 20mins a day exercising but don't want to join a gym so need exercises I can do at home.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can start to improve my strength?

Shred is a great starting point. If you get through that you will have a good base of fitness and strength and if you decide you want to focus more on strength after that you could look at getting some free weights (though this could get expensive/space consuming as you progress at home) or a TRX.

Thanks for the replies.

The reviews for The Shred DVD look a bit scary, is it really suitable for beginners?

I did the shred as a beginner: I did some of the modifications and it was manageable. And everything hurt the next day so be prepared for that! I like Shred but I get bored doing the same thing everyday so I'm now a big fan of fitnessblender.com and they have a 4 week beginner's programme which cost about £4 to download (the workout videos are free).

I second fitness blender. You can select from a whole range of free videos and some are strength based.

I find these ones good

they are 12 minute high intensity circuits and include strength and power exercises. If you can get yourself a pair of dumbells you will be able to do most of them with some modifications. I used dumbells instead of a sandbag for example.

Hi Blueshoes, how about searching you tube for things like 'basic home strength training', that should give you some pointers:)

Thanks for all the advice.

I have found a few simple exercises on you tube to start with. I have always been a bit Confused about you tube! I didn't realise it was so easy to find things. Very good for motivation and lots of new things to add as I start to develop.

Now I need to put the I-pad down, stop watching other people exercise and start to do some myself Grin

I've gotten masses of exercise tips from youtube, obviously you have to sort the wheat from the chaff Winkbut just spending a bit of time researching can give a fair amount of insight!
